Summary: Holes was a great book with many twists and turns.
Review: I felt Holes was a great book with many exciting twists and turns. A new adventure lies around every curve. The story is exciting and with some funny parts. It lives up to all the awards. Holes is a book well worth reading.

The book is about a boy named Stanley who is sent to a juvinile center in the middle of the desert for a crime he did not commit. He was accused of stealing a famous baseball players shoes. At the camp he meets other boys and soon discovers he has to dig a hole a day that is five feet deep and five feet wide. The warden at the camp is looking looking for something beneath the sand. What is it, and what will Stanley discover during his days at Camp Green Lake?

Summary: less imagination than I expected from prior books
Review: I saw Sachar, I thought Wayside. I knew I would be enthralled and enraptured. In truth, until now, all of Sachar's books which I have read were bound as paperbacks. This was my opportunity to sink into a lush hardcover and surround myself with Sachar insights and strange twists which would have been impossible to predict but true to life. What happened? I think I fell into a hole. I read the book in what felt like moments. I was able to foretell how the plot would unfold, and what the relationships between the characters would be. Reading the book, I experienced catharsis after catharsis as the book acknowledged and validated my every prediction. What interested me most was that this book appeared to be more of a movie script than a novel. Combine its cinematic editing with its shallow and predictable story-telling and you may have a blockbuster Sachar movie in the wings! Am I harsh? No, I'm just spoiled. I'm guessing Sachar's kids have grown up and he's now just a little too old to remember how it was to be a kid. Go back to being a yard teacher, Louis! That was a time of innocence and insight for us both. I'm nostalgic for those moments we shared.

Summary: It pulled me in just by reading the first line!!!
Review: I loved it!!!! I made the mistake of starting it rather late at night though! My teacher recomended it and so my mom bought it, and I read all in 1 night. It was sad, happy, funny, and mysterious.

Summary: A masterpiece by Sachar!
Review: This book was a masterpiece. It is a good example of tall-tale, real-life humor, fiction, reality, and friendship as Caveman tries to save Zero.

Summary: This book is guaranteed to hook reluctant readers.
Review: Holes is the kind of book that will have your students begging for more when you read it aloud. As a sixth grade teacher, it's hard to find books that both boys and girls will love to hear (and read). Holes is fast-paced and full of action. There are surprises throughout and lots of twists and connections that careful listeners get excited about putting together. The voice of this novel is incredible. This is the second school year that I've read it to my class and it's my favorite by far. When I asked this year's class if anyone had heard of it or read it, I kept my fingers crossed that no one had - I wanted to be the first to introduce it to them. One of my student's parents told me last year that because of Holes, her son finally wanted to read again. It's most appropriate for upper elementary and middle school children.
