Rating: Summary: a never ending story..... Review: I read the first 5 books and I was very astonished to find out that there are 7 more books (in german translation). I think it is one of the best fantasy stories i ever read but i think also that Jordan should find the end. May be that number 12 is the deliverance for Rand al'Thor and his friends.
Rating: Summary: Simply the best. Review: Simply the absolute best Christmas gift you can give a fantasy fiction fan on your shopping list. Even better than giving some one Frodo's email address!
Rating: Summary: The first book of the best book ever written. Review: Unlike others I will only do a small review because no matter how much you write you cannot do it justice. Simply put if you enjoy fantasy you HAVE to read this novel. It is simply the first book of the best series I have ever read. No if's and's or but's.
Rating: Summary: What a Great Book!!!!! Review: The only reason I rate this book a 9, is because I've read the rest of the series. When I bought the book, the person who recommended it to me said it took 100 pages to get into. Not true... it took me 12, then I finished it in a night, got all the rest of the books in the series, and was done in a week. This is the kind of epic fantasy that absorbs the reader into its world, the kind of stories that blend into an entire universe that replays itself in your mind. I've read this book over 20 times. The Eye of the World has wonderful plot & character development, and is the work of a master storyteller.
Rating: Summary: this book began a long wonderful and fantastic trip for me. Review: I've read this book twice, as well as all the other six books that followed. I first read this book when I was flying to England on vacation a few years age. If you want to enjoy a fantasy. novel, England is the greatest setting for it. Robert Jordan took me straight to the Inn where the first meeting took place and with his ever expanding story line carried me to the Great Hall then onto a dream world that actually felt realistic. I am anxiously awaiting the eighth book in this series. HURRY UP!! Thank you ,Robert Jordan .
Rating: Summary: Jordan's " Eye of the World" creates a rich, vibrant world Review: In all honesty I bought the first book in the Wheel of Time Series blind: I had heard no reviews, nor knew anyone at the time who had read it, or even knew what it was about. I bought it because it was long, and I figured that some rainy day I would want to snuggle in with a good long book and read the day away. So i brought it home, stuck it in my bookcase, and there it sat, getting dusty, for a long time. Oh, sure, a couple of times I had read the first few paragraphs of the Prologue, but it seemed such an effort to read with its many, many, pages and really tiny print. As fate would have it though, one day I desperately wanted something to read and the only thing in the entire bookcase that I had not read yet was "The Eye of the World". I cautiously removed it from the shelf, and made a promise to myself to give it at least 50 pages. The Prologue is very strange and mysterious, with obscure references and details that add to the intrigue. It is a strong start for the story, and makes you eager to read more. The start of the book is very detailed and a bit slow, but it gradually got my interest through clever plotting and foreshadowing. I did think that there was almost too much detail, but what I realized was that the writing style was very visual: I had very clear images of the characters and locations that were being described. After 30 or 40 pages you have a clear picture of what is going to happen in the next 100 pages or so, and then like a bolt of lightning the book takes you in a direction that you were never expecting. I was hooked. The plot develops quickly and satisfingly from there on. There are a lot of plot twists and complications that you never expect. I found myself continually trying to guess ahead of the book and was consistently wrong. One thing that impressed me the most were just the concepts that are presented. Jordan creates a new world, rife with its own history and customs. The peeople in the book, even minor characters, are three dimensional and complicated. Who is good and who is bad is always up to debate. But most of all it was just so visual, I remenber it like a movie as much as a book, but does not read at all like typical movie adaptations, but rather as pretty solid literature. Jordan keeps you engrossed fully until the last 100 pages or so and then the novel really soars. It is exciting, and surprising and in the end exhilirating. I have read many authors who start a good story and develop it well, but then have it fizzle at the end. Not Jordan. His greatest strength is the ending, and I feel that they are the best endings of books that I have ever read. Needless to say, after the first I threw myelf head first into the remaining books and they never disappoint. Reading the other books in the series makes you appreciate the series even more as you realize how consistent, and thought out the progression is. There are no logic errors or sudden changes in the story that do not make sense. (As an aside, for those of you who have read the books and think that it was intended to end at book three, read the Prologue form the first book again and you will find that that is not true, or refer to Min's viewings in Baerlon.) They are my favorite books. I give the first one a 9 only because the second one is even better. The series is heartily recommended to anyone who likes a deep well thought out and exciting tale. Bravo S
Rating: Summary: come to the point... Review: LOOONG book, short review. Well, yes this book features a very detailed world and there is a lot going on, but it could have used some better drawn-out characters and Mr. Jordan could need an editor with a really sharp razor-blade: To quote a famouse review of a Michener book: Don't let this book fall on your foot! In short: Worth reading, but only for people with a lot of time and even more patience.
Rating: Summary: Makes reading fantasy worthwhile again Review: Over a year ago wy wife read Eye of the World and suggested it to me. I reluctantly picked it up believing that no fantasy novel could ever meet my "Tolkienesque" expectations. Wrong! I was swept up into this first book, with its reluctant heroes and strong female characters, as well as the sheer evil of its "Shadowspawn". Jordan writes in rich descriptive text. . .just when you think he's rambling about something - watch out! -if you weren't paying attention it's off to the glossary and back a hundred pages to revisit an event and unfold the next Darkfriend plot! I am quite hooked and in the past several months have gotten to book 6 in the series. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Oddly enough... Review: This text is in reference to 'The Eye of the World,' and not the rest of the series. If you enjoy reading fantasy in the least, you should give this book a shot. Jordan's eye for detail is marvelous, if you like that kind of thing. He does get long-winded sometimes, but grin, bear it, and you will be rewarded. He develops the characters masterfully, and leaves you wanting to find out what happens in the next book. I read the guidelines for this, but just can't help commenting on some other reviews. Comparisons are pointless. Every writer has their own unique style, no matter how close to others it may seem. Tolstoy, Tolkien, Shakespeare, Ann Rice, whoever. Every writer is unique. This is important to remember when reading this book. It's not for everyone, but everyone who likes, loves, or is just getting into fantasy reading should definately give this book (and series) a read.
Rating: Summary: Robert Jordan is the master of Gleemen Review: I have never read Tolken but I think I will when I am done with tWoT. This is the best it get's. The first book is the begining and it sets the seen, so hey it is called "the build up" for the rest of the series. I am verry impresed and verry addicted
