Summary: Holes is the best book
Review: I really liked this book it has unforgettable charecters and a great plot. It is about Stanley Yelnats who has horrible luck and is always at the wrong place at the wrong time. He gets sent to Camp Green Lake, where boys dig holes to develop charecter. Stanley must find the mystery of why they are digging and end the curse on his family. It is a great book and got my brother in to reading.

Summary: Holes, Digging in...
Review: When it comes to a book like Holes I dont even know where to start. I could start with the exciting plots, twists in the story, or maybe even the fabulous ending. Not only did Holes keep my attention through the 2 days it took me to read it, and trust me that is a big accomplishment in my reading carreer, but it also dragged me into to the vividly described settings. I came to care about each of the main characters, and hate all of the not so lovable ones. What color is Zero's hair, and why is his name Zero? I can answer any question thrown out there, and all because the author took the time to include all the details that helped make it a great story. Plus, as all great books should, I spent my time reading it traveling through a desert, digging holes with blistered hands, and sleeping in a cot that who knows sweated in! With great care the author was able to slyly switch between plots, characters, and storylines, while all the while maintaining some truth, and the same amount of exicting as the other set! Holes was a book that shouldn't be missed, and after you read it, you'll be back again diggin' them holes 'til the book is done!

Summary: great book!
Review: My students wanted to read it...but the school library said they were too young. So before I felt that I could reccomend it to the parents, I had to read it myself. It was GREAT! The various threads of the story wind to a great conclusion. After reading it, I felt that it was appropriate for my students (3rd) grade...any of the students who wouldn't want to read or it couldn't understand the story would put it down rather quickly.

Summary: A Review for Adults who like Children's Lit
Review: I had never heard of this book but recently Entertainment Weekly described it as "a property that's almost as hot as 'Potter.'" I still read some childrens' books, partially for the nostalgia of books I loved as a child (E. Nesbit and so on) and partially because they are considered great new books (Phillip Pullman, for example). So I checked "Holes" out of the library and read it.

It is disappointingly slim - for a book that was compared to the Potter books, I expected a read of reasonable length - yet Holes took me all of 1.5 hours to read, and that included interludes to deal with my toddler, phone calls and so on. Still, I wanted to get to the end of it and see how it was.

In the end I considered this to be an interesting children's short story. There are nifty aspects to the story that pop up throughout. It is resolved satisfactorily and in keeping with most childrens' "feel-good" book endings. But I just can't consider this a "hot property." I'd not consider purchasing it. My son is only three, so he won't understand it yet - and I don't believe it will continue to be a "classic of children's literature" (if you can call it that) when he gets old enough to enjoy it.

Yes, I know it's won awards, and I'm happy for the author. A movie has been made, and it appears it is shorter to read the book than to sit through the movie! Certainly a cinematic first. Well, read and enjoy, but don't expect a lot. For "a property as hot as 'Potter'" I was rather disappointed.

Summary: get 'em to read
Review: As a high school English teacher, I am constantly trying to get my students to read. When one of my students asked if I had the book I said, "No, but I will get it!" After recieving the book, I sat and read it. I couldn't put it down. Imagine my surprise when I went to take the book to school and found my husband reading it! I have known him for 10 years and have never seen him touch a book except to use it as a coaster! Now my students must wait for him to finish it! In school, my husband was one that hated to read. For him to pick it up and not want to give it up until he was finished is incredible!!

Summary: Absolutely AWESOME!!!
Review: This book was so totally GOOD! My friend told me about it 'cause her class was reading it, and she said it was really good, so I bought it, and she was right! My new fave book! Plus, it is one of the first books that has a movie that does not have many variations from the book. If you have not read the book, read it, then go see the movie!

Summary: A creative and compelling adventure novel
Review: Wow! This is a great book. It begins with a boy named Stanley Yelnats (the fourth) who has gone to Camp Greenlake, a juvinile delinquit camp, because he was accused of stealing Clide "sweet feet" Livingston's donated shoes. At the camp, the boys are forced to dig holes, five feet wide and five feet deep, to help "build character." Or so they think. Throughout the book, the chapters alternate between past and present, and the reader finds out what they are really digging for.
At the camp, Stanley meets the other boys, all with nicknames like Zigzag, Magnet, X-ray, Armpit, Zero, and Squid, and gets one of his own:Caveman. He doesn't really hit it off with the boys at first, except for Zero.
Things aren't too bad, wake up, eat breakfast, dig holes, eat dinner, go to bed.....until Zero runs away from the camp, the "only" watersource in 100 miles. Then it's up to Stanley to rescue him.
This review doesn't cover even half of this amazing book's potential. This is SUCH A GREAT BOOK!! I DEFINATELY reccomend it! It is not, under any circumstances a waste of money, so GO AND BUY IT!!!
