Summary: Holes "Must Read"
Review: Holes by: Louis Sachar is ideally for the young adult age group but I would recommend everyone to read it. I think it's a must read. It's an enjoyable book about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who is sent to a Detention Facility Camp Green Lake located in a dried up desert in Texas with little water around. He is there because he was accused of stealing shoes from a homeless shelter. Camp is to help him and the other campers spend time digging holes for work and building character in the process. But Stanley doesn't have very good luck at camp. His luck relates back to his 'no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather!' and the luck he had, they were just always in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is a well-written book by a great author that makes it fun to read his work. Reading this book makes you want to read more to find out what happens in the story. It's a fast young adult book that is a must read. If you haven't seen the movie I would recommend reading the book first then see the movie and compare the two. The overall impression I had on this book was real high it is a book that interested me and kept me entertain and it was boring like some books I have read. Holes was awesome if I would of rated it on a scale 1 to 5, 5 being the best I would give it a 5 because it was a great book with good detail and explaining things in a fun way. I think after reading this book I want to read more by Louis Sachar because he writes great books.

Summary: COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!
Review: This book is fun to read! One that just can't be put down! Not too long...not too short...not extremely complicated...but yet somehow very satisfying...the characters are colorful and maybe a bit odd on the edges, yet realistic and loveable...a different and somewhat comical storyline with excitement and adventure and a few serious messages about people and society with a little bit of the Old West thrown in for excitement...keeps things interesting throughout...AND top it off with a happy ending! You can't beat it. If you do decide to actually read one of the books your instructors assign for class and this book is on the list for class reading...READ IT!

Summary: Robert Daniel, Bak Middle School of the Arts
Review: Think for a moment, what would it feel like to dig holes all day; each of the holes you dig must be five feet across and five feet deep; your shovel is your measuring instrument, and your doing all of this just to build "Character". Camp Green Lake is where you would be your current location, and this was the only source of water for miles. You are allowed to run, the counselors will not stop you, because they know you will come back in search for water.
Stanley Yelnats was an ordinary kid until one day after school; he was hit in the head by a pair of Clyde Livingston's baseball shoes. He was told by a judge he must go to either prison, or camp Green Lake. Stanley Had never been to a camp before. He thought it would be fun. He was wrong. Stanley and Zero have to go through many obstacles in order to reach what matters most.
Holes is a book written by Lois Sachar. This book is about loyalty, trust, and determination. The way this book displays loyalty, and trust is the way Zero stays with Stanley no matter what happens. And determination is shown in the way the boys dig the holes, even in the heat of the day.
I gave this book 5 stars because of the way Mr. Sachar gives a good plot that comes along with a lot of twists. What will happen next, unfortunately, I cannot tell you, "You will have to fill in the Holes."

Summary: Surprisingly Good!
Review: Okay, I'll admit it: I'm 15 years old. Also, before reading this book, I never even considered going to see the movie. To those who have never read this book, I may seem too old for it. But you're wrong. This book has become one of my favorites, and I would recommend it to anyone!... Go ahead people -- read the book and see the movie! I promise you won't regret it! :D

Summary: Fantastic Book!
Review: This is a great book, I have always tried to get my 11 year old daughter more interested in reading. This is the first book she has read in less than a week and it is 200++ pages. She became so wrapped up in Stanley and his troubles and then to have it end the way it did she was cheering out loud for him. As she says, she has "the reading bug", and now has picked up another great book to read.

Summary: Stanley's Life Gets Dug Up
Review: "Holes," by Louis Sachar, was an amazing book. Normally I do not read young adult books, but I had heard so many good things about it, that I gave it a chance. Everything in the plot fit together perfect. Stanley Yelnats starts out as an uncontrollable teen-age kid. He learns a lesson in life by going to Camp Green Lake and having to dig holes 24/7. The holes had to be exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. After finding something in a hole, he becomes very suspicious to the fact that they are not just digging to build character. He dug deeper and tried to figure out what truly was going on. It all fits together and turns out to be a great story and alos had an awesome ending. It had a good case of foreshadowing also, which involved a suitcase with his name on it. The book was so exciting and I never wanted to put it down because of the action-packed adventure that was involved in it. I strongly suggest anyone who wants to read a well-written young adult book to read this one. The book will not leave you unsatisfied. It has everything it needs to leave the audience in awe.

Summary: Holes: Digging for something Deep
Review: Holes is the quintessential tale of a young boy, accused of theft, and the challenges that await him as he is a "camper" at Camp Green Lake. It is almost the Shawshank Redemption for the young-aged audience. Boy convicted of crime, boy pays for crime, boy goes to correctional facility, boy makes friends, warden is a corrupt person, boys has mental and physical hardships, the usual story. Holes is appealing to children because of its fast pace excitement and humor, but adults also like it because of its values, themes and morals that could reflect that of modern society.
Holes is a book that would be aimed at the 8 to 14 age range because its keeps their interest throughout the book. The literary elements that are most frequent and popular are its plot and character development. Holes contains all the appropriate plot elements, the rising action, the climax, falling action, and conclusion (even though it was a little weak). Another aspect of the book that keeps it interesting is the way the characters are. The characters are so different in their personalities, appearance, and attitude.
The book was an enjoyable one to read because of its feel-good aspect. You could only root for the 'good guys' and hope that everything came out all right. At one point or another, the book would be hitting all cylinders, and captured every audience member in its magic.

Summary: Holes
Review: I gave this book a five because I thought this book fit me well. I enjoy mysterious, and funny books. this book was perfect for me. Louis Sachar did a wonderful writing the book and characters , he give a very extensive background of the main character Stanley Yelnats, and sets the scenes very well using imagery and descriptive diction. Stanley Yelnats is just a very unlucky boy, who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is walking under a bridge and a pair of shoes falls on his head. He take the shoes not knowing that the shoes where just stolen. A police officer stops Stanley, see him holding the shoes and arrests him on the spot. Stanley has to go to Camp Green Lake, this is his punishment. The is a dried up lake bed, and it is not so green anymore. AT the camp Stanley meets the head counselor Mr. Sir. Mr. Sir tells Stanley that at the camp they do anything except dig holes. They say that digging holes builds character, and respect. Stanley has to dig these holes until his sentence is up, mean while he meets the other boys and tries to make friends with them. He only makes on friend Zero. The two boys develop and good friendship. Later on the story takes a few twists for the better and the worse. Stanley and zero run away from the camp, into the hot dessert. The only problem with them running away is they have no water to drink. Stanley and Zero find a patch of onions and a pool of water in the mountains. The two boys camp out on the mountain until they gain their strength back. From here the book gets real interesting. Louis Sachar uses foreshadowing to make the book more interesting and suspenseful, he also uses descriptive diction to set scenes, and describing all the characters. I really enjoyed this book I would recommend this story to anyone who loves to read a exciting and suspenseful books.
