Rating: Summary: Love can overcome all ! Review: For anyone who has gotten this far down, please ignore what the Editorial review of the book is. It's completely off. This book is one that I read as a 12 and 13 year old, but forgot about until now in my mid-twenties. It is a story for the romantics at heart, of any age. Ellen is starting off her freshman year of high school. Her older brother Brad has just graduated and was well liked by the school, however she isn't feeling much pressure to live up to him because she is a star runner and honors student. Three days into the year the school forces her into taking a tour of the school, which she grudgingly does, when low and behold her tour is being led by the schools top swimmers, Michael Tyler. She falls hard for the guy, even though there is no chance of a relationship. The rest of the book follows Ellen through the next two and a half years of her life, with all of the ups and downs that come with having her first love. She grows and changes through the book, especially through her relationships with her friends. She is a strong character with good friends and a good heart. That is why I have always loved this book. I would encourage tyring to find this book and read it, along with Mary Francis Shura's other ones. (The Sunfire books are excellent!)
Rating: Summary: Best Book Review: I am 15 years old and I read this book last year in the winter time, I could relate to what she was going through, She saw her crush with his girlfriend and wanting to be that girl! I had a BIG crush on this guy who was 17 at the time On the weekends when I would read the book it would be snowing outside and I could hear the rumbling of a loud truck then I hopped out of bed and it was him..my crush, he was going 4-wheeling in the snow. I didn't ever actually talk to him until like 2 months after that, He didn't even know I existed until then. I still have a crush on him, I've kissed him before just like Ellen did with Micheal but he liked it. I dont think it meant much to him but it sure did me!!!!! At the end of the book, he comes to her and confesses that he likes her and at that part I cried saying to myself " What if Brody (my crush) doesn't like me at all?" What if I never get to go out with him?" One of my friends told me that he does like me it's just that I'm 15 and he's 18. But I guess I'm gonna have to wait a few years just like Ellen. Bye!
Rating: Summary: This book is absolutely wonderful! Review: I am 20 years old and have read this book five times. I recommend it to everyone. It touches your heart every time you read it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written book! Enjoy it every time! Review: I am 22 years old now, but I first read the book as a junior in high school. I found I could easily relate to Ellen's dilemma; her character, along with those of her friends, family, and acquaintances, was well-developed and real. I felt I was experiencing every joy and sorrow with her. To give some idea of how much I enjoyed this book (even if I haven't read it in a few years), I'll just say that during my junior and senior years, I read the book an average of twice a week, and I never grew bored with it! Great book! Mary Francis Shura is a great model to keep in mind for an amateur author such as myself!
Rating: Summary: Oh, to be 14 again.... Review: I encountered this book in junior-high as a gawky, awkward teen, and found the "Bible" of sorts that helped me manage. Sure, it might seem sappy and soap-opera-esqe to older readers, but to a skinny little bookworm who peered hopelessly at her crush over the pages, it meant the world. The idea that the good girl always wins, that happy endings did come to those who wait gave me hope, and a ray of conifidence at a time when girls need it most. Books are designed to bring joy and understanding to your world, and this book certainly did so to mine. As for me, well, I might still be a geeky bookworm, but at least I know that I'm writing a happy ending.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I first read this book back in 1992 (although in England it was called'Summer Dreams, Winter Love') and I still love it. I'm 24 now and it was so good to read other reviews and know that other girls responded to it like I did. I thought Ellen was a great character for young girls to connect with. She's strong, funny and a good friend. Of course Michael was an easy character to fall for - I mean come on who wouldn't fall for him, I found myself longing for my Michael to come along. This book is timeless, as we will all continue to go through our teen years with the problems these charaters face and these problems will mold us into who we become.
Rating: Summary: the love story to come back to Review: i first read this book when i was 12, and i still go back and get it out from the library - it's the classic love story, one that can be read again and again, one that never tires, no matter how much you read.
Rating: Summary: WINTER DREAMS CHRISTMAS LOVE Review: I first read this book when I was 14 years old, just like Ellen Marlowe therefore I felt I could relate to what was happening in her life as a similar situation was occuring in mine. She is a strong protagonist and has great fighting spirit throughout the story and is very inspirational. I think many teenage girls look up to her as a role model and she gives out the message that we should NEVER lose hope no matter what anyone says or how bad things get. 3 years down the line I am still reading this book and it is just as good. A classic novel!
Rating: Summary: This book is a master piece!! Review: I read this book in 9th grade ( in Sep. three months ago) and i ended up loving this book. This book has inspired me in so many ways that, I wont say that the things that were happening to her were happening to me but in Sep. also there was a senior guy who liked me and i him but there was the age difference and he ended up w/ my cusin. well i was crushed! So i in a way understood what Ellen was going through. I have recomended this book to all of my friends and we all ended up the same crying so hard that we had to take a shower after! Well my point is that this book is a book that anyone will appreciate. Read it!
Rating: Summary: One of the most adorable books I've ever read Review: I read this book when I was about 13 years old and after all these years I still think back to the first time I read it and how lovely Ellen's story was. This story was the sweetest cutest thing I could ever of hoped to find in a book. Just thinking of the book makes me smile and sometimes teary eyed. I might sound like a complete nutcase but this book is just plain wonderful. I guarantee that it will become a long lasting favorite. Buy it for your daughter, niece yourself! you wont regret it.
