Rating: Summary: PHOENIX RISING Review: Phoenix Rising is one book I just couldn't put down. It had so much detail. I could almost feel what the character was feeling. This book was sad at some points and happy. It was mostly sad, but it was still good. When a nuclear power plant has an explosion radiation goes everywhere. Nyle, this girl that lives on a sheep, thinks that nothing else could go wrong than having evacuees at her house. The evacuees are a mother and a 15 year old boy named Ezra. Ezra is very sick and everybody thinks he going to die, but he gets better. At the end something happens that nobody would expect. The end is the saddest of all. I loved this book so much. I would recommend it to anyone. If they don't like sad books I think they will start reading them after they read this one.
Rating: Summary: A breath taking tale of how a girl lives with evacuees. Review: This book is about a 13 year old girl named Nyle who lives on a sheep farm with her grandmother. One day there was a nuclear power plant explosion and millions of people died. Just when she thought nothing could get worse, two evacuees move in with her. They were a mother and her 15 year old son-Ezra. Ezra was dying and had no hope, but with Nyle's help he gets back on his feet. At the end of this book, you'll never believe what happens. It is sad and you would have never guessed it would happen. I think this was one of the best books I've ever read and I will read it again soon.
Rating: Summary: Phoenix Rising Review: Nyle and her grandmother live peacfully on thier farm, until the night of the accident at the Crookshire nuclear power plant. suddenly there are protective masks, evacuations, contaminated food. Nyle has barely adjusted when gran decides to take in Ezra Trent and his mother, two of the accident's survivors. While Ezra fights off death in the back bedroom, nyle forces herself to stay away. For what will happen if she comes to care for Ezra, only to lose him? This is a tale of love and hope rising like a phoenix, from destruction and despair. A novel by Karen Hesse
Rating: Summary: Pheonix Risings Review: Nyle, thirteen years old, and her grandmother have been living together in her grandmother's home, ever since her father abandoned her and her mother died. Nyle's grandfather died in the same room her mother did, the back room. Because of an explosion at a nuclear plant near by, a fifteen year old boy and his mother come stay with Nyle to get well from the radiation. It is the fifteen year old boy, Ezra, who is suffering from radiation sickness. Nyle feels if she gets too close to him, she will start to love him, and he will die. Ezra is staying in the back room, and Nyle has given absolutely no hope. Nyle hasn't bee close to too many peple, and that is part of what makes her afraiding of gettin close to Ezra. Although, Nyle gains confidence for him after he has been there a while. She starts having a closer relationship with him, and they really bond. Read the book to see what happens to Ezra, and their relationship. This book was very well written and never got too slow. I suggest this book to anyone looking for a good, memorable book to read. This book is around a 6th to 7th grade reading level. Once you read it you will love the wonderful details, the creative surprises, and the magical story between to people.
Rating: Summary: The adventure of my life Review: This book Pheonix Rising gave me the touch of friendship. I thought in the beggining I would never want to read this book. When I did I noticed it was a book that helps me understant the sick. When Ezra showed that she wasn't sick anymore and told Nyle it was because she learned how to love again it touched my heart greatly. I understood then that you shouldn't like people for how they act because they change. Now I want to read a second version of Pheonix Rising. But there isn't one. Once you read the book you really understand what Pheonix means, and why its called Pheonix Rising. It touched me greatly. I loved the book and so should you. This book showed me what loving really means. A third grade class helped me through out reading this book. They told me what Pheonix means and it helped me a lot to understand the book. Thank you third graders! Now I went to library and found all the books by Karen Hesse I love all of them! Thank you for a adventure of a life time through a book that touched me so. Pheonix Rising.
Rating: Summary: Jesse James's review Review: I would say this was the second best book I read. It includes drama, action, and is very informational. It has great falling and rising action. The book is fiction, but has non-fiction events. The book has a great climax. The characters really interact and help each other stay alive and fight the radiation. The book tells about what radiation can really do to you and the enviroment. The book really makes you think about it and puts images in your mind. Friendships fall apart and reunite. The book shows how hard it is to get through life. The accident at cookshire causes Erza to get radiation sickness. Nyle and Gran have to take care and keep Ezra and his mother until the radiation dies down.
Rating: Summary: great book-definantly recommend it to everyone Review: Pheonix Rising is a great book. I would recommend it to everyone. The fight between life and death kept me reading. What would you do if one day everything is fine, then the next day every one was wearing masks, and people were dying from radiation poisoning just from going outside! Nyle is forced to cope with these conditions. Along with radiation, Nyle has to deal with Ripley, a mean bully who only teases Nyle and Muncie. Muncie is Nyle's best friend. She is deformed, so she is usually the target of discrimination. Nyle is angry at the people who worked at the nuclear power plant. That is how it all started. The plant exploded, and sent radiation all over. She is also angry at the evacuees, who got in critical condition from radiation inhalation. Then, two evacuees are sent to her house with her Grandma (Nyles mom died from cancer, and her dad left right before she died because he couldn't bear to see her die). It was her Grandma's idea. How will Nyle get through will all this? Read Pheonix Rising by Karen Hesse to find out!
Rating: Summary: Rise with the phoenix... Review: Nyle is 13 when an accident at the nuclear power plant changes her life. Living with her grandmother, she is forced/destined to help out a mother and son exposed to the radiation at the nuclear power plant. Ezra, the son, had the greater exposure and is extremely sick. This is how Nyle overcomes her own fears to come out and help Ezra, and be helped in return. The book is touching, though short. It is a definite read because afterwards...it will leave you wondering, and maybe a bit somber.
Rating: Summary: Phoenix Rising Review: Phoenix Rising was a pretty good book. It's about a girl who lives in North Haversham. There was a nuclear explosion in the nearby town of Cookshire. It causes the whole town to wear gauze masks. After the radiation clears up, an evacuee and his mother come and stay at Nyle's house. The evacuee's name is Ezra. He is really sick with radiation poisoning, and a little more will kill him. At first, Nyle is afraid to go and see him. Then she starts to go every night to read to him. She starts to like him as he gets better and better. She becomes attached, and she thinks she'll never have to let go and doesn't know what to do if she does. This was a pretty good book. It got a little boring in the middle because it was mostly Nyle's emotions. That's the only thing I didn't like. Phoenix Rising is great for those who don't like a ton of action, but like a little bit. Phoenix Rising was different because all the action was at the beginning (the nuclear explosion) and the end (the fight with Ripley Powers). Phoenix Rising will break your heart! I could have cried a river reading about a boy so sick with so much will and heart! He couldn't have done it without Nyle. She truly was a hero On a scale of 1-5, I rate this book a 4 because of the emotional effect. You'll rate it the same. Maybe even higher! :)
Rating: Summary: Short, but Sweet Review: Phenoix Rising is a really good book. I actually just fished it out of an old bookcase at my house!! I'll admit, the plot is a little slow at the beginning, but it gets better. Nyle and her feelings are very realistic. This is the only book that made me cry. (And yes, I do read a lot) It is kind of short(I finished it in two days) but I recommend it. Unless you don't like stories that are a little sappy, get this book!
