Summary: Never mind Tolkien comparisons....
Review: This book is poor by any standard. The characters are utterly one-dimensional, and never rise above their initial stereotypes. Jordan's one or two ham-fisted attempts at character development fall completely flat, the motives behind the characters' actions entirely inexplicable. If you think Lord of the Rings is the only concept being shamelessly lifted, check your history, mythology, philosophy and literature again. It's almost an interesting game to try to spot all of the stolen concepts; although it would have been more challenging if Jordan had changed the names by more than one letter or an inserted apostrophe. I could even forgive recycling all these ideas if it was executed well; but that is definitely not the case here. More like someone making soup by dumping everything in the kitchen in a pot, from coffee to strawberries. One final criticism: the story could have been told as well, or better, in a third the pages. Apparently, like so many of us reviewers, Jordan likes to hear himself talk. Unfortunately, life is too short, and there are too many worthwhile books out there, to justify reading this. If all the glowing reviews compel you to read this book (as they did me), be sure to check your education at the door.

Summary: Beware...you are about to enter a real NEVER ENDING STORY...
Review: Ok. This book is EXCELLENT. So is the next book. The third book is not that excellent, but is just great. The fourth book is not great, but just good. The fifth book is not that good. Just ok. The sixth book is still ok. The seventh book is not even ok anymore. It's crap! And the eighth book, oh god. Well, lets just say, the eighth book is a terrible cruelty to trees. We live in a world where forests are shrinking, and we desperatly need to preserve our trees. We should not be wasting these precious trees publishing books like book eight of the "wheel of time", and probably books 9,10,11 (yet to be published,), and possibly even books 12,13,14,15,16,17, and so on until no one buys the books anymore or Jordan dies (projected year this series will end: 2025).Anyway, since this review is only for BOOK 1, I have given it 5 stars. But I have also tried to educate readers of what awaits them if they get sucked into the wheel of time.

Summary: The best fantasy book ive read!
Review: Im a great fan of science fiction and mostly Fantasy literature *Of course RPGs too*. This is, by far, the best Book of this type ive ever read. I havent read the whole 8, cause they arent transalated to spanush yet, but what if read ive found it AMAZING!! I recomend this book greatly to newcomers and mostly to fantasy literature fans. I give a a 10 out of 5.

Summary: What is the big deal?
Review: I know I am not supposed to ask that, lest I incur the wrath of Jordan zealots with their poorly spelled, overly-punctuated, loudly capitalized reviews. You've got to wonder what an author has to inspire almost Oprah-like devotion. I'm not sure it's talent, because while he is the best writer of the current bunch of Tolkein imitators (which is not necessarily heaping praise; Brooks and Goodkind are two of the most average writers around), he's fooling people with a huge marketing gimmick (Wheel of Time saga? Please, put it in thee volumes and think up something new) and fragmented, verbose plots with recycled themes and wooden characters. It's entertaining for what it is, a wordy fairy tale.

Summary: I like Jordan more than I should
Review: I cannot write a review as inspiring as one of the previous ones. The Wheel of Time series starts with an excellent book. In retrospect however, the first three books lack focus, as though Jordan couldn't decide exactly what he wanted to do. Unfortunately, as the series progresses, less and less happens in each successive book. In spite of all this, The Eye of the World still warrants four stars, I am a glutton for the characters and eagerly await each new release... I will give the series the best praise I can: I don't enjoy epic fantasy, but the Wheel of Time is one I have made an exception for. Critics are quick to point out the series seems unoriginal (one even charged it copies Star Wars, when in fact Star Wars itself is a hodgepodge of Japanese samurai philosophy coupled with the film styles of Kurosawa!), though just because some themes are tried and true doesn't mean we should dismiss them out of hand. The story of the eternal struggle between good and evil can still make for an entertaining read. Don't pick the first book up expecting highbrow literature, but enjoy it for what it is.

Summary: WARNING!!! Don't read this book until Jordan is done writing
Review: If you start reading this book now, YOU WILL BECOME OBSESSED! This book is the first in a long, great series. If you start reading The Wheel of Time series now, before Jordan is finished, you'll eventually catch up to him. This is the point at which the insanity begins. Waiting a year and a half for the next book to be published will drive you mad. These books are worse than heroin. So in summmary: Greatest Fantasy Epic ever written! Don't start reading them! (till Jordans done!)

Review: I am learnind disabled and did not lear to read untill I was 14, this was one of the first books that really drove me to read. It changed my life.

Summary: The greatest fantasy saga I have had the joy to read.
Review: There is a whole world with a multitude of cultures clashing with each other. An insight of what "good and evil" is to different perspectives. The characters truly come alive and my life is the richer for it. There is a sense of "being there" when I read it. It will push your emotions in various directions, and give you a broader viewpoint on your own morality. There is a momentum that is unstoppable, and you will find yourself riding the winds of it.

Summary: What a page turner, I couldn't put it down.
Review: This a fun book to read. Lots of description makes it a full and rich text and helps you get into the personalities of the various characters. This is definitley an epic. Even if I didn't know that there are some 7 or 8 more books, this one leaves you waiting for more. I am off to read Book 2, THE GREAT HUNT!

Review: I remember someone recommending this book, and I thought that there is no way I am ever going to be able to read it. This book is really long, but I was so captivated by the characters and story that I had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep. In fact, many times I fell asleep reading. Not saying it's a bad book. I just wanted to finish it and was so tired that my eyes gave out on me before my interest did. I loved this book. One of the best fantasy books ever written.
