Summary: This is an awesome book!
Review: "The Two Princesses of Bamarre" is totally awesome in every way. I especially loved the main character, Addie, who is timid and shy, not at all like Levine's main characters. I also loved the selections from Drualt! I wish there was a collection of Drualt! This is one of the best written, most wonderful books on the planet!!!!

Summary: Levine returns!
Review: Gail Levine returns to the terrain that she does best, strong and intelligent princesses -- only here she expands her terrain. After the so-so outing of "The Wish" and the delightful but all-too-short Princess stories, fans of "Ella Enchanted" will not be disappointed!

The bubonic plague of Bamarre is the Gray Death, killing anyone it touches. While shy Princess Addie merely wishes to remain where she is, brave Princess Meryl is determined to save Bamarre from the Gray Death. Though the sisters are as different as day and night, they love each other a great deal.

But as hard as Meryl tries to save Bamarre, she falls ill with the dread disease. Addie must set off on a quest to save their kingdom -- and her beloved sister. Her innate shyness and retiring nature must be overcome before the exciting end of the adventure. Her characterizations are spot-on, especially Addie. She manages to portray a quiet, retiring young girl in a sympathetic light, without making her seem pathetic or weak. The male lead, Rhys, is strong but not overbearing, kind and very, very cool.

Levine's evocative writing style has matured further from "Ella Enchanted," becoming more flowing and poetic in the dialogue and descriptions. But, like "Ella," we are given very human kingdoms mixed with otherworldly beasts and creatures, dragons and spectors and griffins and so forth.

If you are one of the many girls (women, men, boys...) who cheer for strong heroines, then pick up this book immediately!

Summary: An enchanting new fantasy novel.
Review: Sixteen-year-old Addie and her sister Meryl are the two daughters of the king of Bamarre, a magical kingdom. Years ago, they lost their mother to the Gray Death, a horrible disease that strikes suddenly and with no hope of recovery. Now brave, adventurous Meryl hopes to grow up to have great adventures and, most especially, to find a cure for the Gray Death. Unlike her older sister, shy Addie is timid and afraid. Yet it is Meryl who falls ill with the Gray Death. When their father does little to help Meryl, Addie decides that although she may never be brave, she must do all she can to save the sister who always swore she would be the one to become a hero. With the help of Rhys, a young sorcerer, Addie sets out on her quest, which will take her through forests of specters and ogres, across rivers and deserts, and to the lair of a deadly dragon. Addie must summon every ounce of courage within herself if she is to save her sister and her kingdom before it is too late. This was a wonderful fantasy novel. Although born to be timid, shy, and fearful, Addie was a character with hidden strengths that her love for her sister was able to bring out in her. I highly reccomend this book.

Summary: THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I love this book. Meryl and Addie are two princesses in the kingdom of Bamarre, a magical land full of dragons, spectors, ogres, sorcerers, and more. Meryl, the braver of the two sisters, has a dream to fight the evil creatures that are attacking Bamarreans until the land is safe. Addie, however, just wants to stay as far away from spiders as possible. That is, until Meryl gets the grey death. Nobody who has gotten the gray death has lived, and nobody will unless "cowards find courage and rain falls all over Bammare". Unfourtunately, Addie's cowardly father isn't much help, and it doesn't look like rain. So, while her sister is fighting the horrible grey death, Addie leaves the castle alone to find the cure for grey death. While on this great adventure, she conquers and ogre, fights gryphons, and gets past a dragon to save her sister. Time is running out, the grey death has left Meryl with only a few days left to live. With the help of a sorcerer names Rhys, some villagers, and a few fairies, this book has an amazing twist at the end. Everything about this book is perfect. (except maybe the binding on mine, but thats only because I read it so often and keep it with me on trips.) I love this book, and I know anybody in their right mind will too!

