Rating: Summary: My view Review: I did not like this book. It just wasnt my style, but thats just me.It was about a kid named charlie who wrote about his daily life. It tells the life of how high scool really is, abot relationships, and friends. The Author dosent hold back anything. I know of a lot of other people who like i, so if it sounds interesting to you, get it.
Rating: Summary: Not overly enthusiastic Review: I am not a big reader....by any means. So when the book is on something that has to do with adolecents (since I am one) and growing up in the 90's, I automatcially know it'll be right up my alley. I'm normally not picky as long as the dialect is in regular english! But with The Perks... I was not overly impressed. I thought that most parts of the book were well written and I especially liked what Charlie had to say for himself. But i felt like in certain areas the plot got a little too weird for me and it made me resent the main character Charlie. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely liberal, so that aspect of the book didn't bother me. What did bother me is when Charlie wouldn't stick up for himself in situations. You get the sense that as much as the author wants the reader to believe the main character has made some progress in life though it's apparent that he hasn't at all. In the end of the book I wound up realizing that my favorite character wasn't even the Charlie. It was the apple of his eye Sam who kept Charlie in perspective. The final twist in the story was so out of place that I felt like the author threw it in. There were no hints all along and it just didn't seem to fit. It was so out of place that i had to re-read it several times just to make sure what the author was implying. Over all this book had major potenial but fell seriously short.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book, I've read so far Review: When, I saw the cover of the Book, I thought that it was going to be really boring, but when I started reading it, I thought that it was great. It's a book that talks about some of the problems that teenegers in High School have to face. Specially when there are lots of things going on, and a Freshmen student that it's srtugguling to fit into a world, it's a really, interesting book, that it can make you laugh, but at the same time, it can, make you cry. I thought that it was a really wonderful book, and I would recommend everyone else to read it, it is a very Dramatic book, which I'm sure you would all njoy it.
Rating: Summary: What I think... Review: After reading the book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," I thought about a lot of things. Especially about how the book relates to my life as a teenager. I thought about how some of the things Charlie does relate to what I like, and do. I loved how it was so easy for you to relate to the characters in the story. What was great about the book is that the author either remembers his high school experience vividly, or did a lot of research becuase, he writes just like it is. I also loved the different format, and how all of the pages are in letter form. I think that this way made the story that much more interesting. He also showed many good examples of how a "difunctional" family may act. I think that all in all the book was great, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Not quite like anything else Review: I first picked this book up the other day while I was at work. It became one of the few books I've read in one day. You simply have to read it to really understand. Charlie makes you feel like he does, through the good and the bad. All the descriptions are very skeletal, and yet you can picture everything perfectly. A real trip through one Teens soul, In this book Stephan Choboski has gotten high school right for the first time in history.
Rating: Summary: great title, okay story Review: I originally chose to read this book because of the title. I thought that it might be a funny book. But in reality, I read this book and it made me so depressed. I really liked Patrick; he was the only character in the book that I really cared about at all. The ending was surprising but it explained a lot of things about Charlie's personality. Some of the events in the story didn't make sense when you thought about what Charlie's personality was like. I liked Charlie though. He was sweet.
Rating: Summary: The best book ever Review: The Perks of Being a Wallflower was the best book i ever read. I could relate to Charlie like as if I wrote my autobiography in that book. If you want to read something worth reading then read this.
Rating: Summary: Choosing Review: This fascinating epistolary novel is about Charlie (not his real name) and his life, friends, and family, all during his first year at high school. It's about the life of an intelligent, shy guy trying to fit in with his peers, and finding that he really doesn't want to. Charlie is befriended by an older girl (who Charlie has a crush on) and by her gay brother. Through those two close friends Charlie learns more about life in general, and learns ways to live and experience fully. It's a remarkable novel, not only for the poignant intelligence, but also for the way it deals with the issue of being gay: it's just a detail, not a major issue. And it's also amazing how Charlie learns about himself and his own hidden past, and how it's conveyed to the readers. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" reminded me a bit of the movie "Almost Famous", where an intelligent kid takes big steps in growing up.
Rating: Summary: The Perks are Good! Review: If you are or were antisocial in high school, this book's for you. I instantly identified with the character and his friends. And though there are a lot of ups and downs in this wallflower's life, the reader is never left asking why.
Rating: Summary: Could It Get More Real? Review: This is, by far, the most realistic account of coming of age that I have ever seen. Man, it puts even Catcher in the Rye to shame. It's just perfect. Everything, from the characters to the setting to the language just fits the mood and atmosphere of growing up. If you want to read a great, REAL book, this is it!
