Summary: Good Book
Review: I think this book was a really good book. Although it was a little bit confusing at times, but it was a really good book! There were some things that I still didnt understand at the end of the book., but then I had thought about it and after a while of thinking about it...you pretty much can figure it out.Except Lulu....was she dead to begin with or was she just in purgatory?!

Summary: Not one of Cormier's best books, but still interesting
Review: In the Middle of the Night is a book for those who enjoy mysteries. Making everyone wonder what is going to happen next must have been Cormier's intent, and he does a fine job of this. The mystery revolves around a young boy named Denny whose father is running from his past because victims of a tragic accident blame him and will not let him forget what happened. Denny slowly pieces together the past despite his father's efforts to keep him in the dark about the incident. Once the story got interesting and less confusing, I found it hard to put the book down. If this were my book, I would have started the story of with a little excitement. I would have of started in the middle of a problem and then introduced what was happening. This would've grabbed the attention of the reader a little more. The story stopped in interesting points too much to get into the story easily. The story would have flowed easier going from an exciting point to another exciting. Then the beginning would not have been so slow. I prefer reading books that are exciting all the way through instead of slowly building up and getting exciting half way through the book. The book should have been more action packed all the way through. Nobody enjoys reading-boring books, so why start off a story boring? The book does jump back and forth from past to present, making the story confusing in the beginning. The story starts off with Denny as a sixteen-year-old and skips to his father as a sixteen-year-old. Both of the two have similar traits so the allusion could be created that they are one. This makes it hard to tell when the story skips. After the story starts to flow I could easily figure out what was going on. After I could easily distinguish the past from the present, the story became easier to put together and easier to read. The way the story skips back and forth unexpectedly while in the middle of an interesting part makes the story hard to get into, but when the story gets going watch out! I felt bad for the main character, Denny because he has been in a bad situation his entire life, and he could not help reverse his situation, nor could he do anything about the problem. Due to an accident that his father was involved in during his youth, Denny was constantly under strict rules in his house and constantly harassed outside of his house. Not allowed to answer the phone due to harassing calls to his house, he started to wonder what was going on and decided to do something even if he had to bend the rules. Because he is constantly moving to try to avoid the harassment, Denny has stopped trying to make friends. His family decided that they were going to stay in one town, and Denny met a girl one-day that he developed a crush on and then never sees again. In school, his father also was a loner that had no friends. Denny's life was always in the dumps, and his father running from the cause is the cause. Overall, If someone were to ask for my opinion In The Middle Of The Night or if the book is worth recommending, I would say that the book was decent. The plot started off slow, but picked up and became interesting. The story had a good ending but predictable. Robert Cormier is a good author with a good style. The book is worth reading, but I think his other books are better than this one, and should be read first.

Summary: In the Middle of the Night
Review: In the Middle of the Night is a thrilling novel with many twists and turns. It's a definate page-turner with a good message. Cormier's writing style of constant changes in narration keeps the reader challenged and guessing. This particular story begins with a tragic accident at the Globe Theater in which twenty-two children are killed. Twenty-five years later Jean-Paul is still being blamed, but this time a certain survivor is hunting down his son for revenge. As the suspense builds Cormier continues to add dark twists to the plot. In the Middle of the Night is sure to be just as pleasing as the other award winning novels by Robert Cormier.

Summary: confusing plot
Review: in the middle of the night is complex and deals eith many different charecter changes. it is not as good as most cormier titles like the chocolate war, beyond the chocolate war, tunes for bears to dance to and i am the cheese.

Summary: So intense...
Review: In the Middle of the Night is yet another wonderful book by Robert Cormier. In the story, Denny's father was involved in an accident that killed 22 children. He didn't cause it but not everyone believes that...especially a woman by the name of Lulu who believes that the sins of the father will be visited upon the son... A wonderful book, something you can't put down, it exercises a hypnotic force that consumes your entire being in its intensity.

Summary: Very Good
Review: John Paul Colbert used to work at The Globe Theater when he was a young man. On the night of the big magic show, that was coming to the Globe, he was sent to the balcony , that was full of old boxes and rags, to investigate a strange noise. when he got up in the balcony he couldn't see anything so he lit a match. But when he lit the match he didn't get the flame far enough away from the matchbox and the flame caught the entire matchbox on fire and he dropped it which caused the entire balcony to instantly ignite in flames. the balcony then collapsed onto the unexpecting children below, killing 22 people. Now John Paul is grown and has a family of his own. He gets these calls in the middle of the night and when he is on the phone when they call he just stands there and listens he never says a word. Just stands there. But his teenage son Denny is determined to end this. So one day after school Denny hears the phone ring and he knows that he isn't allowed to pick up the phone but he does anyways. And then it all begins. To find out what happens next you have to read the book. This is an amazing book. I would recommend this book for grades 7-12. But it was an overall good book. Robert Cormeir did an excellent job, as usual.

Summary: Mediocre
Review: Out of all of Robert Cormier's books that I've read, In the Middle of the Night was probably the worst. It wasn't terrible, but it just didn't seem to have any meaning to me. It was pretty boring, and I wouldn't recommend it.
Excuse me for my negative review, but I'm just being honest!

Summary: Cormier knows his audience well
Review: Robert Cormier achieves another sophisticated teen novel, this time showing readers what a subtle but powerful tool a telephone can become when used to manipulate someone. Communication, trust, and guilt are backdrop themes for lively discussion on the internal rage conflict that surfaces in the central characters. Easily predictable, but well-paced, this is pure Cormier demonstrating his innate ability to tell the story through a teen's own eyes. Many thanks to an author who heeds the call for exciting young adult literature.
