Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Stanley Yelnats finds himself digging at Camp Green Lake Review: HOLES BY LOUIS SACHAR Digging, digging, digging, until the 5' wide 5' deep hole is done, a water truck stopping by periodically. Hot, sweating, thirsty, digging. Boys, digging, on a dried up lake far in the deserts of Texas, 100 miles away from the nearest town. One of the diggers, Stanley Yelnats, struck something picked it up and gave to X-ray, just like X-ray had told him to do. Stanley was falsely accused of stealing a baseball players shoes when they "fell out of the sky", or a bridge above him. He was sent to Camp Green Lake, a dried up desert lake where bad boys go to build character by digging, holes. But when Stanley finds a gold tube and the warden of the camp, the head of the camp (Mr.Sir) and Stanley's group leader Mr. Pendanski("mom") make a big deal about Stanley's find( They all think that it is X-ray's find) Stanley begins to wonder if the boys are digging for character, or something else. This story is all about how Stanley survives camp and the truth behind Green Lake. I like this book because it was well written, and many parts of the story were linked, and you had to pick them out. I disliked one of the characters, the Warden. She was mean, cruel and uncaring. This was a great book and I would recommend it to 6th graders and up. KateyJohnson=)

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Stanley Yelnats is sent to a discipline camp to dig holes. Review: Stanley Yelnats walks out of the boy's bathroom with a wet notebook. As he heads home from school, a pair of shoes fall from the sky. Well, not exactly. They fell from a highway above him. Like somebody just threw them out their car window as they drove by. Stanley decides to take them home to his father who is trying to find a way to recycle old shoes. The next thing he knows, Stanley is in court accused of stealing the baseball payer, Clyde Livingston's shoes. "They just fell from the sky," Stanley swears. But no one believes him. Stanley is sentenced to eighteen months at Camp Green Lake. Stanley's family has never had the money to send him to camp before, so he is kind of excited. When Stanley arrives at Camp Green Lake, in Texas, he sees no lake. Just hundereds of holes across the vast emptiness. Stanley finds out that the boys at the camp dig holes. One each day. Each hole must measure five feet wide and five feet deep. "This is not a girl scout camp," yells Mr. Sir. "We build character by digging holes!" Stanley meets Zero and starts teaching him to read and write. Zero is the fastest digger, so in return, he digs part of Stanley's hole. One day, Stanley starts to wonder. They can't be digging holes just to dig holes. And, whenever something is found, the Warden inspects it. The Warden owns Camp Green Lake. She has a cabin with two trees in front. The Warden owns the shade. One day, Zero runs away fom the camp. Everyone thougt that Zero loved digging holes, but they were wrong. Stanley feels it his duty to find Zero so he runs away too. He catches up with him and they find refuge on a mountain that looks like a thumb sticking up. They find onions and survive on them for a few days. Stanley tells Zero that they have to go back to Camp Green Lake. Maybe there's a treasure buried in the dried up lake and that's why the boys dig holes. But will Stanley and Zero find their way back to camp? Will they find a treasure? You'll have to read this book to find out.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I thought it was a very good book. Review: Ever since the day that Stanley Yelnats great great grandfather stole the pig of Madame Zeroni Stanley thinks that there is a curse on his family and thinks thats why he got arrested. When Stanley heard that he had to go to Camp Green Lake, Texas he didnt think that it would be that bad, but when he got there he found out that he had to dig a hole that was as wide and as deep as the shovel and he only got a little water each day.He also had to sleep on a cot that smelled like puke. The next day he found out that he was digging for a long time and had to dig in a very hot climate. When all of the other kids were done digging, Stanley wished that he was done too. After a few days of digging holes Stanley met the Warden, who was a very mean and grumpy lady, and Mr. Pendanski, who delivered the water to the kids who were digging holes. He also met all of the boys in his group including X-ray, who was a normal funny kid, and Zero who was a normal kid, but didnt know how to read and write. When Zero decided that he hated digging he took the shovel and hit Mr. Pendanski over the head then started running away. The next day Stanley decided to go find Zero. He walked for miles and found a boat that had something banging inside. Stanley called out and waited after a few seconds Zero came out and told Stanley to come under the boat. When Stanley went under the boat they had something to drink that Zero called sploosh. After that Stanley convinced Zero to go back to camp so they started walking. Trying not to stop they continued walking for miles until they found a mountain that looked like a giant thumb. They walked until they came to the mountain and began to climb. When they almost reached the top Zero dropped his shovel, but was to tired to go get it. When they finally reached the top, they found water and onions. It is amazing how onions and water can save two boys on a mountain.

So he decides to make a deal with Stanley. His deal was that hed dig Stanley hole for him so that Stanley would have the strength to teach him how to read. Then one day Zero runs away because he doesnt want to dig anymore holes. Four days pasted and Zero is still gone. Stanley is wondering if Zero is still alive or if hes dead. So he decides to go look for Zero. When he finds Zero there wasnt any water and wasnt anything to eat. Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It's obvious why this book is a winner! Review: Amazing. You will start out with a no good rotten pig theft and a Zeroni curse for all of the Yelnats'. Next come a "hole" bunch of problems that rise to the surface when being dug up by the bad boys of Green Lake camp in Texas. The choice was digging or jail. What would you choose? They chose Green Lake, because as the judge said, there aren't open spaces often at Green Lake. "It's not a girl scout camp," Mr. Sir told Stanley. The boys in tents A, B, C, D, and E have to dig a hole that's the shovel wide and the shovel deep.(5'x5') Who would want to go there? Stanley didn't. With a bottle of sploosh and some stinky onions, all of the problems are filled in. I'd definitely have at least one "big thumb" up for this book !
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: I think the book was very good. Review: HOLES Stanley Yelnats was put into a camp called Camp Green Lake in Texas, but it was actually a correction center for bad kids. What would you do and how would you get out of a place with no water for a hundred miles? All day you have to dig holes five feet deep and five feet wide in relentless heat , with hardly any water. Stanley thinks it is all because of his "dirty rotten pig stealen great great grandfather". I like this book because all the pieces of the story fit together. The characters were very real, and Louis Sachar made everything feel like your were in it. By Tyler Linell
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Holes is about a boy accused of stealing shoes. Review: It all started when Stanley Yelnats was accused of stealing Clyde Livingston's shoes. "Go to jail or camp," the judge had said. Stanley picked camp, Camp Green Lake. When my class read Holes by Louis Sachar, I felt as if I were there. In the hot, barren desert area of Camp Green Lake,Texas, where the story takes place,Stanley was sent to dig holes. He had claimed that his rotten, pig stealing great grandfather had been cursed, and that the whole Yelnats family had been cursed too, cursed with bad luck. That's why he was here at Camp Green Lake. Every day, Stanley has to dig one hole, five feet wide and five feet deep. While digging one day, Stanley uncovers a golden tube with K.B. inscribed on the bottom. "If you find anything interesting report it to me, if I like it I'll show it to the Warden. If the Warden likes it, you'll get the day off," Mr. Sir, (Stanley's counselor)had said. Stanley suspects that he is digging more that "to build character," they might be looking for treasure! I liked Holes because I thought the setting went well with the plot. The book was written so it made you want to keep going and going and never stopping. The characters were well drawn, and seemed so real that they came alive. The only thing I didn't like was the ending. It left you in the air with questions that weren't answered. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone, and I can clearly see that they would enjoy it.
