Rating: Summary: The Perks of Being a Wallflower Review: Stephen Chobsky's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" has been one of the best books i have ever read in my life. This fiction novel was taken place in the early 90's, maybe around 1992. The story is revolved around Charlie, a boy of 15 years old, that in the begginning is apprehensive of his first year of highschool. He speaks of his childhood memories, of a friend who killed himself, and of his aunt Helen who died. He meets two people, Patrick and Sam, who he tends to have a liking for, and he quickly becomes friends with the two seniors. Charlie is good in school and has fun with Sam and Patrick, and their friends. Charlie's new friends show him the vast world of drugs, music and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. He spends his holidays with his family and watching his older brother play football on the Penn State team. Charlie's dark past sneaks up on him close to the end of his freshman year. His friends are leaving for college and the loneliness starts to appear again. Will Charlie ever overcome his feelings for Sam?
Rating: Summary: A looking glass, broke... Review: This book is an excellent read and I've thought this much ever since I picked it up when I first saw it on the bookshelves in the library... I may not be able to do it justice by quoting the pages of text in a psuedo-intellectual form of making myself look important. All I will say is that it belongs on more high school reading lists for it to ever be taken seriously as an achievment in litterary power.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book. Review: I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower over the summer. When I started to read it, I couldn't stop. It's my favorite book. It touched my heart, soul, and mind in many ways. If you haven't read it, than read it. I read for 5 days straight, I just couldn't put it down. Get it and you wouldn't reget it.
Rating: Summary: "Made me feel infinite" Review: Wow!A friend of mine lent this book to me. Now I have to buy it. I just finished reading it. It's classic. Charlie is on the brink of discovering a lot about himself and life in general. A freshman in high school, Charlie feels what many teens do: angst, joy, panic, sad, etc. There are the problems of grades, family, crushes, etc. "Wallflower" takes all these and more in depth. I fell in love with Charlie! He is struggling to understand why things are the way they are and why people are who they are. His best friends are Sam and Patrick. He is deeply in love with Sam and learns a lot from her. Throughout the whole book, the reader is able to see how Charlie changes from a confused boy who seems to accept things the way they are but who doesn't see a real purpose in life. With the help of his best friends and his English teacher who gives Charlie books that have a certain common trait, Charlie is able to learn about people, about the meaning of life(whatever that may be). He builds relationships and learns valuable lessons that need to be portrayed more. I found myself rooting for Charlie and thinking about how he felt. I made him real. The reason I did is because I know everyone feels what Charlie does at some point in their life. Charlie showed me more positive in things than I had ever seen. I know this doesn't make sense and I apologize. Read the book and you will definitely understand why I love it so much. A little weird at some points(like when Charlie discovers something about one of his best friends) but overall an excellent book. I loved it! PEACE
Rating: Summary: This book will make you LOVE reading again! Review: THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER addresses many issues that a teen will experience while growing up. These include suicide, drinking, smoking, drugs, sex, depression, rape, homosexuality, pregnancy/abortion, and friendship. This book discusses all these topics without a blink of an eye, and for that reason, it should definitely not by read by anyone that's younger than thirteen. However, it shouldn't only be read by teenagers: I recommend it to everyone older as well. It's very addictive -- and will make you rediscover the pleasure of reading, again! Rating: Summary: i'll never be the same Review: wow...what a book. i'm a fairly avid reader and rather hard to please. i need to be caught by the story within the first 5 pages or you've lost me. stephen chbosky takes into charlie's life. i was caught in the first page and couldn't put it down until i was through. not only did i feel like i was watching charlie's life but that i was a part of it. his friends are so there for him. they support him and comfort him. charlie is so out there but he's also so innocent in someways and he slowly loses that innocence. with lots of drug use alchohol and of course the rocky horror picture show. this book is not just a good book it's like an experience and it's one that i don't think that i'll forget. if you don't like to face up to what you think is worng and you can't get passed the things that may be considred morally wrong then you wouldn't last throguh this book. charlie is such a wonderful soul. you will never forget this book. even if you don't like it you will never forget it.charlie's friend dawn
Rating: Summary: The best book i have ever read! Review: I picked up this book after it was recomended to me by one of my sister's college-aged friends and i was not dissapointed. i brought the book to my travel camp so that i could read it on the bus and i just couldn't put it down. my friends had to rip the book out of my hands just to get my attention. by the end of the summer, all 13 of the people in my camp group had read it, including my counsler. all of them put this book on their top ten lists of favorite books. even my best guy friend, who seems to be allergic to any type of books, read the book in one night. it's absolutely brilliant! im sick and tired of the books where either everything is going right, or everything spirals into disaster. this book was an even mix of good and bad events and its so realistc that its scary. if you want to read perhaps one of the best books ever written, pick up this book as soon as you can. you wont be dissapointed. also, keep in mind that this book can get very realistic and graphic at times so it should be only for mature readers.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: The other reviews of the book are accurate in their synopsis of the book, so I'm here to tell you that this book is simply amazing. Everyone should read it at least once. It's actually perfect to read once before high school and once after. I love this book!
Rating: Summary: Superb. Review: There are parts of this book that speak to the very inside of your soul. It is beautifully written and constructed, the lead character giving away more of his personality than he realises. And telling yourself about your own character. I was given this book and did not expect it to affect me the way it did. This is one to read and read again.
