Summary: Very misleading
Review: First of all the summary on the back of the book was not only misleading, but a blatent lie. A mysterious stranger DOESN'T show Kate, Annie and Cooper to connect with the spirit world, there AREN'T alarming affects, Kate DOESN'T step out of the bounds of Wicca and her friends DON'T worry for her. Why then you ask does the book say these things happen? Probably because had they actually described what *did* happen in the book, nobody would have brought it. So what did happen? In two words: not much.
The style of this book is similar to her Isobel Bird's previous Circle of Three books in the way that it simply trails along merrily without much of a plot structure or development, but in this case, it is even more obvious. It is even difficult to pick up which is the main plot, and which are the sub-plots, as all three characters are off on different little 'adventures'. Cooper has a rather pointless encounter with her friend's grandfather, and finds her totem animal, Kate is following her Wiccan teacher's instructions and exploring the Santerian religion and getting annoyed with her brother for not supporting her being a Wiccan like she hoped she hoped he would, and Annie is continuing her steamy love affair with Tyler. No, not really, the two of them are actually avoiding/making out with each other and being indesisive about what they're going to do about Kate.
My verdict is, that 'Making the Saint' seems to be more of a bridge between the last book and the next, just a 'filler' in the series. That's not good - separate books in a series should be able to stand on their own, and this one doesn't.

Summary: still a great series
Review: so I had to balance out the last review, this whole series is one of the best that mixes fantasy with what real magick is all about. This book focuses on developing the characters as children/young adults... So even if there is a lot of confused feelings that is what growing up is about. The plot is about the girls learning/studying specific paths of magick/faith. The girls just like most people start stumbling through getting in touch with these new faiths... that is what the story is about. And like the other books in the series it focuses on one girl mostly, but blends in the others.
The only problem with the book is that it isn't being published and is impossible to get unless you want to read the digital version... but I still think every one of these books are treasures.
