Rating: Summary: Coming back to them again.. Review: Having read the Wheel of TIme series through book 9, and also reading the Sword of Truth series, as well as several others such as George RR Martin's current.. I still have to say that the Wheel of Time is excellent. I think that the Sword of Truth series has a LOT of similarities early on to the Wheel series.. but it has enough differences to make it a moot point. I truly enjoyed the Wheel of Time, as it reached cult proportions in the corporation I work at. I myself have a very large library of literature, and as it is.. it isn't Tolkien... But it does take you close to the characters like Tolkien does. You truly feel for all the trials and tribulations they go through. And cant wait for the next book to come along. If we could get Mr Jordan to progress with the series.. I am sure he would have many a happy fan. If you find the book somewhat slow in parts.. dont despair.. it is worth the read, as are all the others in the series. Some may be slower.. but there is a lot of plot and intrigue that must be read to not miss important details. It is well worth the time. And on this note, I re-open The Eye of the World, to begin my re-reading of the series.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Fantasy Romp Review: The adventure of Rand, Mat, and Perrin is humorous, colorful, and quite entrancing. As they move from city to city in their journeys, they encounter a plethora of characters, each worthy of a tale themselves. The scenery and surrounding atmosphere are described expertly, and the fear and intrigue of innocent boys being placed in a such a large role; while being hunted by "Evil"; is told in a way to make even the monsters seem real. The book is long, but quite enjoyable, and I found myself only a bit tired of the travels between chapters 30 and 40. However, that feeling added to the sense in the story that the three boys were tired of traveling themselves. The tale was one of the best fantasy books I have read, and I look forward to beginning the next book in Jordan's series, although I don't dare begin it unless I will have a good week to really enjoy the story as well time to finish it. If you have not read Jordan's books, I definitely recommend it to those who love fantasy and the "old world" One note about the format - this series would do well to be published in electronic format, since the paperback was almost too thick to be read comfortably, and the first few pages fell out almost as soon as I opened the book to a comfortable reading position. However, for this I cannot fault the author, only the publishers. If I were to purchase the book again,I would definitely go for the hardcover edition.
Rating: Summary: OVERALL SCORE: (A-) Review: WARNING! This series is now more than 10 books long, each about 900 pages, and must be read in order due to multiple complicated plot themes. The first three books of the series are great, so are a couple of the others, a few are very dull and mediocre, and some are really, really bad! OVERALL SCORE: (A-) READABILITY: (A+), PLOT: (B), CHARATERS: (A), DIALOGUE: (B-), SETTING: (B+), ACTION/COMBAT: (C+), MONSTERS/ANTAGONISTS: (B+), ROMANCE: (C-)..., AGE LEVEL: (PG)
Rating: Summary: Snooze central Review: I have no idea how this sereies became popular, i'm still puzzled over how it got published. This book attempts to be Tolkien or BeoWulf, and fails horribly. Invisible plot, paper thin 'characters', and a thorough inablity ro describe anything in a consise manner.
Rating: Summary: Just try it Review: Yes, this first book can be slow and the series is long, but if you want to be taken on a magnificent journey through rich literature then this is the series to try. If you just want a quick fix then this is not for you. I am a very busy person, but I have made time for this series because it is simply wonderful!
Rating: Summary: sweet Review: one of the best bokks ever written, unbelivable.
Rating: Summary: It pulled me in to the series and i just keep reading Review: I started this series with a prejudice against it because I had already read most of Tolkein's books, but that has all changed. I started thinking it was just a rip-off of Tolkein with the Myrddraal-huge resemblance to a Nazgul, but it has become completely different. They dont go on a quest to destroy a ring. Their quest turns into an endless waltz in my opinion, which is very interesting in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Totally Awesome Review: I'm a fantasy fanatic and the Wheel of Time series is BY FAR the best i've read ever! So what if it's long? Rober Jordan pulls you into the world of the characters and you want to hold on to it when the time comes you have to put the book down. You feel like you really know the characters, you can feel their spines tingle and their nerves teeter on the edge of collapse. You can feel their frustration, their pain, their joy. There's nothing like it. And the complicated web of plots and plans that spins constantly becoming more and more intricate with every word until everything is so intertwined that one plot and the other seem to be woven together until they seem to be one. As a writer I say Jordan is better than Tolkien and can you name one fantasy book that doesn't follow Lord of the Rings in the tiniesy bit? I had to struggle through The Hobbit because of the slow parts but Jordan ensures there is no slow part that you have to force yourself to read.
Rating: Summary: A good start, but WAAAAAAY to long Review: I read this book and liked it a lot. If he had not decided to write this book again, 10 times, I would have been happy. As it stands you could save yourself a lot of trouble by just realizing these few things: 1. The women in this world glare/stare at men ALOT! Often while crossing their arms under their brests. 2. The men in this world are inexplicably disconcerted by this staring. Maybe it is the arm-crossing. I don't know. 3. Aes Sedai are women who use magic. (Could explain 1 and 2 above, but not all women can use magic, but 1 and 2 apply to them all) 4. Warders are dangerous, they work for Aes Sedai, they have wavy, magical cloaks, and they are VERY dangerous. They also move with a "cat-like" grace. If you like reading about braid tugging, cat-like warders (who are very dangerous), arm crossing, staring women, uncomfortable men, wavy magic cloaks, and how "The Dragon" will eventually break the world, then this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: You have GOT to read this series!!! Review: When I found out this book got less then it deserved, I just had to write my own review. This is more of a review for the series instead of the first book, but The Wheel of Time is one of the best series I have ever stumbled upon! Filled with action, fantasy, and romance, this story sucks you right in. With a plot that is not only original, but also contains excitement and thrill. I am a fast reader, I can finish a average size book in two days. This is sometimes an asset, but when it comes to fantasy, I want to make it last! So I especially recommend it for fast readers, because with 9 large books, you can sink into the world of the Wheel of Time series for a long time.
