Rating: Summary: Wallflower Helps Only Those in High Spirits Review: It was hard to put Wallflower down in my post-breakup state. However what I got out of it was terribly depressing as opposed to the apparently positive and promising lesson I thought that it wanted to convey. Wallflower follows high school freshman Charlie, (who reminds me of Holden in Catcher in the Rye, minus the level of wit and appeal) through school and his experiences with different levels of happiness and abuse. I liked it. I'd read it again, but next time when I'm feeling better! :)
Rating: Summary: A bit of a letdown ... Review: Having attended high school with the author, I am well-aware of his considerable literary talent. At the same time, having attended high school with the author, I know that he does not truly have a handle on what it's like being a wallflower. His protagonist is easily accepted by a prominent clique, and that's not easy. The title does not reflect what the book is about and misleads readers into thinking the book is about not fitting in.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: Get this book for your kid for Christmas. I'm a 13-year-old male. I read this book a couple of months ago, and I really liked it. Most of the reviews on here are good, but I was surprised by a couple of people who found the book offensive, or unrealistic. I admit, Charlie's character was a little unusual, and not as real as Holden Caulfield, but not all together implausible. And as for offensive, there is no way. The truth is, drugs, encounters with the opposite sex, and homosexuals all exist in high school, and sometimes even in middle school, and people need to realize that. If this book offended you need to open your mind. I loved this book, and I would recommend it to anyone I know. (...)
Rating: Summary: unconventionally beautiful Review: (...) once i started it i could not put it down and read the only thing in one night. it is unconventionally beautiful, whatever that means....
Rating: Summary: A Great Story, Simply Told Review: This is one of the best books I have read in recent months! Yes, it is a coming-of-age story--but it is so much more. It is sad, hopeful, and ultimately very satisfying.I thought I was so "cutting-edge" to be reading this, only to find over 100 reviewers have already written about it! I adored Charlie, the narrator of the story--he is so good, kind, loving, and loyal. He relates his thoughts and feeling so beautifully in letters to an unknown person. I feel that he is a fairly typical teenager, full of doubts and worries, but compounded, in his case, by depression brought on by his (falsely) blaming himself for the death of a beloved aunt. The book is so realistic and down-to-earth -- Chobsky manages to portray all of the insecurities of these early teen years without ever resorting to angst. We follow Charlie's first year of high school, with all its tribulations, lovingly rendered by this gifted author. We see the influence one caring teacher can have on a student. We hear about Charlie's depression in his own words and take an emotional journey through his life. Chobsky beautifully handles many touchy subjects that teens must deal with: suicide, pregnancy, depression, drugs, drinking, and romance. I would recommend this book to mature teens and to the parents of any teen.

Rating: Summary: Critic of a critic Review: Dear Reader, who does not think that this book is it's 5 stars worth, and who is amused by Charlys histerial fits... I do not think you were able to understand the tragecy of this book. Read it another time, and you'll see, it'll touch you!
Rating: Summary: A very interesting book Review: This book was very good. It has a lot of real life issues in it. It is definently for older readers, but i suspose younger readers you also read it. The back of the book doesnt really tell you what the book is about. it is very breif. You have to really read the book. Charlie is such an interesting character. He makes very interesting decisions. I just hope that one day we will find out who he is writing to.
