Rating: Summary: Order and Read Them All Together Review: I've just finished book 8 in this series, and my 5-star mark recommends all of them without exception. However, there is one practical consideration I would like to share with people who are considering reading this book and the series as a whole: order all the books at the same time and be prepared to read them all in a row. If you are considering this series, you must have liked Tolkien's books, and that means that you are almost certain to like this series. Still, it is much more complicated and you would find it a problem keeping track of all the story lines and characters (there are new plot ramifications and new characters introduced even in book 8) unless you read them as one big book. I could not start book 8 earlier than two weeks after I finished book 7 because it was not available when I ordered the first 7, and I found it a bit of a problem recollecting some of the characters, though I had not had any problems of the kind before. The story doesn't really divide into books as they are released; you could break them down into smaller installments (the way they've done with the German translations, e.g.) or consolidate several books into one. There are no culminations at the end of each book; every ending is a cliff-hanger. One of the books opens, e.g., with the same battle scene the previous one ended with--only this time shown from the point of view of the other side. The last point: at the end of book 8 the story doesn't show any sign of ending, and the series could be good for dozens of books more. Personally, after finishing the 8 books available, I'll wait for all the remaining books to be in before resuming reading--one-year breaks are too much to swallow.
Rating: Summary: WHERE DID IT ALL go WRONG? Review: Recently i read back on this series. After the last couple of book in it, i had forggoten how truly good the first few are. This, great hunt, dragon reborn, and the 4th book are terrific. Unfortunatley, the series took a complete nosedive after that. nevertheless, i recommend this book and the series.
Rating: Summary: great read Review: this was a great book all around, and left me craving to read further books in the series.
Rating: Summary: This book was great. Review: Robert Jordan's a great writer and this book entrapped me untill i was done with it. Tolkien as always been my favorite fantasy writer and still is but Robert Jordan soars above all others for his originality and not just giving Tolkien's works new names and such.
Rating: Summary: AWSOME BOOK, BUT NOT FOR THE WEAK MINDED OR SLOW WITTED Review: ASTOUNDING, LOVED IT, CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE. DO HAVE SOME OTHER COMMENTS. WELL, I HAVE JUST SAT HERE AND READ A FEW OF THE REVIEW, WELL ABOUT 100 OR SO. AND WHILE THERE SEEMS TO BE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT OF THIS BOOK THERE ALSO SEEMS TO BE THE CRITISISM OF THE FEW. THOSE WHO WERE CRITICAL OF THE BOOK SEEM TO BE OF THE TYPE WHO CAN BARELY REMEBER THEIR FIRST NAME WHEN THEY GET TO THIER LAST IN A SENTANCE. THIS BOOK, WHILE BEING ONE OF THE SLOWEST IN THE SERIES SETS THE MIND UP TO EMBRACE THIS WORLD AS IF IT WERE YOUR OWN. I MUST ADMIT THAT I HAVE NEVER READ TOLKEIN OR ANY OF THE STAR WARS BOOKS AS SOME SEEM TO BE COMPARING HIM TOO. I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIES HOWEVER AND COMEON PEOPLE. EVERY WRITER LEARNS FROM THE BOOKS THAT HE HAS GROWN UP ON, EVERY ARTIST GETS HIS INPIRATION SOMEWHERE. IF SOME PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE SHARP ENOUGH MINDS TO FOLLOW THIS VERY INTRICATE PLOT THEN JUST ADMIT IT AND DON'T DOWN THE BOOK BECAUSE YOUR NOT SMART ENOUGH TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. I PERSONALLY LOVED THE BOOK AND THE ENTIRE SERIES WHICH I HAVE READ THROUGH 3 TIMES COMPLETELY AND A COUPLE MORE TIMES WITH JUST A FEW OF THE BOOKS. THESE CHARACTERS HAVE BECOME LIKE A FAMILY AND I REMEMBER EVERY NUANCE AND DETAIL SO EVERYTHING FITS IN MY MIND. ABSOLUTLY AMAZING SERIES. AWAITING THE NEXT BOOK EAGERLY.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional: An instant classic Review: A truly engaging piece of fantasy and the start of a wonderful series for Mr.Jordan!
Rating: Summary: Eye of the World is a cleverly written and very enjoyable. Review: Eye of the World is a cleverly written novel that provides an enjoyable reading experience. Jordan uses extremely deep characters, you will not beable to bring put this novel down. When Rand gets hurt I felt his pain. This is one of the most descriptive books I have ever read. I would recommend this book to anyone except my worst enemies.
Rating: Summary: I like this book, it's different that's why I like it. Review: I loved this book, I thought the characters in it were very creative. I liked this more than most other fantasy novels because it has different creatures than, say, elves or ogres. It pits the characters in different adventures other than to just kill the "bad guy". But what I really like is when you think you know where Mat, Rand, Perrin, or Egwene are going to end up the story just switches tracks.
Rating: Summary: this book is great! Review: I loved this book. It has a great story line. I thought it was funny the way Lan kept bribing everyone.
Rating: Summary: Abridgement ruins novel Review: While the book is fantastic, this abridged version is missing to many vital details to follow. The listenter cannot even follow the storyline, much less grasp the richness of the world Jordan builds. A 30 hour story is smashed into a 3 hour reading, and it just doesn't work. I highly reccomend the Wheel Of Time series, but not the abridged audio-tapes. I would strongly reccomend either reading the book, or finding an unabridged version of the audio book. --- jds
