Rating: Summary: Thip Holes Review: Stanley Yelnats was the main person in the story. He was a boy that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They thought he had stolen sweet feet shoes. He told the judge that the shoes had fallen from the sky. They didn't believe him and he told him that he can go to jail or to Camp Green Lake. He told the judge tha he had never been to camp.
Rating: Summary: Stanley Yelnats' Story Review: "Holes" is a novel aimed at the 10-through 12 year-old reader. It is about Stanley Yelnats, a sad-sack teen who gets sent to a youth camp for supposedly stealing a pair of sneakers. The camp is in the middle of a desert, and the daily routine for the inmates consists of digging a five foot deep hole in the hard, dry earth. The mysterious warden believes a treasure was buried there and wants the boys to find it. Stanley slowly adjusts to the rigors of daily desert digging and makes friends with his campmates - a motley assortment of delinquents that includes "Zero," who wants to learn to read and write. This is an entertaining story. Unfortunately, the author starts weaving flashbacks to Stanley's great grandfather and to a frontier town that used to stand where the camp is now. These flashbacks are inserted in the story without any visible separation; there are no page changes, no italics, nothing to differentiate between a flashback and the Stanley-story. I found it off-putting as a style, and the flashbacks were confusing and dull, as well. The author is a man of very few words, and I found the book much less satisfying than the pleasant film version. Children are the intended audience, however, and several 12 year-olds have told me they loved the book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book Review: This book is a great book for anyone who likes a good read. I did this book for a book report and its very interesting but easy to follow for begeiner readers too. A++++++++
Rating: Summary: Holes is one of the best books I have every read! Review: Holes is a first-rate novel that keeps you reading until the last page. Stanley Yelnats is a teenage boy who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is all because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealin-great-great-grandfather, who, a while back, disappointed the wrong lady. Stanley is mistaken for taking a pair of shoes (not just any ordinary shoes) from a homeless shelter. After pleading his innocence to the judge, he is thought to be disturbed, and gets a choice to go to jail, or to Camp Green Lake. He takes the offer to go to camp, thinking anyhting called Camp Green Lake cant be that bad, but once he gets there he finds out he was terribly wrong. First of all, there is no lake. Second, he learns of deadly lizards that will kill you if they bite you. Always. He has to dig a hole every day that is five feet deep, and five feet in diameter. He is told the digging is to build character, but as mysterious objects are found that the Warden seems very interested in, Stanley starts to believe there is an even bigger reason. He may even be able to break his family curse.
Rating: Summary: Do you like adventures? Review: Adventures are great to read about. Well, the book I read is an amazing adventure. There's a boy named Stanley Yelnats; he's accused of something he didn't do. So he's sent to Camp Green Lake (juvenile camp.) It's not really the adventure he's on but, the one you're on. There's a special theme through-out the story. This theme is "Bad behavior and bad choices get you punished." Stanley did bad things in his life but nothing to get him in Juvenile Camp. The setting takes place in Camp Green Lake in Texas. Camp Green Lake is a dry dusty lpace. There's not even a lake. lThere's a plot in this story. The plot is the problem which is Stanley is looking for something but he doesn't know what he's looking for. He can't seem to figure it out. The story also tells you about Stanley's amazing family and about their past. Holes was interesting story to read about.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER! Review: The book I read was called Holes. I think think the movie made more sense to me than the book.It was a great book. The setting was described enough for me to understand that Stanley got hit with a pair of shoes and was sent on a bus to Camp Green Lake. In the book Stanley was fat. It doesn't seem believable to me that a fat kid could carry Zero up a mountain. Zero is a kid at camp. He is short and his real name is Hector. Stanley is heavy and poor. In the plot everything tied together. Like, the peaches from Ms.Katherine to Sam was what the sploosh was that Zero found in the boat. I think that the theme was the curse. The curse caused the whole book. Madam Zeroni casted that curese on Stanley's no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealin-great-grandfather.Most of the things that happened were caused by the curse. That which made the book and movie very good. It is the best book I ever read.
