Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Strange but thought provoking Review: I bought this book for my 13 year old son. He read it in one afternoon and we had a good discussion about the choices made by the main characters. He wanted me to read it, too. So I did. Interesting. Some parental discussion is useful because the situation in the book is quite extreme.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It had them hanging on to every word! Review: What a mesmerizing read-aloud for my fifth graders! My kids thoroughly enjoyed the tale of friendship and growing up (with a few lessons on morals thrown in) and I delighted in reading it out loud each day these past two weeks. The class voted to eat lunch silently two days in a row in order to hear more, which was a real challenge for those with Doritos! Halfway through--right in Chapter 28--I stopped at the part where Kissin' Kate had a rifle aimed two inches from her nose; I snapped the book shut and pointed to their desks, "Go. Continue the story as you think Louis Sacher did." Amidst grumbles and gasps and even an accusation of child "abuse" of sorts, they churned out great pages which I will send the author. We will finish the last chapter tomorrow after they sketch a favorite scene. I feel like serving raw onions and sunflower seeds for a snack. Where do I go from here?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Three cheers for Sachar! Review: Once again Louis Sachar has written a winner! This is one of his best for sure. I am an elementary school teacher and am thrilled to find a book that boys will enjoy as well as girls. There is humor, adventure, yet real life applications for those who care to think of them. Keep writing Sachar!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It is a great book. Review: I am fourth-grader. I got the book as a Christmas present. I think it is very entertaining, except when it talks just about everyday life. The best part of the book is when Stanley Yelnats runs away to find Zero. The author tells the readers things that the characters don't know, and that makes for suspense. There is a lot of suspense at the end when you have to use your imagination to fill the "holes" in the story.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: best book I've ever read Review: If you like a little mystery and a little suspence mixed in with a lot of great writing this is the book for you. I've read a lot of good books in my little life, but this was the best.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Stanley Yenats is the main character. He stole shoes. Review: In this book Stanley Yelnats is accused of stealing shoes. The shoes belonged to Stanley's roll model Clyde "Sweet feet" Livingston. However when Stanley took the shoes he had no idea who they belonged to. Stanley took the shoes because he thought they might help his father who was trying to find a way to recycle old sneakers. When he was arrested he was sent away to camp Green Lake. This was a camp for kids who had done something bad. Here you had to dig a hole five feet deep and five feet in diameter every. At camp Green Lake everyone had a nickname. Armpit, X-ray, Squid, & some others. Stanley's nickname was Caveman. After Stanley was at camp Green Lake for a while he began teaching someone whose nicknname was Zero how to read. Caveman and Zero get to be good friends. When Zero runs away Stanley tries to find him. Eventually Stanley & Zero will find Stanley's Great Grandfather's fortune. To find out what hapens next READ THE BOOK!!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book is a circle, as is Stanley Yelnats' name! Review: Adored the interweaving of family histories, the humor and irony of the book. If it were in paperback, I'd buy a whole set for a literature circle with my class!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Louis Sachar has once again written a story you won't forget Review: "Holes" is the story of a boy named Stanley Yelnats who when is falsly convicted of stealing is sent to a juvinal detention center called Camp Green Lake in Texas. While there, he and the other boys are forced to dig a hole a day, five feet in every direction. As the story goes on, you not only learn more about Stanley's life, but can actually begin to understand what torture he and his friends, such as Zero, had to go through in order to survive.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is a book for fans of Jerry Spinelli or Gary Paulsen. Review: There's action, good character development, and the sort of breathless, choppy prose that makes the story seem very real to middle schoolers. I thought immediately of Jerry Spinelli. Then, as I read to the climax of the tale, it seemed just as tense as any Gary Paulsen survival story. My nephew, only in fourth grade, loved it, and I loved it as I spent the morning reading it (I couldn't very well take his Christmas present with me when I left). I need it for my seventh and eighth grade students. They'll love it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Yet a wonderful book by Louis Sachar! Review: I just finished reading this unique book and I thought it was just GREAT! It's original and has a well-planned scheme. I recommend everyone to read it.
