Summary: "Ok" book
Review: It was a little slow at some parts but the wimsical and possible comedy made up for it. The words were well-chosen and the plots kept you glued to the book. The paragraphs were very vivid and easily imaginable. Overall I would recomend this book to kids over the age of 12 and someone who would be willing to drink coffe to stay awake in some parts of the book.

Summary: bored in seattle
Review: Let's see. This book, Saturnalia, isn't the greatest book in the world. We had to read it in my language class. I really didn't like the setting. It's pretty easy to understand when the author changes from character to character. You know, their point of views and stuff. Well anyways, I guess some of the characters were okay like Malcom. He's a girl crazy apprentice that destroys his masters love life. I had a hard time trying to stay awake while my teacher read the book out loud. I even fell asleep with my eyes open. What else... oh yea. The story is about a boy named William who lives in Boston as an apprentice. He's an indian boy looking for someone that he thinks lives in Boston. He finds somebody else and then gets into this whole big thing with the tithingman. As the story goes on of course everything gets better and so on and so forth. (Like every other story.) Well thats about it on my opinion for this book. I wonder if there's anything else I can say about this. Ummm... Oh. This book is back in the old colonial times and unless if you like learning about stuff like that, don't read this book. This book is actually pretty short but once somebody starts reading it to you, it seems to go on into infinity.

Summary: Read it in one sitting!
Review: Paul Fleischman is a great experimenter when he writes young adult fiction, and this is another example of his virtuosity. This delicately written historical fiction foreshadows the rise in black slavery in America. With other examples of historical fiction, it shows the struggles and inconsistancies of beliefs by colonists at the time. I am not surprised the "Reader from Seattle, Washington" did not like it. Any book read over a two month period would kill me. This type of book needs to be read over a short period of time to preserve the mood and characterizations. Why do teachers do this to students? I cannot wait to share it with the students in our library at school.

Summary: It had some funny parts but mostly it was boring
Review: Saturnalia has some good qualities, but also some bad. It is kind of slow moving, so sometimes it gets boring. There is one character, Malcolm, who makes the book a lot better than it would be without him. There are a lot of funny parts with him in it. He was my favorite character. There is a lot of good imformation on colonial time stuff,so if you are looking for a book to read about social studies, then this is a good book, but I wouldn't recommend it for fun reading.

Summary: Lacking Interest!
Review: Saturnalia is a book that was supposed to be based on a young man named William. Mainly it was about him but there were a lot of characters that had nothing to do with the actual story/plot. The characters may not have been a part of the actual story but they tended to be very interesting. The conflict was confusing and spread out which made it dull sometimes. William was trying to find his family who was separated when the English massacred their village. Read the book and find out what happens. It is a short book.

Summary: Saturnalia
Review: Saturnalia is a boring, but exciting in its own little way. Its characters are very fascinating. The characters I liked were William, Malcolm, the Curries, and Madam Phipp. William is a Narraganset Native American. He was very smart and had a good memory. Malcolm was funny. He was a lady's man, always trying to please women. The Curries are William's English family. They treat William with great respect. Last, but not least is Madam Phipp. She is not easily tricked. The style is excellent. It could change people thoughts really smoothly even though it is kind of confusing. The setting was okay. It let you know what time it was, the weather, and the place. The theme isn't really that clear. I rate this book a 2. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading historical fiction.

Summary: (((((FANTASTIC)))))
Review: Saturnalia is a fantastic novel about a young Native-American boy, William, who gets taken captive by the English in the King Phillips War. It takes place in Colonial Boston. The style of Paul Fleischman is really cool. He can make it so that when a person walks by the story switches to that character. I think it is a fantastic novel. I recommend it to any one who can read and likes history.

Summary: Saturnalia book review 11-27-02
Review: Saturnalia is a good book. I think Saturnalia is a good book because it is fictional but could happen making it historical or historical fiction. Though the main character is a Narragansett Indian named William there is another character that my class thought was funnier. The character's name is Malcolm. This book is confusing though because it's like three stories in one book but it's really only one story. The stories jump back and forth between each other telling the story but when you finish and think about it you can see easily the different "parts" or "stories". One of the "stories within the story" is about the main character William, the family he's with, and the tithingman, Mr. Baggot. The second "story within the story" is about Malcolm, the character my class thought was funnier than William, his master Mr. Hogwood, and Madam Phipp, the person Mr. Hogwood is after for love. Finally, the third "story within the story" is about a man named Mr. Speke, an Indian girl, and a feeling he is desperately trying to get rid of.

Summary: A Pretty Good Book.
Review: Saturnalia is a good book. It has a good style by smoothly switching from character to character. It also has some other good parts in it. It also has some bad parts in it like the beginning of the book is really boring and didn't make that much sense.
The book is about a little Indian boy named William. He lives with the Curries and is an apprentice. There was a lot of other characters like Malcolm who is very entertaining because he was trying to get all the ladies but keeps getting rejected and refuses to believe it.
So over all I think the book was pretty good after you get past the rocky beginning.

Summary: Colonial Times
Review: Saturnalia is a good short book for older readers. Younger readers would not know what some of the words mean(old English)and would find it hard to understand. What i liked about the book though is that it tells about how one person, William who is about 14, must decide between two cultures, Indain and English. He came to the English culture from being captured in a war and was sent to work as a printer in the town of Boston. The story takes place in the colonial times. Overall i think Saturnalia was a good book and recomend it to older or more mature readers.
