Rating: Summary: enjoyable Review: When I first read this book I thought it was good, but looking back, I enjoyed it more than I thought. The main character is a rather strange boy that has unique experiences. I don't think the main character is so much a normal teenager as an unstable individual. Overall, I could not identify with the main character, but could appreciate his plight. It's an easy enjoy read.
Rating: Summary: A Moving Tale.. Review: about a boy coming of age. Charlie sees the world more intensely than most. He observes--sometimes to the extent that he forgets to participate. His story unfolds in a year's worth of letters to an anonymous stranger and brings us into Charlie's world. The story will touch you and remind you of what it was like to grow up. The pain, the confusion and the occasional joy!
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: I read this book when I was about 12. I am now 17. It has remained one of the most important influences in my life.
Rating: Summary: Read it in one sitting. Review: It was great book, loved it. Me, not being the most outgoing of sorts, loved the book because it was about the stuff I never did but always wondered if I'd ever do. And Charlie was the most amazing character. I could never tell if he was shy or flamboyant. He cried often, was very sensitive, yet would smoke pot everyday. I wish I knew someone like him, he seemed amazing. Only bad things about the book were the ramblings Charlie would get into. (i.e "What A Wonderful Life" speech....) It was nice, but a little sketchy around the edges.
Rating: Summary: One of the most amazing books i've read Review: When i started the perks of being a wallflower, i was reading it on a recommendation from a friend who loved it. well, my friend was so right. The perks of being a wallflower is not only funny but touching at the same moment. It carefully details a boy's life in his freshman year of high school, being a pariah and not having any friends his own age. Even though i couldn't personally identify with all of his pain and suffering, the exquisite writing on the part of the author made all of that seem real. I'm not a very fast reader unless i really love a book, and i finished this book in less than a week. From the moment i picked it up, i could not put it down. Also, the letter format made it very easy to read and be able to put down and pick up again. For impatient readers who aren't able to stand long chapters and uneventful books, look no further. There is so much happening yet so many profound letters too. I would recommend this for all ages of readers. Being a freshman in high school, i loved it. I didn't have to read it for school, just for fun, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. It is truly one of the best, non-corny coming-of-age novels that there are.
Rating: Summary: yowza!!! Review: I absoulutely loved every minute of reading this book. This is about a boy name Charlie who the reader finds out very early in the story is a bit different than most teenage boys. I don't want to give a lot away but he is a very emotional person and cries a lot sometimes for no apparent reason. Stephen Chbosky is a wonderful author in the sense that his writting style is so different than any other books I have ever read. If you are looking for a great book that is out of the norm, read this book. I loved this book because I am around Charlie's age and it gave me a glimpse at what boys are thinking at this age. It's also got a suprise ending which is always great to have in any book and or movie. One of the best parts of this books is it is open to inerpretation meaning a lot about it is left to the reader's imagination because the author doesn't give details on some things which makes it even more thrilling. If you are looking for a coming of age story but one that is very unique than all the others, read this book and I promise you that you will not be disapointed.
Rating: Summary: One of The Best Books Review: omg that book was the best! I just finished reading it like, 5 minutes ago. I was just amazed by it:D
Rating: Summary: OMG!!! Review: Someone recommended this book to me, and I thought it sounded good so I checked it out. I must tell you, it WAS NOT what I expected at all--it was so much more! I admit that the first few pages I was like "so?" yet they were still pretty interesting to read. As the story progresses, you understand Charlie's personality more, and the book becomes almost impossible to put down (I admit I read it in like 2 days). It's so simply written, yet so meaningful at the same time. The ending is just beautiful... A perfect read for both genders and all ages... Well, maybe not a 5 year old, but you know. YOU MUST READ IT!!!
Rating: Summary: Simply Wonderful Review: I just finished reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower after 2 days of my nose in the book - it's that engaging. What a beautiful first novel. "Charlie" made me laugh, cry, and relate to everything he was going through. Very easy to read and difficult to put down once begun. The stories he tells through his letters are heartwrenching, comical, adroit, touching, sad, and hopeful, with a simple yet overwhelming gratefulness for life, love, friends and family. I highly recommend this book to junior high and high schoolers, especially, and to English teachers for that age group as a book to read and discuss in class. Charlie is such a beautiful, sensitive soul, I wish I knew him as a friend. Ultimately uplifting, read this book and feel infinite.
Rating: Summary: A ride on the rollercoaster of emoitions Review: „The perks of being a wallflower" is the first novel from Stephen Chbosky. The story is about the freshman Charlie, describing his life during his first year at high school. The reader gets to know this through letters, which Charlie writes anonymous to a person with unknown identity, after his friend Michael has committed suicide the year before. You experience his many ups and downs because of different aspects in his life. There is experimenting with drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, exploring sexuality, family tensions and growing up. The seniors Patrick and Sam become Charlie's best friends and integrate him into their circle of friends. There Charlie discovers aspects of homosexual- (...) and heterosexual relationships - (...). At home he has to deal with his family: His mother always worrying about his brother, who is a football-star, and being quite depressed when he again cannot come home; and his sister having problems with boys all time. Over all there stands (...), for which he feels guilty and suffers from attacks quite often. But at last there will be an unexpected ending, especially as far as Aunt Helen is concerned. So, go and read that touching story (funny as well as sad): not only nice for youths!!! The two of us really enjoyed the book, so we hope you do as well! march 2004
