Summary: Sachar's Masterwork
Review: I am 15 and can read at a 12th grade level and to tell you the truth this book is one of the best I have ever read. It is supposed to be a childrens book and no doubt it was written that way but it was shocking and intriguing how serious it was at times. I am hear to slam some negative reviews first of all the switching back and forth between stories was genius it gave us insight on Stanley's family's past as well as the past of Green Lake. Also I noticed that most of you out there missed Zero's relationship to Madam Zeroni (hint: his last name is Zeroni) This is a book that adults and children alike willn enjoy. Oh yeah and it's Hector NOT Harold!

Review: It took me only two days to finish this book. My eyes would hurt after so much reading, but I couldn't put it down.Staying up into the late hours of the dark night I began to lose what time of day it was for I didn't care what time of day it was I just wanted to read this book. I woke up to find myself sick one morning and was very excited ,because I had all day to read it. I highly recommed this book. I'm not a big book fan,but that didn't stop me from reading it. The chapters are short and the print is spaced out a bit.

When Stanley goes to Camp Green Lake he is excited because he thinks it's going to be a fun camp,he finds out not. There isn't even a lake, there used to be ,but it dried up long ago. He was accused of stealing sneakers from a famous baseball player and has to go to this detention camp. About every other chapter Stanley keeps refering back to his great grandfather and great great grandfather and how they used to live at Camp Green Lake long ago when it was a town and not a camp.Stanley makes new friends and teaches a kid called Zero to read.A bad part is about the yellow spotted lizards which are soposedly the worst. They say if you get bit by one you will never survive.

Summary: holes
Review: The book I reviewed is holes. This intriguing book is about a boy that lives in a family that dose not have a lot of money. The father of this family is always trying to invent shoe products. So any way, on day when this boy is walking and a bridge a pair of autographed shoes come flying of the bridge and h it this kid in the head. Not knowing what to do, he takes the shoes and walks home. Now it turns out that those autographed shoes were autographed by a famous basket ball player that was going to give to a orphanage to auction off, but they fell out of the car and hit this kid. So, on the long walk home the cops pull up and arrest this kid for theft. Later at the court house the very honorable judge [but not knowledgeable of this kids situation] convicts him guilty and gives him an option to go to the horrible, not fun, and all together a rotten place to be at juvenile hall or Camp Green lake. So this kid gets thinking, how bad can a place called camp green lake really be, and any way it can't be worse than juvenile hall. Later on the bus comes to pick up this kid and after a long ride to Camp Green Lake he sees this not what he pictured. It looked like dessert and it was one. He gets of the bus and meets the rest of the kids here some of them have crazy nick names like Pits, Zero, and X-ray. He soon realizes that the is no lake here and that the lake dried up along time ago. After a nights rest they camp owners wake them all up early in the morning to dig 5 feet deep and five feet wide holes. That is how it goes day after day. And there are yellow spotted lizards out in the desert, and they are very poisons. One day while digging they dig up a clue that tells they aren't digging for discipline, but some way different.

Review: Holes

Stanley Yelnats was a very unlucky man. He was always at the wrong place at the wrong time. He lived with his mother and father. His father was a very unsuccessful inventor that was trying to invent a machine that could recycle old sneakers. So one day Stanley was walking home from school and right when he walked under an overpass some sneakers fell and hit him on the head, so he continued on. Then a cop stopped right in front of him and took one look at him and the sneakers then arrested him. He later found out that those sneakers were a famous basketball players sneakers. So they accused him of stealing them that is why he was arrested. As a punishment Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake. This camp was made for getting kids that were in trouble out of trouble by building character. It was a long ride to the camp in the bus; it took about ten hours for them to get there. Once he got there he was in for a big surprise. He got off and looked around, there wasn't a lake at all. He went to the Warden's office to tell them that he was there. She told him to wash up and go get some rest. The next day Stanley was woken up at four thirty in the morning. They were required to dig a hole five feet deep and five feet wide every day; Stanley had to stay at the camp for a year so he had to dig a lot of holes. To find out the rest you're going to have to read the book. I enjoyed reading this book, it was very exciting and it sucked you right in. I would recommend this book to any reading level.

Summary: An award-winner that's earned it
Review: I read this book because a friend recommended it to me, and I'm incredibly glad she did. I was familiar with some of Sachar's other work -- the old "Wayside School" books, for instance -- and I expected this book to be along the same lines in terms of tone and comedy.

I was completely blown away.

This wasn't the silly, happy Sachar of the "Wayside" books or the afterschool special feel of "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom." This was something different -- funny, but dark, menacing but inspiring. This is one of those books that makes a writer think, "wow... so THAT'S how you do it."

I won't go into the plot, since there are about 2000 other reviews you can look at for that, I'll just tell you what's good about it. The story is tight -- I read the whole book in three hours. There is nothing extra, no fat, no padding. Everything comes together perfectly. The characters are real -- the boys at the prison camp aren't hardened monsters, but they aren't innocent waifs either. These are kids who are at Green Lake because they have done bad things and, even if they're likeable, they're capable of doing bad things again.

Stanley, our hero, is unlucky, but not broken. He's got guts and smarts, and with those attributes together he accomplishes great things.

It's really great to see an award-winning book that DESERVES it.

Summary: Holes Review
Review: Holes was an incredibly amazing book, it is by far the best I've read. The way Louis Sachar gives so many clues to follow throughout the book keeps you hanging on every word. how the clues acctually tie together at the end is most defenetly the best part. When reading this story, its like reading a story within a story. One is a story of the present and one is of the past, the two stories come together in the end creating an unbelevable tale. The authors detail and creativity in this novel is so interesting and fun. This compelling story of discovery, friendship, character, and curses will leave you wishing it wouldnt end as you turn the last page. This book is so scintillating, that even as a childs book, many adults enjoy reading it. Holes makes an entertaing read for both young and old.
