Summary: Holes was a great Book
Review: I think Holes was a great book because of all of the characters. They were all good, but sometimes I think that the movie was way better because it had more details and you could atually see what was happening. In the book they had more details but it was sort of confusing because there were two stories going on at the same time. In the book Stanley gets hit on the head with a pair of all-star shoes, and is blamed that he stole them all for his great great grandfathers curse that he got for not taking a phsykic up to a mountain to drink from the water before she died.So now Stanley and all of his family were cursed.Other than that the story was great!

Summary: Holes
Review: On a dried up lake where there are holes for as far as the eye can see Stanley Yelnats finaly finds his famly fortoune. Holes is a book of mixed adventure and myestery. Each boy at camp Green Lake has his own nick name. Some are as kookie as Barf Bag, and some are as normal as Zero. Stanlies turns out to be Caveman. The entire story is a giant puzzle that you have to put together in your mind. Life is a giant hole so start digging!

Summary: Wow
Review: I would just like to say that this is one of the best books I have ever read. It was amusingly entertaining. I admit it did become quite predictable but the story line kept me wanting to read on.

The story is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats (notice the name...look closely) around 13 whom is wrongly accused of steeling a pair of famous shoes. His sentence leads him to Camp Green Lake where there isn't a lake at all...just a vast area of dry desert like sand. His punishment is to dig holes, and dig holes and dig holes to "straighten him out".

The story is clever because it jumps back and forth between two story lines. One about the present and how Stanley survives along with his friends and the short curcuited leaders, and the other is a tale of the past.

Everything is linked together and fits like a glove at the end. I started reading and could not put this book down. It is fun for all ages...and I am now officially dieing to see the movie!

Summary: Definitely worthy of the Newberry
Review: Older, more critical readers will have to overlook the number of coincidences and minor inconsistencies, but otherwise, Holes is an absolutely beautiful story about the power of chance, fate, friendship, and growth. Stanley is an utterly likable character despite his weight problem, and Sachar does an excellent job of weaving in the stories of his ancestors and the outlaw Kissin' Kate Barlow. The story of Elya Yelnats' love for the empty-headed Myra will make you laugh; the racism and hatred that Kate faces when she kisses a black man will make you cry. Stanley's story is the one that connects them.

Admittedly, this book has too many coincidences to be entirely real. Stanley is shipped off to a juvenile detention camp near the hometown of Kissin' Kate Barlow, who just happened to have run into his great-grandfather? Stanley meets Hector "Zero" Zeroni, whose great-great-great-grandmother knew Elya, Stanley's great-great-grandfather, and put a curse on him? Hector is, indirectly, the reason that Stanley has been shipped to this camp? Yes, there are lots of coincidences. But they are what make the story. The song that has been passed down through both Stanley's and Hector's families is also a wonderful way of connecting the history.

No wordy review can do justice to the artistry and careful weaving of this book. Sachar himself says it best: "The reader probably cares more about the change in Stanley's character and self-confidence. But those changes are subtle and hard to measure. There is no simple answer."

Summary: The plot was full of Holes
Review: This book is fabulous reading for young people... and old people, too (I'm pushing 40 and I was hooked... couldn't put it down). Louis Sachar has achieved a masterful telling of a story of injustice, greed, and the triumph of human goodness. Weaving together the lives of two boys (and their ancestors), he places them in a believable (because the reader wants to believe) and compelling adventure where the underdog overcomes incrediable odds. There is a touch of magic-realism in this tale that Sacher has skillfully executed. Sachar's writing is so good that he 1/ won the Newbury Medal and 2/ easily convinces the reader to suspend disbelief. I am sending a copy of this book to my 10-year-old godson and carefully keeping my copy for when my 3-year-old son will be old enough to enjoy it. My husband, who thinks he is a comedian, says, "the plot was full of Holes". He loved the book, too.

Summary: Holes
Review: Knowing that you were innocence for a crime that that was done doesn't always mean your innocence. Well Stanley Yelnats knew better when a pair of shoes literally fell on his head. After he was convicted of stealing a pair of shoes that belong to Clyde Livingston all just went downhill from there, thanks to his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great grandfather. As for Stanley, the judge gave him a choice of either going to Jail or CAMP GREEN LAKE, a place that is beyond nightmare and hell combined. When Stanley arrived he wondered why are there many holes? As he met Mr. Sir he was told that all the boys are building character from digging holes but like wise the kids weren't digging to build character, but in fact they were digging for something else.

Summary: Awe snap this book rocked
Review: I am a reader who could not find a very good book to read. Then my friend told me about Holes. At first I thought this book stunk. I looked at it and thought, wow a guy who digs holes every day so I thought I would be wasting my time. But no I ended up reading it and loved it so much I finished it in 4 days. I recommend this book to everyone and I know that you will love it. I liked this book because i would always want to find out more every night before I went to bed. This book was well written and I liked how Stanley cared so much about his friends he would give his life for his friends. If you want a book to read than read Holes by Louis Sachar.

Summary: One of the best books ever
Review: Yesterday(4/30) I saw the movie "Holes" with my mother. I honestly loved the whole movie. On Saturday (4/26), my sister told me to take some books home from college for her. On the way home, I read "Holes". It was fascinating. Before I went to bed at 11pm,I had finished the whole book. I just couldn't wait to see the movie and picture these actors in these roles as I read the book.

Anyone who is anyone should pick up a copy at their local library and read it. It will make you feel like a little kid again.
