Summary: A Teacher Reads "Holes"
Review: "Holes" is the story of a young man who manages to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. His parents are supersticious and avoid facing the realities of life. Accused and convicted of a crime he did not commit, Stanley finds himself a "guest" of the state at Camp Green Lake where bad boys are turned into good boys by digging holes in a dried up lake bed. Despite his immaturity, Stanley does adapt life at Camp Green Lake and soon realizes there is more going on than the rehabilitation of bad boys. His curosity leads him into situations for which he is not prepared.

This book has strong literary elements and is an excellent tool for teaching foreshadowing, flashback and symbolism. Reluctant readers enjoy this book with its short, interesting chapters. However, some teacher guidance is necessary.

Summary: Holes
Review: Holes by Lois Schar is a wonderful book to read. Stanley Yelnats has terrible luck. He gets sent to Camp Green Lake, a detention camp where he must dig 5 feet by 5 feet holes everyday for a crime he did not commit. When he gets there he meets x- ray the most popular kid who everyone tries to please. Another kid named zero is homeless and alone. He lives on the street and steals food. Zero and Stanley become friends when Stanley teaches Zero to read. Inturn Zero digs some of Stanley's hole. The other kids in group e are Zigzag, Magnet and Armpit. The warden, a greedy selfish woman is making everyone dig the holes for a mysterious reason.

Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake thinking it will be fun. Then he finds out it was defiantly not. He has to wake up every morning at 4:30 in the morning and dig a five foot by five foot hole. Stanley starts to get suspicious. One day Stanley finds a piece of gold. The warden gets real excited, but Stanley leads her to a false location. Stanley gets in a fight with Zigzag, and Zero tries to help Stanley by strangling Zigzag. Zero gets in trouble and runs away. Stanley tries to go after Zero in the dry deserted desert. The find each other exhausted. What will happen to Stanley and Zero, you will have to find out yourself!

I really liked Holes a lot. I liked it because it has a little bit of everything. It has humor, mystery, adventure, and parts about friendship. I think anyone would like this book at almost any age because it is so well written. I would recommend this book to anyone because it teaches many lessons like doing what you believe in. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate it a 9. I would say this is one of my favorite books. This book is really worth reading.

Summary: one "hot" book
Review: If you are adventurous, you will enjoy reading Holes. Sachar combines the experiences of friendship and suspense into an incredible book while uncovering a "big" secret in relation to the history of the novel.

The Yelnats have a history of bad luck, and Stanley's conviction for a crime he didn't commit sends him to a juvenile detention center at Camp Green Lake. He reaches the camp and discovers it has no lake at all and has been dry for over 100 years. The boys in the camp have to dig holes for punishment, and the warden claims this builds character. Stanley suspects something more and takes the reader on a incredible journey.

I would recommend this book to anyone, but it would particularly appeal to our reluctant, young readers who can relate to the thoughts and experiences of Stanley's journey which go from having "bad luck" to becoming our hero.

Summary: In The Middle Of Nowhere
Review: Book Review
By: Evan Norman

Holes is a creative book with fun words and some kindhearted characters. You should read Holes, because it's exciting and action packed.
It's about a boy named Stanley who is sent to Camp Green Lake. Actually it is not really a camp, it's a bad kids camp. Only kids who do bad stuff go there, they have a choice between going to jail and going to Camp Green Lake. The bad part is that they have to dig a hole everyday exactly five feet wide and five feet deep! When Zero, one of the boys runs away Stanley has to try to find Zero, but it won't be easy, there are hungry poisonous lizards on the loose in the hot desert.
Louis Saccar has already written a couple fascinating books, but this one is definitely the most enjoyable. You should go get Holes and read, read, and read. I'll tell you something you won't want to stop! Make sure you don't fall in a hole, you won't get out.

Summary: A great mystery and survival book
Review: Short, easy to read, what more can you want from a book but you still get the same effect as a longer book. The downside of the book though is there are many characters which make the book confusing because you don't know who they're talking about at many parts. Louis does though create a creative story with an unexpected conclusion. Though the book is confusing and unrealistic I still recomend it to anyone that wants to read a good kid mystery book.

Summary: Holes--a review by Bobby Fabian
Review: Holes is a pretty good book. The hardships that Zero endures are sad, but the humor about Stanley Yelnats being caught are worth reading. I highly recommend this book for 5th or 6th grade readers because I do not believe younger students would understand it.
