Rating: Summary: Cute book ... mostly for kids Review: This is a nice book if you're a teenager. Telling the story of a young, high school kid filled with existential angst, who has trouble finding his place among his peers, it's a cute coming-of-age book. Teens will relate to this guy is unsure of himself, ayet still wanting to do good. For adults, it's a quick read, but of little intellectual interest. The use of language, like the story, lacks ingenuity. I've read pieces by college freshman that were better written.
Rating: Summary: beautifully stunning Review: stumbled across this book, and absolutely loved it. Loved it so much I wrote a two page review for my school paper about it, and still wanted to shout from the rooftops what an amazing, breathtaking, haunting, achingly familiar, beautifully written book it is- I think there is a little Charlie in everyone.
Rating: Summary: Breathless! Review: I just finished reading this book and it is my new favorite! Charlie is a character that so many people can relate to and this book deals with issues that so many go through. And the poem in it is the most haunting thing I have ever read. Read this if you want to be entertained!
Rating: Summary: Uncoventionally Beautiful Review: Let me just start out with a cliche, I was changed after reading this classic. I consider it the optimy of coming-of-age books. So few books can affect the reader on several levels but Chbosky accomlishes this with grace with the innocent anticts of high school freshman, Charlie. If any part of you has ever felt like an outsider, an instant connection with Charlie is made. It deals with the real complications of teenage life. This book is truly unforgetable and a must read.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: This book is one of the few books that I read in a span of 3 days. It was very well written, considering the author had to escape into the mentality of a freshman in high school. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's entering high school or someone in high school, although I think that a lot of people, whether they're in high school or not, can relate to Charlie, the main character, at least in one way.
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: I absolutely loved this book. I could relate to so much of it. I think most people could easily see a piece of themselves in the main character. The author is very talented and I definitely recommend this book!!!!
Rating: Summary: Top Ten Ever Review: This book easily finds a place on the list of top ten best books in the latter half of the 20th century. It is astonishing that The Perks of Being a Wall Flower is Chbosky's first novel. My copy has passed through the hands of family members, friends, friends of friends etc. The bittersweet and quiet awakening of Charlie reminds readers to sometimes sit back and enjoy rain, music, life as it happens as opposed to retrospectively. The Perks of Being a Wallflower changed my expectations of novels and changed the way that I read and write... Missing this read is foolish. Read it and revel in the possibility of of youth.
Rating: Summary: My new favorite book. Review: The Catcher in the Rye for everybody who hated "the Catcher in the Rye".
Rating: Summary: A definate read Review: I just now finished reading Stephen Chbosky's first novel The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and to be straight to the point and very frank I loved it! I recomended it to quite a few of my friends. Chbosky's writing style is very applauling to me due to the fact that I read mostly assigned books recently. This is because of the advanced level of my classes I had little to no time for a "pleasure read." A very good friend of mine recomended this book to me because of the way the characters are shown. I personally could relate at one time or another to each and every one of the characters in this book. Chbosky's characters are very round and realistic. I'm very picky with my reading material; and the books I have been recently reading haven't interested me for the most part. However, this is a book I really did enjoy reading. It made me realize exactly how much I missed reading a good book. Anyway I would completly recomend this book to almost anyone. But I suppose it kind of depends on the person. But I enjoyed it very much!
Rating: Summary: A-pleading-to-be-convincing coming of age Review: Enjoying a wide variety of literature, with the "classics" being one of them, I was recommended this book. I was skeptical at first, obviously, since sappy and unconvincing coming-of-age books make me disrespect the writer even more. After reading this humourous little novel, I gained slight appreciation for it. Although it is nowhere near the realms of great stories of true growing men and their truths (as Catcher in the Rye or Great Expectations), it does however give you a sense of this boy's life. The problem with coming-of-age books is that the reader can so easily relate or not relate with the book's reality. Therefore, an exceptionally good book of this genre requires the reader to be convinced. So, does the reader fall into the writer's convictions of struggle in the heart of a growing teen? More or less. Is it poor on writing things that the average adult might have washed away once leaving that rediculous ignorance of adolescence. Often. The Perks of being a Wallfower is the kind of book that either touches or fails you in your attempts of a good read. If you're an insecure teenager or one that enjoys the confusement of adolescent truth, than this is probably to your liking. If you are an experianced reader who enjoys truth, without it being overly done and trying, this may not be your type of thing. Either way, it depends on the reader and is probably worth reading anyway (like all books). Ahhh, it makes you remember you're teenage years. Were they "infinite" like the book states? Well, I suppose to each is own. As for me, although my experiances were very different and more secure on self-truth, I can still close my eyes and smell the sweet taste of nostalgia.