Summary: a very good book
Review: When a friend of mine, who is currently getting her education degree, expressed her deep and abiding love for Gail Carson Levine's, "Ella Enchanted", she asked me to recommend similar books. And I, quite frankly, was completely unable to. I think I may have suggested the tepid "Ordinary Princess", but basically I was lacking any and all supposed expertise that I, as a children's librarian, was supposed to have. So what do you do when you like an author's work and want to find similar books? Why you move onto that author's other books, of course! Enter "The Two Princesses of Bamarre". Written in the style that fans of "Ella Enchanted" have come to expect, the book is yet another cheery fantasy foray into a world of ogres, griffins, dragons, and other assorted nasty monsters. For the girl who hasn't outgrown princesses but wants something a little more mature (and better written) than your average fairy tale, "The Two Princesses" recommends itself brilliantly.

Once, there were two princesses. There was Meryl, who was brave and there was Addie who was not. In this tale, the two girls are close and constant companions. With their mother dead and their father emotionally distant, the two must get their love from one another. Addie lives with the constant dread that someday her sister will leave her to go throughout the kingdom slaying nasty creatures, but she hopes that day is long off. Soon, Meryl does come across an adversary. Just not the one either girl planned on. Meryl contracts the deadly Gray Death, and like all its victims, is unable to defeat it. Faced with no other choice, Addie sets out to find a cure for her sister's illness.

The book is written in the light-hearted style familiar to Levine's fans everywhere. It also has the required romantic subplot, as per most princess tales. Now don't get me wrong. The book isn't as good as "Ella Enchanted". But it's still an engaging romp of a tale. There is, however, a gaping plot defect in the script. In the final moments of her sister's illness, Addie wonders if she could get her friend Rhys the sorcerer to fly Meryl to the cure. Unfortunately, this logical plan of action is never embarked on for absolutely no other reason other than the fact that it would disturb Levine's planned plot. It's a huge logical gap in the narrative, and not one she's usually prone to. A disappointment, to say the least.

Just the same, it's hard not to like "The Two Princesses of Bamarre". Levine can write `plucky `without crossing over into `annoyingly plucky'. Her heroines often overcome very understandable personal flaws with a great deal of wit and wisdom. Addie isn't the best of the Levine heroines, but she's certainly one that improves greatly over the course of the story. And though I may quibble with the plot points here and there, I think it's a fine fine book. An amusing read for any fairy tale lover.

Summary: This was a good book!!
Review: The perfect gift for the serious 10 year old who you know will look deep into the book.

Meryl promisies her sister Addie that she will not persue her dream of fighting monsters to find the cure for the Gray Death until after Addie is happily wed. However, when Meryl gets the Gray Death, Addie feels guilty that Meryl will have not fought one thing. Addie, the timid sister who always relied on her brave and spunky sister Meryl, sets out on a quest to find the cure to the Gray Death.
As Addie fights dragons and gryphons, she discovers the spunkiness and wittyness inside herself, while falling in love with a sorcerer.

There are the typical fantasy-book things, cloaks of invisibility, etc, but this is a very deep and moving book, to me at least, and even has some scary parts.
I read it again and again and never tire of it, especially with the surprise ending.

Enjoy my daughter's favorite book.

Summary: A fantastic book!
Review: This is the story of two princesses - Addie and Meryl. Meryl, the older princess, is brave and bold. Meryl's younger sister, Addie can be fearful and timid. Meryl and Addie are best friends, and each other's favorite companions. They spend time playing games with each other. Their favorite game is the Gray Death game. In this game, Addie will pretend to catch the Gray Death, a feared disease that is guaranteed to kill of its victim. Then, Meryl will pretend to search for the cure. In the game, Meryl will find it, and bring it to Addie, who will get well again. Then, Meryl falls ill with the Gray Death, and this time it is not a game. Addie knows she must find the cure to save her sister, but to do so, she must face her greatest fears. I thought this was a beautifully written book that keeps the reader turning the pages, and I also like that this book can be unpredictable at times. This a is great, creatively written story!

Summary: A Really Great Read!!!
Review: Okay, you're going to love this book!!!!
Addie and Meryl are sisters and best friends though they are like day and night. Meryl has always been the brave, the strong, the protector of shy, scared Addie.
But when Meryl falls to the Gray Death, the roles get reversed and Addie must find her courague to go out of her secure little world and find the cure to her sister's illines.

On her quest she'll face her deepest fears... with Meryl's - and Bamare's - fate in her hands Addie's time is running out.

Look out for other charactes, like Rees, Bella, Dru and much more!!

Oh, and the Dragon rocks!!!
