Rating: Summary: Saturnalia Review: After reading this book, I found that I did not particulary like it. That may be because I am not a very big historical fiction fan, or maybe because I did not click with it. In othere words, I thought that this book was not of interest and would advise people not to read it unless they enjoy historical fiction very, very much. The story is about an Indian, not a Native American, named William. He is an apprentice in a printing shop. Saturnalia is an old holiday celebrated by his masters. During this time, the serving people trade places with their masters. Also, the revenge the tithingman is trying to place apon William. Another character is a man who is lovesick and wants to win the heart of of a widowed woman. He tells his apprentice Malcolm to deliver gifts to her, but Malcolm gives the better ones to a heartless serving maid.
Rating: Summary: Funny moments make it worth while Review: For a class project we read the story Saturnalia, which is about a young Narraganset boy whose name is William and many crazy characters and how they all survive the crazy colonial times. If I had to rate this book I would have to give it a three because some parts of the story would put you to sleep like when learning about the Curries and their many many children, but there are parts that will keep you on your seat like when Malcolm tried to talk to the servant girl and got covered in the fillings from the chamber pot.
Rating: Summary: Saturnalia Review Review: I disliked the story Saturnalia for a few reasons, I think that it was written very confusing, the beginning was very boring and that is the most important part, the beginning is supposed to introduce the characters and it didn't really do that, also because I really didn't get into the story so I really did not enjoy the book. The book takes place in Boston and its about a boy named William who lives a double life, by day he is Mr. Currie's printing apprentice, by night he is an Indian from the tribe Narraganset and his name is Weetasket. Mr. Baggot (the Tithing man) is very unsure about William and he doesn't trust him. With the winter holiday Saturnalia, which is when master and servant change places for one full day, he thinks that Williams secret life will be reviled. I don't want to ruin the story so wont tell you. I would recommend this book to people that like the author Paul Flieshman and to people that like books that have characters that are mysterious, also to people that like books that have some history in them. The reason I would is because in the story there is some history and you don't really know much about the main characters.
Rating: Summary: very boring Review: I found this book extremly boring. The plot was very bad because it took place in the colonial times and it was not descriptive enough. The style of the book and its characters are its greatest strength becuase it jumped to characters very well and descriped them very well. The theme is too confusing to find and I felt I learned too much about the Narraganset tribe and didn't learn enough about William's life with the English.
Rating: Summary: Could it be any more boring??? Review: I found this book to be quite boring. As Saturnalia was read to the class, I found myself only being attracted to the humor but it was seldom used. This book would've been more interesting if there was more action packed into the story. The setting should've also been better described. This is why I rated this book a 3.
Rating: Summary: Sturnalia Review: I rated this book a 1 star because realy it's kind of boring. this story takes place in colonial times. Some of the characters are realy hard to understand like Malcom he tries to get all of the girls he can exept all of the girls turn him down, but he keeps trying anywys. In my oppinion the best part of this book is the characters and the worst part is the moral. If you do read thids book im telling you that it will take a long time to read, but overall it is an ok book for older people.
Rating: Summary: A good book for teenagers Review: I recommend this book to teenagers who want to learn more about history and colonist times. There is comedy in the book like Malcom is a ladies man in some parts I could imagine it playing out like a movie. There are lots of different personalities in this book such as kind people but there was a couple rude people who would whip their servants and give them only a piece of bread a day.I would recommend that you read this book by yourself and read it in a short period of time because the book only has 111 pages so you should be done with the book within 7-14 days because after that you will lose interest in the book and become bored with it. So it is a very good.
Rating: Summary: Saturnalia Review: I think that Saturnalia is an interesting book about a Narraganset boy. The style of the book is good because it is well written because when it changes from character to another it changes it well enough for someone to understand when it is talking about another character and there also are a lot of words that are hard to read or understand. The story is not just about a Narraganset boy but also about a lot of other characters. The characters of Saturnalia are well described so I'd say that the characters and the style are its biggest strength. The plot of the story is interesting because there are three different stories about different characters going on the same time. Like William trying to keep up with his present and at the same time he is trying to remember more about his past, there's also a story about Malcolm, Mr. Hogwood, and Madam Phipp, which is mostly about Mr. Hogwood, and last but not least there is a story about Mr. Speke, who is trying to fight his past. The setting is o.k. Because it is always described in the story. I recommend this book to people who are able to read and understand tough words.
Rating: Summary: saturnalia is a bore Review: I thought it was really boring.I shouldnt of paid as much attenion as I did, which wasnt that much in the first place but basiclally i thought it was extreamliey boring.I recomend this book to people who like boring books.
Rating: Summary: Better than expected Review: I was mainly looking for some shorter books for some of my students who aren't great readers when I bought this book. I had really liked Whirligig, by this author, so I wanted to see some of his other work. It's really a nice little book, better than the review indicated. It's a quick read and all of my students who read it liked it very much.
