There's a Holes movie but the book has more detail. This book is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who gets sent to Camp Green Lake to dig holes. There's no Lake at Camp Green Lake. It's a desert. No water for 100 miles. Stanley is sent there because every one thinks he stole a famous baseball players shoes. At camp green lake you have to dig holes five feet deep and five feet wide. Holes are a great book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: Holes Louis Sachar's Holes is a compelling story about a boy who is wrongly accused of stealing a pair of baseball cleats. He is sent to Camp Green Lake and is forced to dig holes for his evil warden. The rules are very simple to Camp Green Lake: Dig holes, eat, and sleep for only five hours a night. If you were to find anything interesting, it should be reported to the warden for an opportunity for a whole day off from digging holes. Stanley's first hole to dig is the worst of his life. His hands get blisters and callouses because he is not allowed to wear gloves. The holes must be 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. If they are not that exact size, the boys wil be sentenced to dig 3 more holes. This award-winning novel is sure to take your breath away. Louis Sachar packs in a whole lot of adventure for the boys and he writes a great story of Stanley as a hero. Louis Sachar's other books include There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom. Compared with the Holocaust, Holes comes pretty close. Without all of the killing though. Hitler is just as mean as the Warden at Camp Green Lake. I would recommend Holes to people who like adventure stories. The intended reading ages range from 11-14.

In this novel Sachar takes a part of his life background to make the setting. It is set in present day Texas in a deserted camp called "Camp Green Lake" that is out in the middle of no where. The main character Stanley is a boy who gets accused of stealing Clyde "Sweetfeet" Livingston's red shoes that Clyde donated to an orphanage. So at court he gets a choice of to go to jail or camp. Like any kid who came from a poor family, he chose camp. When Stanley arrives he befriends a boy named Zero, who can't read or write. They made a deal that if Zero digs Stanley's hole, Stanley will help him learn. From then on in the book they are introduced to friendship, betrayal, and adventure. Sachar's novel is a page turner from beginning to end. Once you read "Holes" you'll want to read it again and again or go watch the movie that just came out to a video rental near you.

And this is all because of his great-great grandfather stealing a pig. While his father is trying to invent something to bring in some money for the family, Stanley Yelnats is trying to get by with his bad luck. While walking under a bridge one day, a pair of shoes just falls out of nowhere. Little does Stanley know, but the shoes are stolen shoes. Once caught by the police, Stanley is sent to a Boys Correctional Center in the middle of a desert wasteland. Everyday the boys must dig holes 3 feet wide and 3 feet deep in the blistering heat. I specifically like the struggle of digging the first hole. Stanley and his new found friends go through many different adventures that you will experience through Stanley's perspective. You'll never want to put down this page-turning adventure. Intended Audience Age 10-14
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes By Louis Sachar Review: Louis Sachar's HOLES is not just another teenage comedy. Although when you read the first chapter or two, you may think it will be, it most certainly is not. Stanley Yelnats or "Caveman" is caught with a pair of stolen sneakers. He is arrested, tried, and sent to a prison camp. At the camp, they have the kids dig holes to "build character". Since Stanley never had the chance to go to any camp, he expects it to be fun. Right away he meets the warden and thinks she is nice, even if the other guys in his tent say she's mean. X-Ray is a loud-mouth who runs the tent Stanley is in. Zero is quiet and becomes Stanley's friend. Because Zero is a fast digger, he and Stanley make a deal that Zero will dig Stanley's holes if Stanley teaches him to read and write. Stanley is always battling himself because some of the things he must do, like give away the chance to take a break all day from digging, he doesn't approve of, but he does it anyways. I really enjoy the characters but, because there are so many, and some seem the same, it's difficult to keep track fo them. This is a fast read and very enjoyable. A funfilled book like this one is fun for all ages. Such a realistic fictionas this will draw you in from cover to cover.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: "there is no lake at camp green lake" Review: standley yelates has been wrongly accused of stealing some very important shoes. he was given a choice of prison or camp green lake. standley chooses the camp where he is forced to dig holes, supposedly to build character. he has to find why digging holes is so important. whats buried there? i love this book. its amazing the way everthing ties so perfectly together. i found the flash backs slightly confusing at first but you get used to them and they're as important to the story as standley is. sachar has a wonderfully simple writing style and i read the book in a day. i love it because you can read it and enjoy it without getting confused or needing a dictionary. i'd say it was for any age because my mum read it after me and she liked it just as much. i will see the film but i dont have high hopes for it topping the book. how could it?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Book review Review: Holes is a great book. I liked the way the book kept me in suspension. I read this book in my read 180 class and while i'm home i'm always thinking about what's going to Happen next. In the book there's a perfect combination between the past and the present. The past: the treasure searched by the warden parents. The present: the warden pretends to make the bad boys dig holes for a type of detention for what they did wrong, but was really making them dig for the treasure. Stanley was thrown in jail because of an act he did not commit. He met a boy name Hector Zeroni whom was the one who commited the act that stanley did not do. The two begun to find clues. When the mistery begin to unfold, the warden started to chase after them. At the end they found the treasure and Stanley and hector was free. Stanley and Hector received a sum of money. Stanley return to school. He was fat before he went to Camp Green Lake , but now he's musculous. Some people had difficulty to believe it was him. If you need a realy adventurous book, i suggest you Holes. Read the book you'll see what i'm talking about. Trust me you'll love it just like i did.
