Rating: Summary: This One Is Great, But Be Prepared For A Marathon Review: In fact, this book isn't the best of the series. It's pretty damn good, though, and should encourage you to read more. I must warn you, though - the series is at a low point right now. I think the early books are worth it, but if you're looking for closure, look elsewhere. God knows when Jordan plans to wrap things up.
Rating: Summary: You'll devour it! Review: First of all, don't be fooled by the cover. I was! I thought this book would be extremely boring, but I vowed to read it anyway since it was a gift. I was happily surprised! This book is like Lord of the Rings, but even better. It has a slow start and honestly it kind of went on and on in some parts, but it was definitely worth it. I promise you, you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: you have to read this!!! Review: These books are THE BEST books out there. Even better than Tolkien...if that's possible. They are what fantasy is about; they have EVERYTHING!!!!! And even when outrageous things happen, they're written in a way that makes them seem more realistic. Robert Jordan has a way of making the story scary, funny, breathtaking, heartstopping and mysterious all at once...He has created a world with complex cultures, customs, and peoples; a world so intricate and detailed that you can't help but fall in love with it. Everyone i've recomended these books to has LOVED them, and you probably will to. so ORDER THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Probably my favorite series Review: I absolutely adore this book to no end. But i must say, it takes a person who enjoys reading for the reading and the adventures and the detail to read this, not someone who loves action. Sure there is a lot of action in this but it goes into detail in great lengths. Everything in it interests me in some way and overall i love the book. I am on the 6th book in the series at the moment and this one was one of the best. One of the things that stands out the most for me was Moiraine being thrown against the tree and when Rand fell into Elaynes garden. Great writing! Robert Jordan has a way of capturing your mind and filling it with detail and interesting you. Though i must say you have to think about it when you read, unlike the Harry Potter books.Characters Mat - I enjoyed him enough. He's not one of my favorite characters but i think he jumps to conclusions a little too much Egwene - annoying. She was Okay in this book but she gets awful towards the 4 or 5th book (which i think was already mentioned) and just annoys me to no end Perrin - decent. Hes not my favorite character, probably the one who bores me the most. (Did anyone else find it odd that he was not mentioned once in the Fires of Heaven?) Lan - I must say I really like him. Hes mysterious and you need to figure him out. He reminds me of someone I know. Rand - very interesting character. Unique and loving but at the same time strong. Great character. Moiraine - One of the best. Strong and not afraid to show it. She is one who you cna trust. Nynaeve - She ties with Moiraine as my favorite female character. Stubborn to no end. Except i really didnt like her till the end of this book. Tom - Fun yet stubborn and always willing to prove a point Great book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Major plot development in the first book. Very readable, and hard to put down. If you like fantasy at all, buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Cliche, slow but descriptive Review: It has been a long time since I read this book. I bought it based upon the reviews and I'm not sorry I did. Now I know to be wary of Jordan. Like I said, it has been a long time since I read it but I do remember very much that, overall, I really didn't enjoy it. It was slow and more than a little cheesy and so cliche. It was very descriptive, however. Jordan does have an eye for detail but the detail put in was just too much, which affected the pace of book dramatically. I suggest, however, that you try the first book at least. If you like it, great! If you don't like it then you can pass in on to someone you don't like. I suggest everyone read "A Song of Ice and Fire", if they're looking for a good fantasy epic. Ciao.
Rating: Summary: Blunt, Stretched and Flawed Review: As I'm sure happened with most of the readers of this fantasy, I was misled by the unusual hype and bulk liking by the majority of readers. I bought the first three books (the usual number of books which I read before I decide to continue with a series). After taking a whole week for me to finish that book, which is a record hit since I usually finish 3 books per week, regardless of length, I was left with a prolonged story that featured a slow plot, and slower character development if any. The world was dark, even gray at times. The characters, especially women, are usually not what you call human beings but rather walking talking puppets. I couldn't bring myself to even remotely care about Rand al'Thore or any of the other characters at this book. Regardless of the fact that most of the first was a rip-off of Tolkien's trilogy (which I also did not like), the first installment of Wheel of Time was a complete failure to me. Next I came to the second and third isntallments. As expected, the series just kept getting worse and worse. It took Jordan two books to display a simple of trace of character development, which was too mild to sense since the plot kept getting slower and slower. I must commend the language of this book, which reflects a background in Medieval literature, however the rest of the books is simply tedious. Do not read unless you like to think your life through while reading.
Rating: Summary: Very good......BUT Review: Basically, the book (and it's sequels) are very well written and enjoyable and I'd give it a 4 or a 5. But it's just too LONG! Enough is enough already! He should have wrapped it up after 5 books maximum. With each new volume, my interest waned to the point that I haven't bought the last few and I have no interest in what happened or will happen.
Rating: Summary: Good, but derived Review: As of writing this I have not read much epic fantasy other than the Lord of the Rings. The EoTW is written well, not the best, but Jordan has a decent command of language skills. The basic plot is very similer to the Lord of the Rings, complete with black riders, orc like creatures, a magician type, a white-towered city far off, Mountains of Mist, a geography calling for lawsuits, etc. The characters and places are weakly named. Imagine a Fellowship of the Ring in which once the characters get to Bree, they then go on to another Bree, and then to another and another. That is what this is, but Jordan adds alot of character into the storyline, which keeps it interesting. Half of me wants to cringe in blasphemy and the other is very pleased with the results.
Rating: Summary: 10 books from great to awful Review: The first few books of this series are immensely exciting. The new worlds and players are full of wonder, imagination, quirks, personalities, etc. The magic is amazing and the strangeness of many cultures is well written. The characters are great and the history of cultures and magic exceptionally well done. However, by the time you get to book 7 or 8, Robert Jordan has run out of gas. The story is monotonous. Its the same 100 pages shuffled and dealt out again over and over. All the creative skill is gone, he simply has nothing to say that he hasn't said repetitively. And the magic fizzles out too. He spends all his time in book 10 --yes the story doesn't even end in book 10 -- belaboring how Aes Sedai scheme and back bite, how the Wise ones are arrogant and strict, how the Aiel are a weird American Indian-like nomadic culture, and how the main characters are in love and want to wring each other's neck. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over andover and over and over 10 volumes is a long time to drag out any story. Jordan should have concluded this series back around book 5 or 6 at the latest. But here we are 10 years later in volume 10 going in monotonous circles. Jordan: Finish it. Write the last book. Get over it. Go learn from the truly great fantasy writers -- every book in a series has a conclusion in it and the possibility for a sequel. Otherwise, 3 books is the limit to a story. Wheel of TIme is now one long devious scheme to get us to buy pulp to get to an ending that never comes. Don't buy this book. If you must read it, borrow it from the library. Its even possible to completely skip book 10 and not miss a thing. Buying it serves no purpose since you will NEVER read it a second time. Too much pulp, not enough story.
