Rating: Summary: Phoenix Rising is uplifting Review: After a nuclear spill evacuees are sent to Nyle's farm in Vermont where she lives with her grandmother. The main character of the story keeps Ezra and his mother at a distance until she learns to trust them and like them. She understands the importance of friendship after getting to know them. Best part of the book is in the middle when the two teenagers are talking about heros. It proves the point that there are everyday heros. I loved the book because it was very moving.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF MY TOP 3! Review: I liked that the author made it so you felt like you were really there! I didn't like the accident at the Cookshire Nuclear Power Plant. People who would enjoy this book are those who like nuclear energy, young adults, anyone of any age, and someone who likes sad but enjoyable books. My overall opinion about this book is it is outstanding. It warns you about chances you take in life. It is definitely one of my top three favorites. You'll want to read this book over and over. It is truly a "phoenix rising." I'll tell you this much, you'll never regret reading this book and you'll just want more greats from this author.
Rating: Summary: Wondeful Review: This book is a great book. It was a little boring in the beging but towards the end it got more exciting. He was doing so well as far as health but then it took a horrifing turn. This story will open your eyes to some of todays world disasters. This is Karen Hesse's best book by far!
Rating: Summary: E Shelle from Mrs. Erickson's class... Review: In my opinion the book, Phoenix Rising, was a wonderful book. There was only one part I didn't like, the ending. Phoenix Rising teaches you the pain of losing a loved one. Nyle, at the beginning, lost her mom and Gramps. Another lesson is that even though something can't be changed for one person, it can be changed for others. Hopefully the other victims of the accident were helped. The author did a fantastic job in creating the characters, settings, and the mood. Hesse allows the reader to get into the main character's mind and feel what she feels. For a few moments, I felt as if I was a character. I would would recommend this book to teens and adults, including friends and family. This is one of my favorite books!
Rating: Summary: a wonderful book! Review: This book was absolutely amazing! Karen Hesse has a wonderful style of writing that made Phoenix Rising so interesting. She uses literary terms throughout the chapters like they're everyday phrases. Ezra's beautiful story about the phoenix made her message clear: you have to keep going on. The plot was wonderful because it kept me waiting in suspense page by page, and I couldn't put it down! Hesse didn't have too many things going on at once in the chapters which made her message clearer to understand. I would recommend this book to young teenagers because they can relate to what Nyle is feeling and going through. Phoenix Rising will make the reader ask himself some questions about life that he's never thought of, and in the end wil leave him crying!
Rating: Summary: The most touching book I've ever read Review: A nuclear plant has exploded and people are afraid of getting radiation. Evacuees are everywhere, searching for help. The Trents are one of these. They are staying in Nyle Sumners home, a 13 year old girl who lives in a farm. At first, Nyle is wary of the 15 year old boy, Ezra. As time goes by however, they become friends and Nyle leads him back to health. They almost became more than friends before.....you find out. This book was the most touching book I've ever read. I cried so hard and couldn't stop. To people who haven't read this book yet, you have to! You won't regret it. People need a few good cries now and then. This is the best way to do it.
Rating: Summary: Another good one by Hesse Review: Even though this book starts off kind of slow, it gets more interesting. Nyle knew she had to help Ezra, a boy her age who was poisioned with radiation, but she didn't want him to die like her mother and grandfather.
Rating: Summary: Nyle understands that is important for her to help people. Review: It all starts when a nuclear spill takes place. A boy named Ezra is sick from radiation poisioning. He goes to live with Nyle and her Gram. At first Nyle doesn't like the idea of having him and his mother, but she gets over it. Ezra grows stronger everyday, but sometimes he is very weak. Nyle doesn't tell Muncie, her best friend, about Ezra. Nyle is starting to like having Ezra around and spends a lot of time with him. Muncie gets mad at Nyle, because she thinks that she doesn't really like her. Ezra keeps getting better and now he is able to attend school. When he goes to school he learns that he is the smartest person in his class. One time, when Nyle is visiting Ezra in his room she asked him what he wanted to hear today. Nyle would read him stories. In reply Ezra said, "Your voice." He told her how when he was sick her voice always brought him back. He also told her how he was a phoenix rising. He explained the meaning of that, which was an old myth. He said that a bird called a phoenix rises out of its ashes.
Rating: Summary: "A nuclear explosion brings Nyle closer to life and death" Review: Nyle Sumner, an orphan, living with her grandmoter on a sheep farm in persent day is forced to live with two evacuees from a nuclear power plant accident in a neiboring town. This book overall in my opinion was boring but there were a few parts of the the book that were interesting.
