Summary: a magical book that contains only hints of magic
Review: We bought this book based on a Amazon.com link from Harry Potter. Holes has the same sense of wonder, but without the overt use of magic. The whole family loved reading it!

Summary: It was truly a Masterpiece!
Review: Holes was a book like no other: almost as good as Harry Potter, if not, better. Holes is about a young boy named Stanley who gets sent to a Juvinial camp called Camp Green Lake. There, the boys have to dig one hole a day for an 18-month span. The book is funny, entertaining, and with each chapter, you get left with a mystery. I could not put this book down for a minute, and I would suggest it to any reading level.

Summary: My students will remember this story when they are adults.
Review: I teach middle school English, and I spend day in and day out drilling them about punctuation and the parts of speech. During the last few minutes of class, I have been reading Holes to them. The day will come these students will become parents. As they listen to their children discuss English class, my students will reply, "My teacher read us this book called Holes. It was pretty good." I doubt they will remember the rules for a dangling modifier. I believe we remember what is important.

Summary: This is a great book!
Review: Stanley Yelnats was given a choice in the story Holes. The judge said, "You may go to jail or you may go to Camp Green Lake." This pretty much says it all. Stanley was from a poor family and had never been to camp before, so he chose camp. When Stanley goes to Camp Green Lake, he discovers that every day each boy, each inmate, must dig a hole five feet wide, by five feet long and by five feet in depth. Why? I don't get why they needed to do that. Stanley makes a friend, Zero. He was nicknamed that because this is exactly what the world finds him to be. These boys take you on a real adventure which I will not tell you. They run into everything from the pig,the lullaby, the onions and even the sneakers. Holes is full of mystery, suspense, action and a lot of humor mixed in. You should read this book. Louis Sachar has a very interesting way of writing a realistic tall tale. He makes you want to find out what happens next. The ending is as exciting as the trip through the story.

Summary: Wonderful book that keeps the kids minds racing!
Review: I am a future elementary school teacher. This book is masterfully planned and keeps those antsy fifth graders interested and thinking. It's a wonderful story, and has many surprises!

Summary: excellent job done of weaving all the interrelated stories t
Review: Louis Sachar has written a wonderful book that appeals to young people from the 3rd grade through the 8th grade level. The suspense builds and actually keeps nonreaders reading until they finish this book! I'm reading it aloud to my 6th - 8th graders, and it's calmed the savage beasts. He needs to do a grammer check on certain sections, though.
