Summary: Very good, very easy
Review: Holes was a very good book, though I found it extremely easy. The many flashbacks and connections throughout the plotkept me mesmorized for more than hours at a time. I often found myself lying awake at night, with a flashlight in hand, and Holes in my lap. The characters were brought to life by Sachar, and I could easily put faces of people I know to the characters of Holes. However, it was never a challenge, and I would recommend it to elementary school children as a good book. I would also recomend it to anyone that is in distress, or is worried about one thing or another, because it will give you hope for your problems, as hope came to Stanley Yelnats when he was in distress.

-Thomas Williams, rising 8th grader

A great book.

Summary: Praise Louis Sachar for this phenomenal work of art!
Review: I fell in love with Louis Sachar when I read his Wayside trilogy. When I learned that he had a new, more serious book out, I was quite curious and purchased it immediately. Not only was I captivated by his brilliant storytelling, but I was fascinated by the way it all fit together so perfectly. This book is definately worthy of its Newberry Award, and I highly encourage you to add it to your library.

Summary: Wonderful,Best Book...Deserves a 10 star!
Review: This book is the most deserving book of the Newberry Award yet.Louis Sachar weaves a tale that intertwines with the past and I,personally, was up till almost 3 in the morning reading. This is right up there with the Harry Potter books.I am a book-worm and have probably read....so many books I cant even guess.4 sure this ranks in my top 10s of all time.

Summary: Mr. Sachar, how are you doing today?
Review: I realy enjoied your book Holes. I liked the part when Stanleys great great great pig stealing grandfather wanted to mary the princes. Then when he went to the jipsy and asked for help. Then she said to take one verry little special pig up a mountain and sing to it while letting it drink water from the stream. I also liked the part at the end when Stanley and Zero were stuck in hole full of yellow spoted lizards. I sure would hate to be one of them. If I was one of them I would probably wet my pants or just faint. At the end I was glad Stanley and Zero got to go home from Camp Green Lake.

Summary: "Holes" cleverly combines past with present in original way.
Review: The reader doesn't know why Stanley is in the detention camp or why he and the other boys are being forced to dig holes every day. These two "mysteries", and the way Mr. Sachar deftly shifts from the past to the present day as the story unfolds immediately draw the reader into the action. Louis Sachar is really telling two stories; one from the past and one from the present day. Each story needs the other to be complete and each parallels the other in surprising, and sometimes funny ways. This book is a breath of fresh air in children's literature! I read "Holes" for the first time to a class of fifth graders and all 32 of us were completely spellbound. In fact, they would have been totally happy if I had just read the book non-stop. Louis Sachar is without equal as a writer of children's literature--and I know 31 fifth graders who feel the same way!

Summary: How I Rated "Holes"
Review: I really likes this book, I would have gave it five stars, but I've read better. The main thing I like about this book is the climax. I think this book should deserve a medal for the best climax. If anymore to say, this was a really good book. -Maria Barragan
