Rating: Summary: Jordan is the absolute best of modern fantasy. Review: I first picked this book up on a cold winter day, I was sick, and I needed something to keep me entertained. I took the book home hoping it could at least help me get to sleep which it did not do. I read that book the first day. Never having heard of Robert Jordan before then I was amazed at how great the novels were. Jordan, is absolutly the best modern fantasy writer there is. Since the fateful day in 1994 I havent found one book that has captured my attention quite like the WoT series. If your a fantasy buff, this and the books that follow it are for you.
Rating: Summary: the best of an overrated series Review: By now any and all fans of fantasy writing know of, and have probably read some of, Robert Jordan's 'The Wheel of Time' series. For those who have not, let me say this: this is possibly the most overrated work of modern fantasy that I have ever read. This first book is the best of the bunch, which speaks *volumes* about the quality of the rest of the series. If you are not willing to leap into an "epic" that will span 10,000 pages (with about 750 pages of actual story), stay away...stay far, far away.
Rating: Summary: The best series ever Review: I have read up to a path of dagger, i will start it soon, and i think that the whel of time is the best series of books ever!!!!! Even surpases starwars! (not in the movies (although a movie on the wheel of time would be dope))!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Stunningly good book. Review: Although I have been reading fantasy books for over ten years, somehow I never picked this series up. After MONTHS of nagging from an obsessed coworker, and after owning the book for four months, I sat down yesterday afternoon to read it. Guess what? A little over 24 hours later it was done. I could not put this book down. It's fabulous. I HIGHLY recommend it to any fantasy reader. I can't wait to pick up the next one.
Rating: Summary: I was disappointed Review: Jordan's language does not evoke the grandeur of Tolkein. I read 150 pages of this book and found several patches of poor writing. I gave up when I read the word "nervous-making."
Rating: Summary: The Best Fantasy Series Ever Written Review: " Once you enter Robert Jordan's world you will never want o leave"
Rating: Summary: Finally, one comes who can wear Tolkien's mantle Review: The best books are those who tell their story without allowing the reader to remember that he is reading. Jordan is a master at this; superb flow, pace, and character development epitomize the essence of good writing. An incredible world with complex problems reveals itself quickly and without confusion. It is amazing to me that Jordan was able to come up with all of the history and background and still tell this story at such a pace (approx. 1 book per year).
Rating: Summary: A saga of epic proportions Review: A saga of epic proprtions. The characters were very strong and almost seemed to evolve on their own as the novel progressed and the story proceeded to unfold. Rand al'Thor's character made an interesting metamorphosis from a naive neophyte to a responsible adult. This was very well done by Jordan, especially as the character only had a few weeks to make this prodigious change. Overall this book was excellent. Not to read it would be a travesty for fantasy novel writing around the world.
Rating: Summary: Great book, but not SO great Review: This book starts the popular Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, but it isn't so good as some of the later books in the series. In this book, Rand is the only character we get to know better. Mat, Perrin and others stay distant. Even so, the story is pretty good and intereresting.
Rating: Summary: anyone hear of J.r.r. tolkien? Review: Well i read this book and i am not pleased. Mr. Jordan tears apart what Tolkien created and filled it crap. Im sorry if i couldnt write a book that was at least a little original, i wouldnt write one at all. Unfortunatly Mr. Jordan has. Im sorry i cant recommend this book to anyone. Im also sorry i had to give it one star. It doesnt deserve it.
