Summary: My review
Review: Chris Serbo is a senior in high school that is faced with the problem that is ruining his life, alcohol. In Imitate The Tiger by Jan Cheripko he is desperately trapped in a deep hole that he cannot get out of, for he lost his girlfriend, his grades are dropping, and his relationship with his aunt is deteriorating.
He lives with his aunt because his mother is dead and his father is a drunk in the army and can't be there for him. Chris plays football for love from his coach, John Popano and his best friend Billy Krovats and his friend Polly play a big role in that they are there for Chris when he needs to talk about his problems. The only way he can disappear out of the trap is the wonderful feeling of hitting someone in football or the great sensation of getting drunk, but he doesn't quite understand what alcohol is doing to him. He thinks he has control over his life but through the book he learns the truth about himself.
I believe that many teenagers could relate to the situations Chris is dealt with and the enjoyment comes from how Chris is finding himself and how it all ends up. I believe it is a great book and to me it seems like Chris Serbo is a real kid in a real world.

Review: Imitate the Tiger by Jan Cheripko

Chris Serbo is a high school teen who loves to play football, and who loves to drink. He loves to party, maybe sometimes a little too much, and he loves to get messed up as much as he possibly can. All teens love to party, but in this story Chris Serbo takes partying to a different level. He finds drinking a regular habit, and he finds it more addicting than biting your finger nails. His Aunt Catherine is about to toss him out of the house, and she is fully aware of Chris's problem. Chris also just recently lost his girlfriend who he is desperately trying to get back. Chris is now in a desperate attempt to regain his life while thinking of what he did in a rehab center. Jan Cheripko did an excellent job portraying an adolescent teen male making very critical decisions about his life. She also brings out many important lessons for all teens to learn like "don't drink and drive." She showed that she knew what recent high school life was like, and she also showed situations and the consequences of certain people's actions. On a scale of 1-5, I would rate this book a 4, for the reasons of her sharp perspective of adolescent life.

Summary: Imitate the Tiger
Review: Imitate the Tiger, by Jan Cheripko is features Chris Serbo, a senior in high school. He plays defense on the school football team and is a big shot at school. At an early age Chris was forced to live with his aunt when his mother died and his father became an alcoholic. As Chris gets older he starts to realize his strong love for football and alcohol.
As Chris becomes more dependant on alcohol, it starts to ruin his life. He doesn't realize what drove his girlfriend away from him, he doesn't understand how much he has hurt his friend Polly, he doesn't understand why his grades are slipping away, and he doesn't understand he is hurting himself. Chris has become an alcoholic, and he doesn't even realize it. Most of the school knows, but they just look the other way; however, there is one teacher who will not look the other way, Mrs. Whittaker, Chris' history teacher.
As Mrs. Whittaker tries to find a way to help Chris, Chris puts all his energy into football and drinking. The championship is close, for the school football team has the opportunity to be district champions. One night after a party where Chris gets drunk, he meets his worst nightmare on an empty highway where he must realize what he has become and the consequences of it.
This is a great book and it is a good example for teenagers. It shows real-life situations and how alcohol can ruin anyone's life. This is a great book, and I recommend this book to everyone.

Review: Imitate The Tiger
By Jan Cheripko.

