Rating: Summary: beauty Review: Chbosky's short and choppy sentences are no match for the great and eloquent works produced by Shakespeare, but it is through this primitive style that he is able to give life to the character of Charlie. Chbosky's allows the reader to see the world through Charlie's eyes with his child-like mentality and also to share in his experiences. No matter how uncomfortable the situation may be, the reader is thrown into it head first. All the while Charlie is there, like a child telling a story, reporting the scene with excruciating detail and then some. Charlie's character is a freshman in high school and is perceived by others to be a "wallflower". He sits back and observes the life that surrounds him even though at times it seems it has left him behind and forgotten. Charlie has the incredible ability to analyze the world around him; he states the painful truth which many choose to avoid. I believe this to be a great piece of writing because of its overall structure. Through his word choice and primitive manner, Chbosky is able to set the tone and paint the picture of adolescence in its most simple and raw form.
Rating: Summary: Stunning. Absolutely, undeniably stunning. Review: "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is quite simply an amazing work of fiction. On reflection, words to describe this remarkable book come sparingly.Told in the first person by "Charlie", "Wallflower" is at heart an honest book. Charlie is writing letters to an unidentified recipient because he's feeling overwhelmed with his life. He's starting high school. His sister is starting to act out. His brother is off to college. Quickly though, shy, sensitive Charlie is helped out of his emotional shell when he befriends two seniors, Patrick and Sam and the remainder of the novel chronicles the year they spend together. There are several key elements that make "Wallflower" a stand out book. The first-person narrative isn't much different from other books in the coming-of-age genre, but Charlie is. In "Catcher in the Rye" and others similar to it, the main characters are jaded and somewhat snobbish, thinking they have the answers. Charlie just wants to be happy and to make others feel good. He's a simple-minded person. Secondly, Stephen Chbosky creates a comprehensive list of things that compliment this novel with music and other books that he gives the titles to freely. Chances are you've heard a good percent of the songs and read one or two of the books. Even "M*A*S*H" plays a small, significant part in Charlie's world. This helps to understand some of the subtle feelings at times and deepens the novel that much more. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is probably the most sincere book to have come out in the past decade or so. Touching to the last, funny and heartwarming, it will adhere to your fingertips like crazy glue until you've turned that final page. And chances are you might just pick it right back up. More likely than that though, is that you'll rush out to share it with someone because it's just that good.

Rating: Summary: Great character; 3 1/2 stars, not 4 Review: Charlie reminds me of so many of the teens I know and knew back in high school. Picked this up on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the writing and the sincere settings. I was not pleased with the Aunt Helen twist- it feels like every movie and book uses a similar storyline. Overall, good
Rating: Summary: Great book! Couldn't put it down! Review: My friend made me read it, and now I am passing it on to all of my friends! Everyone in my school has read it as well. This book has so many twists and turns, that I got a little dizzy. But the ending will shock you! Read it, read it now!
Rating: Summary: Best. Book. EVER. Review: I have read this book over and over again. It has become my favourite book of all time. Stephen Chbosky's writing is gripping and powerful, and touches deeply on to the culture of the early 90s, a time of turmoil and greed. Charlie is someone everyone can relate to. He represents the soft-spoken, trying to come on as strong as possible side everyone has. His obsession with Sam is just like so many first loves to exist. His friendship with Patrick is true to many relationships where one side has to help the other overcome the darker and more tragic side of itself. Do yourselves a favour and READ THIS BOOK. You will not regret it.
Rating: Summary: Please read it. Review: This is a short review. I just finished this book. It is simply one of the most amazing books I have ever read. If you are reading this review and have not read it, please do. I could go into why I think everyone should read it, but i don't think I will. Because I think the beauty of this book is the pieces of themselves that each person finds when they read it. It was extremely poetic and beautiful to me for my reasons and I hope you will find your own reasons to find it beautiful. ...
Rating: Summary: Most people who read about high school are middle schoolers Review: I did not entirely hate this book. Far from it. I enjoyed it to an extent, though did not find it to be the insightful though-prevoking novel I was anticipating after reading some of these reviews. Granted, this book does have a well developed scenario and is relatable, but I do not feel like I gained anything intelectually from partaking in this experience or lack there of. I am only a high schooler, so really, what do I honestly know about world literature? A fraction of what I should, I admit, but I do know there are greater books that have had a larger impact on humanity then "Perks of Being A Wallflower." Try something existential, or look in to some of the writers of the beat generation, whose techniques, I believe, Chbosky had the sense to imitate. But if you are just starting out reading, then perhaps you should disregard my review and start small, but work your way up to someone of promising literary merit.
Rating: Summary: A must read for all teenagers Review: This book was a great experience and I recomend it to any teenager or adult. It is the gross reality of how painful and wonderful being a teenager can be. I fell in love with the narrator Charlie who wrote letters of his life. He is a deeply honest and good person. And his unique style of writing makes the book even more real seeming. He writes like he would talk and doesn't try and doesn't use big words that people would never say in thier everyday conversations. He is a simple boy that most people can relate to in some way.
