Summary: This ironic, poetic, fabulous story ain't just for kids!
Review: A lovely piece of black comedy with light at the end of the tunnel!! This book is touted as a children's book, but it's a bit much for the average kid, and definitely beyond sub-average readers. Meticulously structured, this tale blends realism and legend into a wondrous gypsy recipe.

The stench of foot odor, pigs, and onions come up against Kissin' Kate Barlow's spiced peaches. And love and the underdogs finally prevail against an ancient curse and a modern obsession. It's funny, painful, sweet/sad and strange.

A richly complex, compulsive page-turner of a story, which comes together bit by bit, hole by hole, to make a whole, horrifying, satisfying tale.

Summary: How can words explain how great this liturature is?
Review: This was the best book I've ever read! I'm 11 and I think this story is a story about true courage, and it way just amazing. About a boy who is wrongly accused and goes to Camp Green Lake for punishment. He has to dig a five foot wide and long whole in the blazing sun of Texas.

Summary: CURSED BY THEIR ANCESTORS
Review: WOW--Summer camp was never like this--fortunately! How could the crooks get away with it all those years: false imprisonment, exploitation of child labor, psychological cruelty and physical torture, poison, destruction of state records, etc? Poor Stanley--fat, social pariah, falsly accused of the theft of some smelly sneakers; then sentenced to 18 months of digging holes in a dried-up lakebed in the Texas boonies. Enough to make you want to spit!

No one would choose Stanley Yelnats IV to be the kid to break the system. Or a gypsy curse. But how long can we blame our ancestors for present problems and our own failures? Can a jinx truly be inherited? Why are the kids Really up at 4:30 am to dig holes 5 feet deep? Is more than just "Character" being molded in the desert?

But this social flop will undergo a physical and mental metamorphosis at barren Camp Green Lake. How can he make friends among the state's worst bullies and hoodlums? His misadventures at this juvenile correctional facility will keep readers fascinated, guessing future events and in stitches, trying to interpret the clues. You'll trip over multiple coincidences like discarded dirt mounds, but Sachar's dry wit and generous dialogue alleviate literary thirst. This book is delightful, for readers of all ages!

Summary: an exciting and fun book for all ages
Review: it was a excellent book i really enjoyed it. my teacher introduced it to me and we read it as a class. it started off kind of confusing to me then it turned completely around. at the end it all ended up as one big circle ( that is if you paid atention to what you are reading ) the main characters are stanley yelnats ( his name is a palindrome : a word(s) that can be spelled both forward and backward) zero the rest of tent-D, mr. pendanski, mr. sir, and the warden. stanley was accused of stealinng clyde livingstons shoes. he really didn't zero took them from a homeless shelter and set them on top of a car. the car drove away and as stanley was walking under a highway bypass they fell off the car and onto his head. a cop saw them and arrested him. he got sent to camp green lake and wasn't guilty. the rest you will have to find out your self because i want you to get the book and read it. it is an excellent book. it would even interest adults.

Summary: A Must-Read For Everyone!
Review: Holes is a book everyone should read. It is adventurous and exciting. I had to read it as an assignment for school. We were supposed to read 2-4 chapters every day but it was so good, I read it in 2 days. Holes is about an overweight kid named Stanley who was wrongly accused of stealing Clyde Livingston's sneakers. Instead of going to jail, he went to Camp Green Lake, a camp for bad boys. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. It is like a desert. The boys must dig a hole 5 feet in every direction. It is supposed to build character, but that's not what they are really doing. Want to know what they are digging for?! Read Louis Sachar's best book yet to find out!

Summary: This book is going to make you dig holes.
Review: This is a book about a kid named Stanley who is accused of stealing a pair of a famous baseball player's shoes, so he has a choice of going to jail or going to Camp Green Lake to dig holes. The people think that digging holes make you more smart. But all they are doing is making the kids try to dig up a treasure. This camp has groups A-F. Stanley is put in group D. Group D has kids that make up nicknames like Barf Bag, X-Ray, Zero, Magnet, and Stanley's name was Caveman because they thought he was so fat and big. Don't think this is going to be funny like Wayside School. This is serious and don't read it if you don't like a little violence. This is a very good book.
