After reading a few of his Novels, though, I can honestly say that HEROES is one of his best. With a simple and straightforward plot, especially compared with a few of his earlier titles, Cormier explores the so often blurry lines between good and evil with poor Francis, and enviable Larry LaSalle, who both share the same dark secret. All at once cormier conjurs up both pity and hate for each man, and leaves the reader not only questioning the meaning of the word "hero", but also the very concepts of right and wrong.

Review: I chose this book because I like to read about people who were in the war.Heroes is about a boy and his name is Francis Joseph Cassavant. He's eighteen years old. He has just came back from the world war 2. He has no face because he fell on a gernade. Three days after blowing up his face, Francis retuned to Frenchtown, his hometown. He had a mission to kill his childhood hero who had been trying to kill the love of Francis's life, and save her.As he tracked down his childhood hero he realized he wasn't a hero. I would personally recommand this book because it has a lot of thrilling action in it.I especially like the part when he went to the club and saw his childhood hero and went after him.

If you want to know then find out by reading the book.

It kept me reading so then I could see what was going to happen next. The book was about a young man, Francis Cassevant, who went to war and jumped on a grenade and blew his face up. People stare at him in horror in the streets in the town of Frenchtown. He meets a girl and they become good friends and likes her deeply but, she just likes him as a friend. He becomes a champion at table tennis and beats his old friend for the championship. He also wants to kill his old hero, but you will have to read the book to see what happens and see if he kills his old hero or if he gets killed.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Francis Cassavante is the coolest! Review: Once again Cormier delivers heavy, deep-thinking, moralistic work, but in *Heroes*, the heart of the plot is hollow and lacking meaning. The one incident that the whole story is built on is in want of realism. Everything else has the author's mark of great talent and efficient, profound storytelling, though. The thing that drives this novel is the protagonist who is also, in a way, the antagonist: Francis Cassavante. We have this horribly maimed guy walking around hiding his face and reminiscing about his past while nurturing this dark need for revenge, without once caring about his own future. He is the impetus of this story, the real pillar. This is the type of character who haunts your dreams. Read the book just for the guy.

One aspect of this book that I enjoyed was his characters. Cormier writes so that you see the characters actions, but also so you see the characters feelings. Cormier goes into great detail to let the reader know what Francis, the main character, is feeling. Another thing I liked about this book was the plot. Cormier uses many literary tools like foreshadowing and flashbacks to make the plot more understandable. One major dislike I have about Heroes is the fact that Cormier makes the whole story revolve around one graphic event that is not pleasing to read about. I would highly recommend this book because it is exciting and has many valuable lessons.

Review: Robert Cormier sends a powerful message to readers that a hero can, in actuality, be nothing like a hero at all. In the book, an 18 year old man named Francais Cassavant comes back to his home town. He comes home from World War II with a grotesque wound to his face. He recieved a Silver Star of Bravery for jumping in front of a granade. The granade blow his face off. He now wheres a white silk scarf on his face. The white symbolized innocence, but that is the ironic part. This "hero" is filled with vengence and wants to get back at his high school hero for rapping a girl that he was once in love with. The title is ironic because the two men that were said to be heroes really were not. Cormier makes that point very well noted. As a teen, I really enjoyed the book. It kept me interested throughout its entirety. Robert Cormier, being my favorite author, really sends a message that people can hide who they really are. It shows that we should not stereotype people.

Most authors focus on the plot and make the story interesting and easy to follow. Cormier compromises plot for point. Although I enjoyed the book I think that it could have been a little more structured and chronologically laid out. I suppose that this format did add a bit of mystery to the story though. I liked the setting he chose. The story took place during World War II. War is always very interesting I, as a boy, liked it but girls might not enjoy the character's flashback to the war. This book is definitely not suitable for young children. While they might not understand Cormier's hinting that the girl was raped, it would probably come through. The story, unlike other novels, has some suspense. Cormier leaves the reader wondering the cause of some feelings and actions. Finally, at the end of the story all of the pieces come together. As the book went on, I learned what the main character was going to do and why. All the time the reader searches for answers. The boy's relationship and times with the girl also add some spice. It shows how we all feel when we really like a person, how nervous we are. Over all I would say this is a good book, if you can follow it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Heroes Review: The book that i read was called Heroes. The book Heroes is about a young boy that forged his birth certificate to get into the military. When he was in the military he landed face first on a grenade, which put a hole in his face. "Unfortionally I lived", he would say. When he gets out of the Military , he goes back to Frenchtown, which is his home town. While he is there, he is living in cognito. He is on a mission to kill his child hood hero. When I was reading this book I was always wondering what was going to happen next. I thought that the charectors were perfect for this book, very realistic. I would say that this is an excellent book and I encourage others to read it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Truly a Momorable book.. Review: This book "Heroes," by Robert Cormier, is truly a memorable one. It talks of a young boy(a soldier who earned a silver star) around the age of 15 coming back to his hometown, Frenchtown, after World War 2. His main purpose of coming back was to carry out his mission on assasinating his childhood hero, Larry LaSalle. Larry LaSalle, was described as an extradinary character. He would walk in a Fred Astaire way and smile the old movie-star smile. He was great in every sport, mainly known as a dancer. The only background that everyone knew about Larry was that he was a star in New York and Chicago. However nobody knew of his reason for his return back to Frenchtown. Larry LaSalle was a true hero for the kids. At the Wreck Center, he would always be around to encourage the kids, and would always find a way to make each individual a star. He turned a bully into a singer, a shy gawky girl into a dancer, an imcompetent individual, our main character Francis, to exceed in a sport, ping-pong(oh excuse me, table tennis). This book was especially special for me as I recall precious memories of when I was a child going to the recreation center every day during the summer. Larry LaSalle became especially close to Francis and his young glamouring girlfriend, Nicole Renard. Nicole was a goddess to Francis. She was everything to him... but something tragic happened to change their lives... which caused Francis Cassavant to carry out his "mission". I truly love this book. It's a book that will remain in your memories.
