Summary: Standard Story Starts off Slow but Picks up: BUT BE WARNED
Review: I have two parts to my review of this book: The first is that Eye of the World starts rather slow and picks up to the point where it becomes an excellent story, if very standard. (youth in village leave on quest,led by a spell caster of power: hhhm, sounds like Tolkein, eh?) The characters are great and develop in very clear and wonderful ways. Jordan shows a great eye for characters.The second part of my review is to be careful. Jordan's latest books in the series are terrible by comparison and do a great injustice to the first books in the series. Please do yourself a favor and read the reviews for Crown of Swords and Path of Daggers before picking up this book. My feeling is that after the great disappointment in Jordan's lack of pacing and storytelling, I WOULD NOT start this series. You are warned.

Summary: Eye of the World
Review: Many have compared Robert Jordan to Tolkien, but he can only truly be compared in vision. Both have aspired to--and achieved--the creation of a deep, believable, world. Robert Jordan is by no doubt a genius in his storytelling, and the story twists and turns in ways that are almost always unpredictable. His characters are not "super-heroes". Each has very real weaknesses, but also strengths. At first, these strengths are not realized. As you progress in the story, however, you come to see a maturing in the characters that is not readily apparent with a casual glance through the book. Jordan has only dissapointed me in his lack of mastery of the english language. There are grammatical errors through his books, but nothing that leaves glaring criticisms. Many can be attributed to his style, and easily overlooked. However, sometimes run-on sentences or the occaisional poor formed word (Rand "sneaked" atop a small rise?) take away from what would otherwise be completely masterful. I will conclude with a congratulation to Jordan for his excellent work. I would reccomend this book to any fan of Tolkien who is searching desperately for another involving, complex, world. An epic story that will surprise, challenge, and entertain you.

Review: This begining is the best in series of any kind. I've never read a book/series so vivid, clear, and complete.

Summary: STUNNING! One of the best books in my collection.
Review: From the first chapter Robert Jordan captured my complete and total devotion. One might think that is an exageration, but the vivid character creation, the masterfully created plot, the breathtaking landscape, all combine to make him the leading fantasy writter of this last 20 years. Rand's journeys makes us forget for awhile the monotony of daily life, taking our imaginations to new heights, starting a ride that is difficult to leave once started, but everything comes to an end......or not, because Jordan fortunatly remembered the poor readers anguished cries for more and he delivered, so if you read this book, cry out in joy because there are 7 more waiting for you, all has good as this one.

Summary: hmm..not exactly a 5
Review: the reason why i didn't give this book a five is because i felt that there were a few major flaws that were annoying ( at least to me). the portrayal of the women for example, while it is nice to see a male author giving females strong roles, its only at the expense of laughing at the poor, bumbling men. i mean who wants a hero that is kind of a wuss? and rand al'thor is, in my opinion, a wuss. the supposed 'love story' of rand and egwene didn't interest me at all, all the ' aw you lughead men' comments irked me. the story and the style was excellent, the characters needed some rounding out ( i still don't understand why lan was , seemed like, ' all of a sudden' in love with nyneave) which i know happens a little bit at a time with each book. the aes sedai and the whole concept of the dragon really intrigued me. all in all, this was a rather good book ( for epic fantasy) with some fascinating elements, but also some annoying ones. the annoying ones aren't so bad as to detract from the general story so that's why i gave it a four instead of five.

Summary: Jordan's flavor add spice to fantasy world!
Review: I too am a long time Tolkien fan, and I'm only 17, and usually when I come across a fantasy novel, it seems to be a copy of the same basic plot originated by early masters such as Tolkien and Lewis. Jordan, however has a distict flavor to his writing that invigorates my imagination. Several things that spark my interest include the introduction of new, interesting, creatures that that both pursue our heros (and heroines) and befriend them, solid kingdoms that are well established and have personal and political interactions that are hinted at, and the detail of Jordan's writing is so fine, you can imagine being in the midst of them. I also enjoyed the fact that "magic" is only slide of hand, but there are people able to call upon power to aid them. I enjoyed most of all the fact that the evil force the group is fighting actually has interactions with them. I recommend this book to any lover of fantasy, whatever your convictions are, and don't forget the rest of the series, the fun just doen't stop here!

Summary: It Took My Breath Away!
Review: First of all, I gotta say that I'm a fan of Tolkien. I have been reading reviews and I've heard many people saying that Robert Jordan imitates Tolkien. Well, I don't understand what everybody is saying, I don't agree. Although Tolkien is a turning point in fantasy, he didn't invent it. Look at many other fantasy writers, like Terry Brooks. Brooks uses the creatures that Tolkien used, but Jordan doesn't! Jordan creates a whole different world in the Wheel of Time series. Actually, I like Jordan's works so much that I'm comfortable to say that Jordan is just as good as Tolkien, if not better. . . Well, let's get to the first installment of The Wheel of Time series: "The Eye Of The World". I first learned about this book from a person I met. We got into talking about books and he mentioned the Wheel of Time series. About a week later I saw The Eye of the World on the shelves in the library. I decided I'd give it a try. I started the book a couple of weeks later. I picked it up and started reading. . . reading. . . and reading. I was hooked from the start. I got to about page one hundred and I was forced to put it down due I had to get some sleep. This book thrilled me. The characters are believable and you actually care about them. The worlds are polished and full of life. I'm defiantly going to keep reading the Wheel of Time series. Keep cookin' Jordan!

Summary: A Fantasy Masterpiece
Review: _The Wheel of Time_ far surpasses the majority of the fantastical genre. I was immediately entranced by the detailed introduction to the scenery and charaters. The story has a depth to it wich many authors cannot achieve. The plot follows the character of Rand Al'Thor, a naive young sheepherder who is dragged into a world he thought was only an old wive's tale. Rand, his companions, and a enigmatic Aes Sedai and her Warder all stand together in the battle against the Dark One, Shai'tan. The second and third books are similarly captivating, allowing you to see this adventure through the eyes of other important charaters. But as the saga continues, the detials become cloying, and slow the story down.

Review: I love this book, finished it recently. I must say, this is a book that is very deep and believable. Historical accuracy to Medieval times from a fantasy perspective. I must say, I thought this book was boring at first, but that was because I didn't understand. I had to force myself to read to page 50, after that, I couldn't PUT THE BOOK DOWN. addictive
