Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Holes is about a young boy accused of stealing. Review: HOLES by Louis Sacher " Why did my great grandfather steal that stupid old pig?," thought Stanley as he dug his first hole. Stanley knew that his family was cursed with bad luck, and that bad luck made him wind up at Camp Green Lake. There young delinquent boys dig holes to build character. As he gets to know the camp he meets new friends, like X-ray, Magnet, Armpit, and Zero. He also meets Mr. Pendenski and Mr. Sir. When he finds a gold tube, he begins to suspect that they were doing more than building character. Than Stanley's friend Zero couldn't stand digging holes anymore, and he runs away into the desert. " Do any of you boys want to run away too?, I want Zero's files erased, so he was never here!," explained the warden. Stanley had to go find Zero before it's too late! Holes by Louis Sacher is one of the best books I ever read. The setting and the characters were described so well that I actually thought I was there. The only part I didn't like was the ending. The ending wasn't as well written as the rest of the story, but I don't think it ruined the story at all. I really liked this book and I would reccomend it to 5th graders to adult.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: this was an above average book Review: Review of Holes From the day that Stanley Yelnats' "dirty rotten grandfather"stole the old pig of Madam Zeroni, the gypsy, his family was cursed with bad luck. He thinks that's what lead to his arrest. He was brought to Camp Green Lake after a pair of Clyde Livingston's old shoes fell from the sky. He picked them up, and since his father was working on a way to recycle old shoes, he thought it was a gift from god. Actually, Clyde's shoes fell from a truck that was going to help needy kids. Police found him, and he was accused of stealing the shoes. Then he got to Camp Green Lake, the hottest, most desolate place he's ever been. There he met Hector Zeroni (Zero), X-ray, Armpit, Barfbag, and more. A true all-star cast. I thought this was an excellent book. The characters were very developed, the surroundings were very realistic, the situations Stanley and Zero faced were very intense, the book was somewhat humorous, and the book just didn't go in sequence, it went back in the past even if you were in the middle of the book. THE END By, Erik Lackey
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It was great!!!!! Review: If you were in a dried up lake and was forced to dig holes all day...What Would You Do? 12 year-old Stanley Yelnats is in just that position. He and his friend Zero were put in a correctional facility named Camp Green Lake placed in Green Lake, Texas. They have to get up at 4:30 A.M. and dig a hole five feet deep and five feet wide in any direction. When one of the characters runs away, the other one is determined to get him/her back. So in short I liked the book. It was a very exciting book. Stanley is, I think, the best developed character in any books I have read recently. He and Zero were so realistic sometimes I thought I was at the camp too. Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski were, I think, the two best bad guys in any book I have ever read.

Louis Sachar has been known in the past to write not-so-great literature. Well, now's his chance to clear his name. READ THIS BOOK! This book is funny, clever, and exciting. Good job Louise!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A fantastic read, and not just for kids! Review: I'm 17, and I loved this book. My sisters, aged 14 and 11, both loved this book. The story encompasses over 100 years, and its breadth and the way it shifted back and forth reminded me sometimes of _Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe_. It reads like a modern fairy tale in its use of language, its larger than life yet somehow not unbelievable characters, the twists and turns of the story, and the obvious inevitability of _everything_ that happens. Every word makes you think "Of course..." as the story is unveiled, layer by layer, like an onion being peeled.
