Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Story Review: Stanley Yelnats ends up in Camp Green Lake, a camp for "bad boys", after a misunderstanding. The "camp" is set on a piece of land that used to be "the biggest lake in Texas!". But that's hard to believe when Stanley ends up digging holes all over the dried up lake to "improve his character". Stanley blames all his bad luck to his "no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather!". Stanley tells of the Yelnats' long history of "rotten luck" in the book, but in the end is saved by one of these legends. This story is great. The way the plots were interwoven was amazing and made it all the more interesting. The more overlapping that appeared in the book, the more I wanted to read. You should DEFINATLY check out this book!
Rating: Summary: Strange, But very good Review: Holes is a really good book, but takes a long time to get in to. It has a very strange storyline but is a great read and very rewarding
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I liked Stanley Yelnats and how Loius Sachar weaves past andfuture in the book. I like when he and Zero run for it and find driedpeaches at the top of the mountain with a finger pointing to the sky. I liked it when lizards(dangerous ones) our on Stanley because of the treasure. Very good book.
Rating: Summary: A Must - Read For Book Groups Review: This is a must read for anyone, especially book groups. There are many hidden secerets and confusing little tid bits that you might not understand unless you talk about it with someone else who has read it too. This is a great book to read on a rainy day when you have nothing to do because you probably won't want to put it down!
Rating: Summary: A great book, desrving of the newbery award Review: There's something about the books that win newbery awards; with a few exceptions, they are filled with complicated, interwoven plots, contain lessons to be learned, and provide a thoroughly enjoyable read. Only occassionally have I been dissapointed. When I started to read Holes, at first I though it would end up as a dissapointment because it starts off so slowly, but soon it became woven into a beautiful story about wrongdoing, punishment, and redemption. The writing has a humorous, flippant tone that would fail miserably with any other story, but goes perfectly the story in Holes, which requires what my vth grade English teacher called "willful suspention of disbelief. In a way it reminds me of the Twilight Zone. It's not realistic, but what it says is important for all of us.

Rating: Summary: Holes better then just a depression Review: While patently waiting for the new Harry Potter to come out I was recommended this book. At first I wasn't thrilled with it, it seemed to move a bit slowly (hence the 4 star rating) but once I got into it, I was completely enthralled. The book does an excellent job of telling a moral tale without hitting you over the head with the moral I'm a 25 year old woman with no children and I enjoyed it, I think this book transends age and tells and excellent story Buy it, read it!
Rating: Summary: A Must-Read for Anyone! Review: Much like the Harry Potter series, Holes has a plot that fits together like a puzzle, and the reader must place the pieces. With this book, one must look at every bit of detail to fully enjoy the story. What really interests me is that Holes is not just one story, but two stories. One is a legend that sets the scene for the book, and the other is what is happening at the present. Even more interesting, is that Louis Sachar has managed to intertwine the two stories, and giving out certain bits of information to the reader at the appropriate times. Even though the book is intended for ages nine to twelve, I would reccomend this book to just about anyone that can read, and has a good sense of logic.
