Summary: Holes
Review: This is by far one of the best books that I have ever read. If you like exciting books with just a little bit of mystery you'll love this book. This book is about a boy who is accused of a crime. He's sent to a camp where he'll have to dig holes that are five feet deep and five feet wide in what used to be a lake. But what he doesn't know is he's digging not only for punishment but for something else. To find out what that is you'll have to read the book.

Review: This is Louis Sachar at his best. A five star book for sure, it kept me up all night. It is written well, with fascinating characters and a great action plot.

Summary: This book will blow you away!
Review: When I started reading this book I didn't think it would be good. But than it just opened up to me. I couldn't put it down. I'd be getting my clarinet ready when it just pulled me over and I finished the book! It was amazing how it just took over my mind. I'd get home, do my homwork and (this is not very common) I'd READ! This book is amazing!

Summary: A Camp Full of Holes
Review: This wonderful story, everybody has been talking about, is about a boy names Stanley, who is stuck in a juvenile delinquent camp with some "friends" he has made and is trying to escape because of the way his counselors treat him. This book's name is Holes and is by Louis Scacher. It's about a boy named Stanley who is part of a "bad-luck" family. Stanley is has been accused of stealing from a famous baseball player. When he goes to court- he has two choices of what to do, either go to jail or go to a juvenile delinquent camp called "Camp Green Lake." The problem is, the camp is in the middle of no where. There used to be a lake there, and if you tried to run away you would have to walk 100 miles to the next place that has water. It was his dream to go to a happy, joyful camp. But, his family couldn't afford it. What he really went to is a very hard-working camp. The head of the camp, Mr. Sir, gives Stanley a lecture on what to do at this camp and how to behave. Every day, each boy has to dig a hole- (~5 by 6 feet.) When they were done they could take there two minute shower and lug around in the tent. This book tells of the adventures and attempts of Stanley's get-always of the camp. This book is full of creativity and fun. For example- the names of the campers are nicknames that they gave each other, such as, "Zero", "Caveman", and "X-Ray." This book is easy to understand and great imagining. It is full of creativity, with the plot of the story. Could you have ever come up with such a wild plot like that? A reason someone might not want to read this book is that it's a little confusing and strange. There are two stories going on at once and the book switches off from one to the other. One story is about how Stanley's family turning "bad-luck" and the other is how Stanley survives this horrible camp. At the end they both link together, like a puzzle. Some people might not like this book because, the beginning is a little slow- going and "weird." The book goes by day. Some people I know are reading this book and think it's a little weird. But, as you get into the book it will make more sense. I was younger when I read this book and maybe that's a reason I appreciated this book. Louis Scacher writes extremely unique books and maybe older people won't like them as much as I did. But, this book is great for imagination and I really recommend it. I think if you really try to read this book and pay attention to it will all come together at the end. My mom has just finished reading this book and I remember her asking me, "Why am I reading this book? It's so . . . weird." At the end of the book she said it was very clever and loved it. I can't believe how much fun this book was, also, funny. My dad, sister and I were all reading it at the same time and were fighting over who got to read it at that time. We could never put the book down.

Summary: Not Too Shabby (at all)
Review: If you have been told Holes is an awful book (which I'm sure you haven't) erase that from your mind because it isn't true. Holes is a five star book. Holes, a national book award winner, is one of my all time favorite books, and it is written by one of my favorite authors, Louis Sachar (he's also written Sideways Stories From Wayside School, There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, The Boy Who Lost His Face, Dogs Don't Tell Jokes etc.). This book is set in Texas and takes place at Camp Green Lake. If you think that sounds like a happy place you are defiantly wrong. Camp Green Lake isn't one of those summer camps you send you're kids to, it's a lakeless boot camp where Stanley Yelnats (main character or protagonist) is sent with a court charge of theft. And instead of jail Stanley decides to take the long and extended ride to Camp Green Lake. Each day each boy at camp digs a hole 5 feet deep and 5 feet wide in the hot desert sun. Stanley and the other boys at Camp Green Lake (Armpit, Magnet etc.) do receive water but only when Mr. Sir (armed guard) brings it to them. Otherwise the closest water supply is 100 miles away. Holes has many doors the reader must open. It is being recommended because is it is an adventurous story with many surprises. The warden (head of the camp) is an "old family friend" and Stanley is about to figure that out the hard way. Holes is also being recommended because it is so creative and stimulating. For example, Armpit, Magnet and Zero aren't names I hear everyday. I can only think of one flaw Holes has. It should be a little bit more descriptive. But even though some parts aren't as descriptive as others one's imagination runs wild descriptive or not. Another reason why I like this book is it is a drama, comedy and mystery all in one. Harry Potter books watch out because the mystery is yet to come.

Summary: Digging Up A Good Book
Review: This book, Holes was adventurous; it really captures your mind. Louis Sachar who wrote this book came up with a title that describes practically the whole book, Holes. This book is about a boy who gets sent to boot camp because he was framed. All they have to do all day is dig a hole 5ft deep and 5ft wide. Also it is about his heritage, meeting new types of people, and learning that life is not always perfect. This book has many great qualities. It has a wonderful plot and it is an extremely fun book to read. I think it has a wonderful plot because everything connects and makes sense, so you don't have to go back in the book to see what they are talking about. I think it was a fun book to read because there is many action parts and many explanations of things. It is a suspenseful book, which keeps you wanting to read on. Many people I know who have read this book have enjoyed it. Some people might think that this book is boring and may not have enough action. One might think this because it is sort of slow in the beginning; but it picks up momentum as you read on. This book I don't think is appropriate for all ages because little kids might mistake it for child abuse, when older people will understand that it is just a book and understand what the book is actually talking about. This book is adventurous and really captures your mind. I would recommend this book to anyone older then the age of nine years old. This book is not only fun, but also has a good lesson. I won't tell you what the lesson is about because that is your job.

Summary: Holes
Review: This book was quite unusual. It was weird but not too weird the plot was imaginitive and inventive. The book is an intricate jigsaw puzzle which keeps you guessing untill the end. Stanley Yelnats is unjustly sent to Camp Green Lake boy's detention center. There is no lake, and nothing is green except for two giant oak trees, between which is stretched a hammock the hammock. The hammock belongs to the Camp Warden, and nobody can lie in it but her .The Camp Warden makes everybody dig one hole five feet deep and five foot wide everyday. After a while it becomes clear to Stanley that she isn't just trying to build character, but that she is looking for something. But what could be buried in the middle of the desert? I highly reccomend this book.

Summary: Great Book for All Ages
Review: Holes was sent to me by a friend who is student teaching a 10th grade English class. I was a little skeptical at first of reading a children's book and getting something out of it. I couldn't have been more wrong. It's absolutely fabulous. It's the story of a boy who is wrongly accused of a crime and is sent to Camp Green Lake, a correctional camp for boys. Every day they are assigned to dig holes, to "build character". During his time at Camp Green Lake, Stanley realizes and reevaluates what he must do, and who he must be loyal to in order to survive amongst his peers. Holes can be described as a modern day fable, that gives an underlying message of "What goes around comes around." The writing is fantastic! Read it for yourself, and share it with your children.
