Rating: Summary: This book is good Review: I am a nine-year-old girl and I think "Holes" is a really good book. In some ways it's like life, and sometimes it makes you laugh because what you're reading could never happen. My favorite part was when Stanley and Zero were on a journey to Big Thumb Mountain. It's very hard to put this book down. My father read it in one night, and so would I, if I were a little faster. When I was reading it, instead of watching TV, I would read "Holes." Everyone I know has read "Holes," and they all loved it. I encourage you all to read this story.
Rating: Summary: Antidote for Christmas Overload Review: I started reading this book to my 9-year-old grandson two days after Christmas. His 6-year-old brother joined us, and they both abandoned Legos, Pokemon and battery-operated race cars to insist that I keep reading until the book was finished (about 9 p.m. the same day). The plot is complicated, funny and heartbreaking -- with characters that go back five generations and a setting in the Texas desert that's both believable and scary enough to entrance the most jaded kids. I loved this book and Stanley Yelnats' bravery, loyalty and developing maturity. If my grandsons hadn't been interested, I would have finished reading it to myself the same day without them. (But it was a lot more fun doing it together.)You should read Holes out loud to your kids!

Rating: Summary: It became a family affair! Review: I started reading Holes to my 7 year old son, and after only 2 nights my whole family was perched on my sons' bed eagerly listening to all the neat twists and turns of this fun book. Pretty amazing for a family with a 14 year old, a 12 year old, and a 7 year old! We have now started a new family ritual of reading together every night.....Thanks Mr. Sachar! (p.s. My husband and I got a kick out of the book too.)
Rating: Summary: Thinking "Outside the Box" Review: Holes was a book unlike any other I have read in my entire life. It delves deep into the thought processes behind juvenile detention centers and punishments given to minors as a way to correct their behavior. It also connects several different parts of the story and relies on thinking "outside the box" to catch the symbolism throughout the book. I would reccommend this book to teens that do not usually like to read because this might change their minds, but anyone can enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Even Dad liked it Review: I had to wait for my nine year old son to put "Holes" down so I could continue to read it. I stayed up late one night and finished it before him. It was great fun to watch him read through the climax wide-eyed and slack-jawed until he finally came to put the final piece of the puzzle together in a great rush of amazement. This is a great novel. The characters are nearly cartoonish, yet not quite. A great tale of children taking control of their own situations.
Rating: Summary: Grrrreat Book! Review: I found this book to be extremely delightful. It was a great read for me. I teach English to sixth graders and would recommend it to all my students. Mr. Sachar outdid himself. This is a book I will read over and over again.
Rating: Summary: Holes is extraordinary! Review: I've got two words for this incredible book: exceptional, outstanding. The ending was so funny, but was heart warming. Although it ended up kind of strange, but this book is still the most best book I've ever read. I think it still is for the rest of my life, until I find somthing else or write my own newbery medal book just like Louis Sachar. Outstanding and exceptional are not the only words, but there are also excellent, fantastic, heart-trending,dazzling and tons more! My favorite part was when Stanley and Zero were trapped with the yellow-spotted, creepy lizards. There was so much suspense, I couldn't believe they could be put into words. It was like seeing a long movie, shivering because of the action and thrill. The chill went up my back spine, it was so exciting.
Rating: Summary: Sachar Review: Looking at the cover of "Holes" it looked really boring, but once I started to read it I just could not put it down. Stanley who is the main character is accused of a crime whom he did not commit. Sent to "Camp Green Lake" Stanley has to dig a hole as deep and wide (lengthwize) as his shovel. Meeting other wierd kids the fun and adventures never stops.
Rating: Summary: Louis Scachar's a Genius! Review: Our librarian recommended that I read Holes to my 4th graders. That weekend I took it home to read because I always read a book before I read it aloud to my students. Since I am a Sachar fan, I was not surprised to find that I absolutely loved it! The surprising thing was that my students loved it just as much. Once I got into the story, they would hardly let me stop reading. The day we finished the book, I read aloud the whole reading period. My students applauded at the end. We couldn't stop talking about the way Louis Sachar tied all the characters and their stories together. We declared then and there, and still agree, that Louis Sachar is an absolute genius. When we discuss other books and authors, we always say, "That book's terrific, but it's not Holes!" or, "That author is great, but he's no Louis Sachar!" If we could, we would rate it more than 5 stars!
