Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Tremendously entertaining read Review: This "children's book" is awesome for both children and adults.Laugh-out-loud hilarious, moving, surprisingly suspenseful, and thought-provoking. In many ways, it reminds me of vintage Charles Dickens. You will be cheering for the underdogs, really, really loathing the bad guys, and smiling at the ultimate resolution of the story, improbable though it may be. I loved, loved, loved this book, and I bet you will, too!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I read the book 2 or 3 times Review: I am a 4th grader and I read the book in 2003. It was the best book I have EVER read. My favorite characters were; Zero, and X-ray. The adventures were thrilling expecially when Stanley carried Zero up the mountain and when Stanley stole Mr. Sir's truck. I wish there were more hole stories. "Holes II" get it written!! I can't wait.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes is great Review: Holes is great, every detail ties together, an everything starts out good within the first 20 pages. Not only is the plot good, but the style of conveying information is great also. The author make sure to leave enough facts to leave you wondering, but doesn't give anything away. Louis Sachar has created a mystifying novel in Holes. The plot takes the reader to many different times and lands in order to get information. Most of the story takes place in Camp Green Lake. But even the times outside of Camp Green Lake are just as satisfying as the time inside. Stanley Yelnats is cursed because of his great grandfather's carelessness and sent to a juvenile character building center. Even worse, every day he has to dig a hole 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. How will Stanley Yelnats save himself from the eternal curse placed on his family over 100 years ago.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: I am a teacher candidate at West Virginia State College and this was a wonderful book to read. I literally finished it in four hours. It is one of those books that keeps you wandering. There is always something interesting to find out in each page. I recommend this book to adults as well as children since it has an important meaning behind it that we all can relate to. Sometimes bad luck is just a disguise for good luck.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Not just for children.... Review: This book about "juveniles" is decidedly "adult" and, in my opinion, ranks with John Knowles' A Separate Peace as another great story about some of the challenges faced by young men. Sachar's writing style is rhythmic and he adeptly tells two converging stories without tipping the reader off ahead of time as to where the paths will cross - a skill uncommon and absent with many modern writers. This book should be on every junior high school's reading list!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Way Better than Harry Potter Review: I thought this book would be boring. I mean there's not much you can say about holes. I only read it because my brother's friend had brought it from school and left it at our house. I saw the preview for the movie so I figured I'd give the book a try and I for one must say it was excellent. I didn't go to bed until 4:30am last night ( thank goodness it wasn't a school night) because I couldn't put it down. It was one of the first books I've read in a long time that kept me wanting to read it and interested the whole time. The characters are very easy to related to and lifelike. The book is also nicely paced, not too fast or slow moving at all. Something I liked was that while the setting is supposed to be a detention center it is still humorous and decent without all of that stuff you usually get with these settings. In short, no drugs, alcohol, sex, or any of that stuff. Another thing is that there are no loose ends. Throughout the book every situation is explained so your not sitting there thinking " Huh? Why did that happen?" or " Who is that person?". I've read the Harry Potterbooks and no offense Rowling but Sachar puts your books to shame. And he's able to do it without all that techanical fantasy stuff. Sure there's a little something enchanting about the story Holes, but it is mostly real life making it easy for real people to related to along with a twist of fiction. I only wish that freaking Harry Potter story would have come to a closing and that this book could have been a series. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to everyone looking for a great read.
