When I was doing a summer camp for 4th and 5th grade children, I incorporated a story time in which I read to them for twenty minutes. At first there were many complaints. Once we began reading "Holes", after 20 minutes, the kids would be begging me not to stop. This book was recommended to me from my University English Professor and I recommend it to every adult who enjoys reading. As a matter of fact, it is my pick for my monthly book club!Read it, you'll love it too!

This book is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats who goes to a boot camp called Camp Green Lake. This boy got sent to this boot camp because he stole a famous baseball player's shoe. There was 5 tents(A,B,C,D,E) and no lake. Stanley was sent to tent D. At their tent the kids had nicknames. His nickname was Caveman. They had a conselor named Mom. And a boy named Zero. Now I tell you their punishments. They dug holes 5 feet deep, 5 feet long. There was another story about Stanley's rotten,pig-stealing,no good grandfather. He wanted to marry a women. So he stole Madame Zeroni's pig but the other guy got a fatter pig and married the women. But Stanley finds out that Zero's real name is Hector Zeroni. And then the boot camp shuts down and Hector goes home with Stanley. Even though it sound like I liked the book I really hated it.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Choice Reading Book Review Review: The book I read for choice reading was Holes by Lavis Sachar. It was one of the best books I have ever read. I liked how Lauis Sachar had a glimpse of the past in a paragraph and then he would go right back to the present tense. I thought he could have made a better ending for the story. He should have said what happened to the warden and camp green lake. The only sentence on what happened to the warden was, "Ms. Walker who was in desperate need of money had to sell the land which had been in her family for generations". Page 229. I think that Holes is one of the best books. The book was very good it has a good moral and theme. The theme of the book is if you are nice to others you will get rewarded. This book was very hard to find out its theme. I believe it is a true theme because if you are nice to others they will do something for you. This relates to my life. One day I gave someone my lunch and he bought me lunch for two days. This book was very good for me I learned a lot. I would recommend this book to others because it is a great book. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It was very interesting through out the entire book. It is a long book but you can read it fast. I would recommend this book to others to read. Someone recommended this book to me and I am glade they did.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of the Best of the Best Books in the World Review: I am a fifth grade student at Waldon Mercy Academy (G.R.).I did a book called Holes, but it's no ordanairy book. WARNING, this book is so fantastic you'll get addicted to it like chocolate. I truly recomend this book. It's about a boy named Stanly who gets framed for something he didn't do. He was accused of stealing an athlete's sneakers while walking under a freeway. Of course he didn't do it, the sneakers hit him on the head! When he was in trile, he had the choice of going to jail or Camp Green Lake, a boot camp for unsenseable children not to mention the children must dig holes exactly five feet deep and wide plus there are deadly lizards living there. He chose Camp Green Lake. He made many friends, and fortunatly for him, he lost wieght. However trajety strikes when his friend gets into a fight and runs away into the magma-hot desert. Of course Stanley runs after him and the story continues from there. Now, I won't give away the ending, but this book was a fantastic, unbelievable page-turner. This truly was an amazing book. I loved this book like I love my family.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: My Review of Holes by Louis Sachar Review: Stanley Yelnats finds himself in the middle of what used to be the largest lake in Texas. Of course now the lake is dried up and used for the boys who chose to come here as opposed to going to jail. Stanly chose Camp Green Lake, where he and the other boys dig 5 foot wide and 5 feet deep holes all over the dried up lake. There are boys in Stanley's camp who seem to find a lot of trouble and Stanley seems to find all of the punisment. Which is ironic since Stanley is at Green Lake on accident. There are a couple of stories intertwined throughout the book about Stanley's great grandfather and the history of Green Lake. The author does a good job at putting the reader at the scene. The reader will definitely understand how hot and miserable it is at the Camp Green Lake. I will say the end is something you will have to find out for yourself. The book is interesting and brings out a lot of feelings for the young boys at Camp Green Lake.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: You will definetly read this book after this review Review: A curse placed on Stanley Yelnats's "No-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather" has caused Stanley to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This time it caused Stanley a sentence in a juvenile detention camp, for a crime he did not commit. The camp is on a dried up lake where boys have to dig holes that are five feet deep and five feet wide everyday in desert weather. The Warden says, " If you take a bad boy and make him dig holes he will become a good boy." Nevertheless Stanley figures out that the Warden is looking for something more than turning these boys good. Could this camp and the people at the camp change Stanley's life forever. This book was one of the most captivating and enticing books I have ever read. When Stanley gets to Camp Green Lake that's when the action begins. You are always wondering why they are digging holes and when you find out that the Warden is looking for something you cant help but wonder what it is. Each character is very captivating because they aren't your average kind of guys; they are juvenile delinquents. Moreover Zero is so strange you cant help but think what is wrong with him. The best thing is you don't find out what the Warden is looking for till the very end so the suspense is through out the whole book and it keeps building up, making you not want to put Holes down. The reason I chose to read this book was because I heard it was funny and now I know why. Like right away in the 3rd chapter Stanley's teacher Ms. Bell takes Stanley because he is over weight and the skinniest kid it the class and shows the ratio between them. I was laughing so hard I had to put the book down and laugh. Then in chapter 6 my favorite part came Derrick Dune a kid who Stanley is twice the size of picks on Stanley. So he goes to his teachers and they just laugh. In spite of all that the funniest piece was about Stanley's "No-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather." It was so outrageous and wild. His grandfather took a pig from a gypsy and took it to a lake sung it a song and it got fatter. He did this because he had to give a pig to the father of the girl he loved and when the day came she didn't know who to chose because someone else had brought a pig the same size. Moreover the name is just so ridiculous. I did not have any dislikes about this book although I thought the story was very random. Yet that's what made it funny but it was also wired. I seem to have mixed feeling about this particular issue. The whole thing about his grandfather was so fictional I mean no one could relate to it. Also if u steal shoes I don't think they are going to make you dig holes in the middle of the desert, and the whole business about Kissin' Kate Barlow and how she robbed Stanley's great-grandfather and then Stanley finds it what are the chances of that? I think this book doesn't really have a value it just a silly children's novel that is a blast to read, I would give it two thumbs way up. This book is like no other book because it has a really stupid plot but it has a way of drawing you in at the same time. I don't think this book has a value yet I think it has a moral. Kindness will only be given to you if you are kind to others. I think the book clearly states this because Stanley's great-great-grandfather stole a pig and it brought them bad luck, but when Stanley helped Zero he got a good fortune.
