Summary: this book completely took over me
Review: I think this was one of the best books I have ever read. I fell in love with Charlie and how vunerable and honest he was as a character. It is one of those books that breaks your heart and makes you cry with joy at the same time. I recommended it to two other people and before I knew it it had been passed along to a whole group of my friends.
It is simply a "day in the life" story about a teenage boys' struggle to be accepted but still be true to his gut feelings. The authour writes with such and strong and unique voice that you really miss the characters when you are finished. In fact, when I was done with it, I went back to the first page and read it over again. If there is ever a fire, my worn out copy is one of the things I will grab.

Summary: Pointless.....
Review: I didnt enjoy this book at all, it was sraight out boring. The plot was very weak and I kept waiting for something to happen, and knowing that it couldn't just end that way. "Charlie" is really annoying, and the author is trying to make it seem as if he is writing and sending the letters to the reader, but the whole thing really isn't working. I only gave it two stars because Sam and Patrick are cool characters, and the characters weren't all that bad, except Charlie...i dont recomend for you to read this book, I'm telling you now it's a waste of time!

Summary: What an amazing book.
Review: I was told to read this book by a few friends. And I'm not one to read books. But I was given this book for graduation and finished it in less than a week. This could quite possibly be the best book I've never read. The way the author shows you Charlie's life just makes you miserable and wonderful at the same time. I wanted so badly for my life to make sense like his. To have friends like him. To have everything be so simple like him.

"Charlie, you're a freak." "I know, but I'm trying."

I only wish I could be that strong.

Summary: Definately A Perk
Review: I think this book was the best I have ever read. I'm really not a big reader, but I found myself always wanting to read this book. I think it digs very deep into a boy, that I think is much like other teenage boys, but are too afraid to admit it. I thought this character was brilliant, and I loved his relationships with everyone in the book. It was funny at times, but very serious at others, and I think it gives a closer view of sometimes how teenagers honestly feel. I was very happy that Stephen Chbosky wrote about the boys experiences, much like ones we all delt with. I absolutely loved this book, and I recommend it to any reader, especially young teens.

Summary: not the best. not the worst.
Review: I wish I could give this book a raving, shining review [...]. Unfortunately, while it does have its good points, it seems a little too unrealistic to be taken for face value. The book reflects upon topics that many different groups of people, but especially teenagers, can relate to: trying to fit into the world when you feel like you're different, family ties, and hiding from problems. Another good quality about the book is the casual style in which it's written. It's easier for teenagers to relate to.

However, I must criticize Mr. Chbosky and say that the language the teenagers use when speaking to one another is a bit stuffy for what a teenager would actually use. Also, how many teenagers you know have experienced a friend's suicide, a sister's pregnancy (and abortion), a beloved aunt's death, the effects of LSD, and an unrequited crush, ALL in the same year? Overall, what I'd call an "airplane book": enough plot to keep you reading, but not enough reality to actually enjoy.

Summary: A Touching Work
Review: After finishing The Perks of Being a Wallflower, I tried to understand what made it so much better than other coming of age stories that try to pull the heart strings. I realized that it's the realism. Charlie's experiences all feel as if they could happen and this is what keeps the reader so caught up in his life. The scene when Charley gets his first high and keeps saying he wants to drink/eat a milkshake is classic, but more importantly real.

Having graduated from the same high school as the author, I felt particularly entranced by his vision of high school. The oppression exists, but so does the hope for a better tomorrow. The homophobia and the clicks, even stupid ideas (like having days of school after finals) are all there. Charlie's freshman year is far from ordinary, but his high school is nothing but--that is one reason why the book is so strong.

Summary: The Ends Did NOT Justify the Means
Review: I thought this was one of the worst books I had ever read. The author used shock tactics to try to make his points, but he ended up writing a book that tells me he has no idea what the youth of the time period were doing. He uses drugs and sex to draw an audience, but the people who are drawn to such stories will be impervious to the points Chbosky is trying to make. Furthermore one has to wander what IS the point he's trying to get across? That abuse is inheritted? Or is it a coming of age story with a severly troubled teen who can still get high, drunk, and laid with the best of them? No maybe it's a love story that was never meant to be due to the triangle of mixed emotions and sexual roles. Whatever the purpose it was missed, lost, or maybe forgotten in the rush to fill the book with the jumble of sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

Summary: My New favorite book
Review: This book touched me in a way I never thought a book could. My friend was reading this book, only a few pages in, and told me to buy it, so after he finished it I read it. I started it at dinner time and read the whole way through. I have never once cried from a book, or even laughed out loud, until I read this. I was amazed, you felt so close to the character and when he hurt, you hurt too. There were a few lines in this book that I actually burst out laughing, and read it over and over because I couldnt believe how good the book is. My boyfriend hates reading so I am going to read this book to him, you can relate to charlie so much and im so glad I read this book, it changed me.
