Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: I actually COULD NOT put it down! Review: The book Holes, by Louis Sachar is an awesome book. It was a real page-turner and I just could not seem to put it down! It is a non-fictional book about an unlucky and disobedient teenager named Stanley Yelnats. Stanley is mistaken for doing a crime that he did not commit. Stanley's punishment is that he has to go to a juvenile camp for the whole summer in the middle of the desert in Texas. Everyday at the camp, Stanley and all of the other boys have to dig one hole five feet deep and five feet wide in an old, dried up lakebed. It is extremely hard to work there in the blistering hot sun, and the boys rarely ever get water breaks. If Stanley or any of the other boys find any treasures in the hole while they are digging, then they have to immediately give it to the Warden, and then they get the rest of the day off. Stanley and his new friend, Zero cannot take it anymore, so they make a run for it (forgetting that they were in the middle of nowhere, with no food or water). They both struggle to stay alive. This story is about and has to do with self-confidence, pride, justice and second chances. The author, Louis Sachar, has a way of making you feel that you are in the story. He also has a way of making you feel and experience all of the emotions and experiences that Stanley has to go through. I recommend this book to anyone who just needs a good book that keeps him or her focused, interested and entertained. I usually cannot get into a book unless it is fabulous, and Holes is just that.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes A GREAT Book for Everyone Review: Holes was an absolute thriller, from the day he was titled to Camp Green Lake to the day he is on the commercial. In the beginning Stanley Yelnats was unrightfully accused of stealing shoes that he thought fell out of the sky. The judge said, "You can either go to Juvanile Hall or go to Camp Green Lake where you will have to dig one hole a day." Stanley being in a poor family and never went to camp decided to go to Camp Green Lake. When he gets their he is soon challenged the next morning by digging a whole 5 by 5 feet. He soon makes an escape and goes to a mountain that smells fresh of onions. Late at night he leaves the mountain top and goes to the camp to find the treasure of Kissing Kate. He and his friend find the treasure but the Warden finds that they are their... And soon after that they find that Stanley and Zero (his friend) stepped in a nest of Yellow Spotted Lizards. I liked this book because it had many exciting parts which you could pretty much feel. Like when the yellow spotted lizard was on Stanley's neck. It's claws on it staying on. You could also feel how releived he was when they left because they were in the sun light. Then the Warden tries to get the treasure but Zero wouldn't let her because it had Stanley's name on it. In the end Stanley is in a commercial.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: Stanley, a young boy who is wrongly accused of stealing, is given a choice of going to jail or attending Camp Green Lake, a camp that straightens out troubled children and 'builds character'. Stanley and his family decide that Camp Green Lake would be better than jail; this decision would change his life. The book HOLES is a well-written fiction by Louis Sacher. The story describes one boy's experience at Camp Green Lake. Stanley, the story's protagonist, faces many challenges during his sentence. After initially becoming friends with the other boys, Stanley ultimately befriends Zero, the group 'outcast'. Stanley teaches Zero to read in exchange for Zero helping Stanley complete his difficult camp task of digging one large hole every day. The other boys, angered by the fact that Zero does Stanley's work, turn on the two. Zero tires of the abuse from the other boys and runs away from the camp. Stanley realizes there is only one thing he can do and sets out to find his friend. Stanley finds him in bad condition, but alive. When Zero refuses to return to camp, Stanley starts to lose hope. He is inspired by "Big Thumb," a mountain shaped like the thumbs-up sign, the same "Thumb" that gave his great-grandfather hope over a hundred years ago. Stanley and Zero decide to try to get to the top, but after many near-death experiences they decide to go secretly back to camp in search of a treasure that was supposed to be buried there. They make it back to the camp, get caught, but are finally rescued by Stanley's lawyer and reunited with their parents. I strongly recommend this book. Stanley faces many conflicts: Stanley vs. The authorities at camp, Stanley and Zero vs. the mountain, and most importantly, Stanley vs. himself and his abilities. From the story we learn, along with Stanley, not to give up and not to lose hope, which was also the theme of the book. All these factors made for an interesting story and a great book.