The senior at Valley View High, Christopher Serbro was given away when he was a little boy to his Aunt Catherine by his father who was a low paid alcoholic that didn't know how to take care of his children. His mother's death was too much to handle for his father. Before Christopher's mother died, Chris's father was in the military. That's all he knew how to do. He would go to work drunk, come home drunk, and when his wife died one day, he didn't know what to do.
Chris is an athlete. Chris plays football for the Valley View High team. He loves football because it's the only way he can get away from his problems such as his father, and Chris's ex girlfriend leaving him for someone else. Chris just likes to run away. He doesn't know how to control his feelings, and his abuse of alcohol. He doesn't know how to control his thirst for alcohol and he blames everything on his father. When Chris does drink, and people remind him that he drinks too much he tells them that he isn't an alcoholic like his father. Deep down inside he knows they are right about his drinking habits. Christopher's friends are not the best in the world, sometimes but there are there.
The audience should read this book because it's a good learning experience about a boy becoming a man that has alcoholic problems in his life. To learn how Chris to control his anger and his family. Suddenly he doesn't know whom to trust because he has no friends. What he's feeling when he is alone at home or when someone hit's him he doesn't know how to react he wants to hit them back because reflexes tells him to but he doesn't know what to do. Chris is an emotional boy that cry's when he get hits but that's him he just doesn't know how to handle things he wasn't brought up in a life that was loveable life so when he cry's he wants someone to hold him, and love him but no ones there.

Review: IMITATE THE TIGER
BY: JAN CHERIPKO

This was a very interesting and exciting book with many twists and turns. This book is a about a young man, Chris Serbo, who has many painful emotional problems in his life. Chris Serbo is an alcoholic teenager who has very little to live for and is constantly feeling sorry for himself. Being an alcoholic is affecting Chris' work at school and his life at home with is Aunt Catherine. Chris' grades are slipping even in his best subject history, his dad doesn't see him, his girlfriend dumped him, alcoholic problems are getting worse, his football coach doesn't care for him, he feels responsible for 2 deaths, and he has no one to turn to.
The book takes place in present day small town USA at Valley Central high school. The main characters are Chris Serbo, a high school linebacker; Aunt Catherine, who takes care of Chris; Billy Krovats, Chris' best friend; Marisa, his ex girlfriend; and his dad, who was never there.
Chris has become an alcoholic like his father and is heading for a life as a bum. His girlfriend, whom he was in love with, has dumped him because he is an alcoholic and she has gone with one of his best friends. Aunt Catherine is tired of his excuses, and tells him he is becoming like his father. When life can't get any worse, he is jumped by three teenagers and was almost killed. The next day two of the kids who jump him die and the other in on life support. A little while after Chris is sent to rehab because of his alcohol problems.
At the end there is a thrilling twist, which will change Chris' perspective on life forever. This book gave me much enjoyment and pleasure and I believe it will give any other reader just as much enjoyment and I am glad to say this is one of the best books I have read so far.

The setting of Imitate the Tiger is at High Falls High school. The major characters are Chris Serbo, his best friend Billy Krovats, his guardian Aunt Catherine, the football coach John Popano, and a teacher who cares and believes in Chris, Mrs. Whittaker. The climax, which is the turning point, is when Chris admits that he has a drinking problem and needs help. Some rising actions that lead to the climax are that he gets sick and somehow gets himself into trouble with other kids. The teachers, especially Mrs. Whittaker, becomes bothered and skeptical about the way Chris acts. His Aunt Catherine also becomes apprehensive about him coming home late and the excuses he makes like he is hiding something. Chris's friends even worry about him. They are his friends and care about him. Polly, a girl that Chris comes up to before class and asks for her homework, wants to know why he won't do his own work. The he conflict that follows is Chris tries to fight being a drunk. He doesn't want to out to like his father who dumped him and his sister [now in college] at his aunts because he doesn't have any responsibility ever since the death of his mother. The falling actions that lead to the resolution are that he becomes sick every time he drinks, Mrs. Whittaker becomes more and more concerned about Chris's life after school and after football practice. She wonders why he is doing badly in school and where is he when it is time to do his homework. When Chris gets drunk he becomes provoked and confused that he doesn't know what he is doing or saying. Afterwards he doesn't know what happened besides the fact that he was drunk previously. All of this leads to the resolution which is he finally realizes that he is hurting not only his self, but also his family and friends who care. This is where he goes to a school that helps him and other people who have problems with drinking and becoming drunk. This is were he will learn the consequences on drinking at an inappropriate age or any age and what the effects are.
