This book was written by Louis sachar, and it is one of the best books I have read all year. It was very interesting and exciting. This book is about a juvenile detention center called Camp green Lake. This camp is for boys who have done bad things. The boys have been given a choice between going to jail or Camp Green Lake. Of course, the boys choose Camp Green Lake because they think it must be a wonderful place, but it's actually a very rotten place. When the boys get there, they have to dig a hole every single day until they are realeased. The holes must be 5 feet long and 5 feet deep. They start digging before the sun comes up and they try to finish the holes before the afternoon because that's the hottest part of the day. The story is centered around a boy named Stanley Yelnats, who chose Camp green Lake over jail. He chose the camp because he thought it sounded like a fun place and he thought there would be a lake to swim in, but he was wrong. There wasn't any lake at Camp Green Lake, just a bounch of dirt where the lake used to be. When Stanley got there and saw this place he blamed it on his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather", like he always did when something went wrong. The book is really telling two stories; one about Stanley and the other about his ancestors. The stories tell of the connection between the past and Stanley's present. Stanley becomes friends with Zero, a young boy who is also at Camp Green Lake, while teaching him how to read and they decide to run away. There is no security at Camp Green Lake because there's not a town around for at least 100 miles and a person would die soon without water. While Stanley and Zero are hiding they find an onion field on a mountain and they stay up there for a while. They dig and find water about 5 feet underground. They eat the onions and drink the water to stay alive. While they are on the mountain they share stories about why they are at the camp. Stanley finds out that Zero did the theft of which Stanley was convicted. This is my favorite book so far this year because it tells you that things work out for the best 99.9% of the time. This is a very important lesson for me and a lot of other people. I would definitely recommend this book to another student and maybe even another adult (my mom read it!) This book keeps you reading and after you finish it you want to read it again. If you are looking for a wonderful and entertaining book, read Holes by Louis Sachar.

I have read aloud another Louis Sachar book titled, "There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom" and my students thought it was hilarious. I read "Holes" over the summer myself and could not put the book down. I know my students will enjoy all the twists, turns, and the ironies that happen in the book. Make sure that you are paying close attention! You will not want to miss anything! I cannot wait to share this with my students tomorrow. I highly recommend this to teachers and kids alike. Happy reading!

It tells the story of a boy who was convicted of a crime that he didn't do and sent to a detention camp. It also tells of a bad luck curse that's on the family because of a great-great-pig-stealing-grandpa. Read and find out what else happens in this excellent book.

He had a choice to either go to Camp Green Lake or go to jail. He picked the camp. When he got to Camp Green Lake, he realized it was nothing what he pictured. There's no lake: it's a desert! Stanley realizes this is his worst nightmare. The next day he is introduced to his job, digging a hole. Every day each child has to dig a hole 5ft deep and 5ft wide. While Stanley was digging on of his holes, he found a tube with KB engraved on the bottom. After that, they had to dig for days, looking for the rest of the treasure that went with the tube. There is a major problem while digging for the treasure. You will have to read on to find out what happens. I would recommend this book to anyone. I think boys and girls of all ages would enjoy it. "Holes" is one of those books that you have to force yourself to put down. There is a great plot and good details. It also ties in other little stories relevant to the main one to make the book more interesting. As I said before, I know many people who have enjoyed this book and I am very glad that I got to be one of those people.

The novel is written like a jigsaw puzzle. It is like a jigsaw puzzle because all the stories fit together. The story begins by talking about the main character, Stanley. Later a story is told about his great-great-grandfather and how he was supposed to have carried a woman up a hill but he didn't. The woman cursed because he forgot. Later on in the story Stanley meets a kid named, Hester Zeroni, mean while the reader knows that the woman, his great-great-grandfather was suppose to carry up the hill, is Madame Zeroni. These two facts fit together like puzzle pieces because these two people are related. I also liked it because it is written in first person. First person helped to show Stanley's true emotions. This also helps him to talk about his experiences first hand. Overall this book was excellent.

I'm currently an elementary education major and I am DEFINITELY getting this book for my classroom library. It had action, adventure, and the way everything just came together at the end was the absolute BEST! I loved Sachar's flavor, "You will have to fill in the holes yourself" in the last chapter. It was genius. I loved it and I'm going to recommend it to everyone, young or old, I know! What a wonderful experience!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Moving and Eye-opening Review: Holes is an amazing book about friendship and loyality. It also explains crime from a child's point of view. This book is one of my all time favorites next to Roald Dahl books and Harry Potter! I would recommend this book to anyone who would be interested in reading a funny, detailed, and fulfilling book. I fell that having two stories in a book is a great way to keep kids interest. I loved this book and will recommend it to all of my friends and I hope many others will too.
