Summary: Great "outloud" reading
Review: After my sons, ages 10 and 12, wrestled to see who got to read this book for the second time, I finally got my hands on it. What a wonderfully told story! My youngest son read it outloud to us after that, and I enjoyed it even more that way. Don't hesitate. Some aspects of the story are mature (socially realistic, not obsene), which makes for great family discussions.

Summary: ED306 Book Review Assignment
Review: This is a Great book. This is a story about the many struggles of growing up- about real life. This is a story of the realities of poverty, prejudice, and greed. This is a story of children that have fallen beneath the cracks- forgotten. This is a story of lost love, mystery and murder. This is a story of perseverance- self-confidence, pride, character, justice, second chances and maybe even fate. I believe that the holes were a way for the author to teach us that life is sometimes just that- full of holes. We meet people everyday, we pass by people and never know what happens to them or if they are happy or sad, have a family, have someone to love and care for them. We also- as individuals make many decisions either conscious or unconscious and these decisions all somehow effect history or the future of others- Just as Stanley Yelnats was made late to catch his bus- he had to walk home- If he wasn't picked on and he didn't have to go digging for his notebook- He wouldn't have been struck by the stolen tennis shoes. The author has a way of making you feel a part of the book- Sachar's words pull you in. You feel the thirst- You feel the frustration and pain of digging- You feel the pain of being picked on in school- You feel the sorrow of losing something- and you feel the joy of a long awaited homecoming.-Nicole McMichael

Summary: Borrowed my daughter's book-and LOVED it!
Review: I borrowed this book from my daughter (after she finished it, of course)! She took this book home from school one day, and was really hesitant to read it, she said it sounded "boring, why would I want to read about holes", etc... (Typical 10-year old). She loves to read, so I didn't understand why she made this fuss about it. Well, she read it in one sitting-she LOVED it! She could not put it down. She told me I should read it- Well, you know how adults can't usually stand to read kids books! I picked it up one night and started reading it, and I couldn't put it down, either. It's a GREAT book! Adventurous, humorous, scary at times, really just fascinating reading. I highly recommend this book to any kid over the age of about 9. It could be kind of scary to some sensitive kids, though, so there's your warning. This is one of the Best kids books I have ever read. (I wish it was around when I was that age)! Buy this book-you will not regret it.

Summary: Great Overall
Review: Holes was an excellent book about a boy named Stanely Yelnats and how he is mistaken for doing a crime he didn't commit. In "Holes" it tells how he is punished for this crime. This book can be enjoyed by a boy or girl but in different perspectives. Girls would like because it is about how naughty little boys are punished. Boys would like it because of all the adventure and creepy parts that pop up suddenly. I would have given "Holes" 5 stars except there are a few parts that are just too violent and gross for me. But besides that it was a great book.

Summary: Very thrilling and addictive
Review: This book written by Louis Sachar is a different type of book that really puts you inside the plot. Once you start this book, it's hard to put it down! You can connect to Stanley Yelnats, and what his character is going through. You won't be dissapointed by buying this book.

Summary: A Great Book
Review: Holes maybe the best book i've ever read. Stanley Yelnats is injustly sent to a boys detention center in the middle of the desert of Texas where you have to dig a hole five feet deep and wide each day. If you find something that is good, you get the rest of the day off. When Zero leaves the detention center Stanley goes after him and they eventually the the remains of the Mary Lou which crashed 110 years earlier and they also find...

Summary: Great!
Review: I am a person who likes to read action and mysteries. At first when I saw the book I was thinking who wants to read about some holes? But that's not what this breath taking book is all about. It's about a boy who has to go to a camp. They ahve to go to the camp if you gotten in trouble or something. But they have to dig deep hole as deep as the shovel and as wide as the shovel. They have to take fast showers or else the water turns off. And worst of all, the camp is in the middle of nowhere. I'm not going to tell you any more than what I have. Because I would loose control and end up ruining it. I really highly recomend this book to anyone who likes to be able to sit down start to read and not want to put the book down. So really this book is for any one. Who likes to read of course. Thanks.

Summary: Do you want kids on the edge of their seats?
Review: I read this book aloud to my class of 4th and 5th graders this past year. We would read it after lunch recess, and they loved it. Probably the best thing for me was to hear the whole class beg me to keep reading once time was up. Many of my reluctant readers (especially some boys who "hated to read") wanted to check this book out. I highly recommend it!
