Rating: Summary: Its the second best. Review: Lord of the Rings is the best. What else can i say I have read each 6 or more times. The Hobbit begins our journey through the emense and very complex Middle Earth. It introduces us to the world which Tolkien loved and was kind enough to share with us. The character developement, the plot, the history, and the language make the story unique and a masterpiece. I first read the books when I was 9 and I've been stuck in Tolkiens world ever sense. Read it before they butcher it with a movie.
Rating: Summary: This Book Was Pretty Darn Good Review: My High School Engligh teacher had us watch the animated film "The Hobbit" to kill time while she worked out report card grades one day. Most of the class resorted to talking and signing yearbooks, but I was slightly intrigued at the movie. At the end, she remarked "We'll have to read the book before we watch this so it will keep your interest more".Later, I hear about this whole "Lord of the Rings" thing on the 'net, and I get the impression that this series rocks if your into fantasy. So I go take the book out of the library. I liked it -- a lot! The songs were kind of boring, and the plot was little more than a long series of mishaps, but it's told in a captivating narritive fasion that will keep your attention. The charachters are very likeable. It reminded me of C.S. Lewis' "Cronicles of Narnia". Go read it if you like fantasy, I can't wate to read "The Lord of the Rings". And, believe it or not, it kept the attention of my seven year old brother! That is the sign of a good book.
Rating: Summary: People, we have a winner. Review: This is, quite simply, the greatest novel I have ever read. This is the book that set the standard for fantasy-fiction, written by the man that created the language for fantasy-fiction. No amount of flattery can give this work of art its due credit. Read it, and you'll see.
Rating: Summary: Missing out if you haven't read it! Review: This is the best book I have ever read. Filled with adventure, vivid description of another world and amazing characterizations. I can't think of anything not good about it. If you like fantasy you're missing out if you haven't read this one!
Rating: Summary: No library is complete without the Collector's Edition! Review: Others have reviewed the content of this well-known book, so I will not. Instead I will focus on this edition. And what an edition it is! Hardcover, it comes in its own box with a leather binding to match the book itself. On the cover of the book itself are runes and a woodcut embossed in red and gold foil. It looks great! In addition to the illustrations included by the author, there are many full-color plates of the locales in the book. This is the kind of book that you would expect to find in a dusty attic or a magical old bookshop. This is truly a great edition! Absolutely heirloom quality!
Rating: Summary: Remember, it's for kids. Review: Tolkien had wrote The Hobbit in the mid-30's as a children's book, which is plainly demonstrated in the expositionary nature of the narrator, the buffoonery of the Dwarves and Bilbo, and so on. Even Sauron is some vague menace called "the Necromancer". As for people being "bored" by The Hobbit? I can only shrug and reply, "You get what you put in."

Rating: Summary: this wasnt a good book at all!!! Review: this isnt a good book and i suggest u not read it cuz it will just make u not want to read any othe tolkien books!!!!
Rating: Summary: A very good book! Review: I have read this book three times, and it has always been one of my favorite book. It is too bad that the fantasy novels of today have to have a fight or battle every ten pages to keep readers interested. Most people forget that this book was written 50+ years ago, when readers didn't have the attention span of a flea...
Rating: Summary: Good (But Not Great) Review: The Hobbit was a good fantasy/adventure, but what I did not enjoy about it was that it lacked character devlopment. The only character that was developed enough was Biblo Baggins. As for Gandalf and the thirteen dwarfs, since they weren't that devloped I found myself not really caring about them as much as I would like. However, despite the negative, there is still much more positive things to be said about this novel. It's a great fantasy/adventure, and it basically pioneered the way for other fantasy/adventure stories to come. It has plenty of action, and it is rarely boring. All in all, I reccomend this novel, and I am eagerly going to read The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
