It started with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. Now Stanly has found a pair of stolen shoes and is accused of stealing them. He is given a choice. He could either go to a juvenile correctional facility or he could go to Camp Green Lake. There is no water at Camp Green Lake. At Camp Green Lake the boys spend all day digging because it builds character. After a while Stanly realizes there is a reason the boys are digging. They are looking for something. But what could be at the bottom of a dry lake? This book is a wonderful tale of crime, punishment and redemption. Holes keeps up an easy pace that allows the reader to go on for hours. Holes is an easy read for little children, but is still interesting and held my attention through the whole story. There is some way for anyone to relate themselves to any character in the book. The characters feel real and the way they act amongst each other is just like real life. There will be a movie, but just like other books that are turned into movies; I think the book will still be the best. I think this is a great book and everyone should read it at least once. If you like mystery books you will like Holes. This was a great book.

It tells about Stanley Yelnats, and how he is sent to Camp Green Lake for a crime he never commited. At first I was hesitant to read this book. It was confusing at first because of two different stories being told at the same time. But it ended up being strangely fascinating. I couldn't put it down. If you want to read at least one good book in your life, read Holes.

I was reading the book as an assignment and I got very interested in the book. I read the book in one weekend. I liked Stanley the most because he was so kind when he taught Zero how to read and write. I got interested and couldn't put the book down when Stanley went to look for Zero. I was surprised by the ending and disappointed that it was over. I wonder if the movie will be as good as the book.

Stanley was of a poor family and had never been too camp before, it turns out however, that Camp Green Lake is not the type of camp that the rich boys spend there summers at. As punishment at this camp each boy must dig one hole a day, 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide. The temperatures on this gigantic dried lake bed in Texas are blistering. There is no use in running because there is no water for a hundred miles in any direction, or at least this is what the dictators at camp tell Stanley. As Stanley serves his sentence he becomes more and more aware of the corrupt leadership at Camp Green Lake. There is nothing for stanley to do but fight the days while digging up even more questions too boggle his adventure. Stanley knows that even after he leaves this camp the emotional damage will be be un bearing and he will be left too fill in the holes on his own. COMMENTS: Not being much of a reader I was surprised too have found this book so amusing! The fact that "Holes" is a holder of the national book award surely speaks for itself, but being iside stanleys thoughts as he partakes in this adventure is a feeling you need to experience for yourself. Dont take it from me, read the story and maybe you will be able to help Stanley fill in the holes.

But after I began the first page, I couldn't put it down--literally! I read the whole thing, became utterly engrossed in the story, and fell asleep at 6am after finishing this book... finally! I have a lot of favorite kids books (Roald Dahl rocks, as does Michael Ende) and this one can go up on the shelf with my favorites. It kept my attention, and was written very well, but would also be perfect for kids! I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to escape and have an amazing, constructive adventure.

Review: This book is loved by kids, it is exciting, mysterious and the main charachter Stanley is very, very likeable. What is really incredible though is how much adults seem to love this book too. I am a serious reader, I read several books a week and I believe Holes is one of my favorite books ever. I completely forgot I was reading a "kids" book by the end! "Holes" is an exciting, suspenseful mystery with two inter-weaving plotlines that come together in a shocking and wonderful ending. Of course for you adults out there it will be a quick read. It is worth reading (and re-reading!) no matter what your age.

This is the book everyone in his circle has read. So he convinced me to read it. Now, drop what you might be reading and take this elegant little novel for a spin. Think John Irving perhaps while you do and settle in for a very nice read. If your kids are readers, they probably have already read it, if not, this WILL get their attention. I absolutely love the feeling I get after reading a good book, this is one, read it, and then give it to a kid you like.