Well 13 year old Stanley Yelnats is probably the most unlucky boy in the world,he is an overweight, poor, social outcast and he can blame it all on his "no good-dirty-wrotten- pig- stealing -great- great- grandfather" who broke a promise to a one legged gypsy, and therefore doomed his family to a lifetime of misfortune. Stanley continues this streak of misfortune when he is sent to Camp Green Lake, a camp for juvenille delinquents located in Texas, for a crime that he did not commit. At Camp Green Lake the boys are forced to dig holes 5 feet from every angle, every day in the blazing hot sun. The purpose for these holes is to "build character", but Stanley begins to realize that there is a more important reason for these holes, someone is looking for something and Stanley is determined to find out what. At Camp Green Lake Stanley makes friends with an illiterate but extremley intelligent orphan named Zero. Together they will uncover the secret behind the holes, Camp Green Lake and maybe even change Stanley and Zero's luck forever. I really enjoyed reading this entertaining book because it kept me in constant suspense, and really allowed me to enjoy the characters I was reading about. I would reccomend this book to people of all ages because depending on age this story will be able to provide different levels of understanding, but there is no denying that everyone will enjoy and understand the great story.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A fun book! Review: A great read! "Holes", by Louis Sachar is a must. In this story, Stanley Yelnats is sent to a boy's correctional facility, Camp Green Lake for the crime of stealing shoes, which he did not do. Stanley and his family have blamed all of their bad luck on their no-good-pig-stealing- grandfather, who took a pig from a one-legged Gypsy, and she supposedly cursed him. This camp is not like any other camp. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake (it has been dry for 100 years) and the whole day the campers' work on digging holes in the dried up lakebed. The owner of this camp says this is to build character, but she is really just using the kids to find the money that Kissin' Kate Barlow buried when she lived there. This story tells more than what happens at camp, it tells the history of Camp Green Lake before it dried up. This was a great book, and I really like the way Louis Sachar really explains what was happening then, and what's happening now at Camp Green Lake. This is a very inventive book, and is a great story relating to friendship. As a humorous tale, this will be on everyone's favorite list.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A truly wonderful story! by Shane T. Review: "Holes" is yet another wonderfully written work of fiction by Louis Sachar. This modern tale of fate is set in and around a juvenile detention camp in the Texas wasteland. Stanley Yelnats III is sent there for the theft of a famous baseball player's shoes- even though he is really innocent. Stanley blames his no-good great-grandfather, Stanley Yelnats I, for his constant bad luck. When Stanley's great-grandfather did not keep his word, a curse was put on his family by a psychic named Madame Zeroni. This curse can oly be lifted if Stanley or one of his relatives finds and befriends one of Madame Zeroni's family members. Stanley had never been to a camp before, so his parents tried to convince him that it would be fun. But when Stanley arrived, it wasn't exactly what he had in mind. One had to be careful of snakes, scorpions, and of course, deadly yellow-spotted lizards. Every kid had an odd nickname, and Stanley was given the name "Caveman". Stanley becomes particularly good friendswith a strange boy known only as "Zero". The camp warden requires that every day, each kid has to dig a hole five feet wide and five feet deep. If anything unusual is found, it must immediately be reported to her. The reason she give for digging the holes is that "it builds good character," but Stanley can't help but think that the Warden is lookinf for something... This book shows how one can make the best of a bad situation and how things can come together in the end. I recommend this book to anybody interested in a truly suspenseful story, where the "dig" for clues is engaging and fun.

He is given two options, either to go to prison or to go to camp. As anyone would, he chose the camp. However, when he arrives at camp green lake he finds it is no ordinary camp. But why? Soon Stanley begins to suspect that there are more devious reasons for the digging than what they are told.
