Summary: HOLES : A wonderful, timelessly told book.
Review: HOLES, written by the legendary author Louis Sachar, tells the story of a young misjudged boy , Stanley Yelnats, who is sent away to a juvenile detainment camp where bad kids are forced to dig holes every day -- where discipline rules with an iron fist, and water is precious and given rarely . The kids Stanley meets there are in every way different from the next, and as Stanley becomes more accustomed to the camp's strange, unknown reason as to why they must dig holes -- he begins to understand the kids -- and see that each one is in the camp for reasons he could never be. But he won't stop at one thing -- the mysterious reason of digging the holes. The clues lead to more answers, and as Stanley digs deeper to the truth, he makes a friend -- and a discovery -- that dreams could only level with. In this powerful novel that is rich in written expression and in storyline, the characters touch the heart and the reader will not want to put the book down. HOLES is one of my favorite novels of all time ; it is deserving, and it is a mesmerizing feat in literature that will never disappoint.

Summary: Lisa Bright and Dark
Review: The book I read was Lisa Bright and Dark.It was a great book.It was one of my favorites that I have read so far.It is about a girl that is sixteen and her name is Lisa Shilling. She thinks that she is going crazy but her parents don't believe her.And the only people that listen to her are her friends. The best thing about the book is that if you read the back you think oh she has a great life but if you read it somethings shock you. That is why I liked this book so much.It really makes you think like when it says M.N. you have to remember what they are talking about. I really liked this book and I recomend this book to anyone.

Summary: My review for Holes
Review: The book "Holes" is one of the best books I've ever read. The author is Louis Sachar. The book is about a boy, Stanley Yelnats, who goes to prison camp and runs away to find a friend that he met there. The camp is in a desert in Texas and the boys there have to dig a hole every day that is 5 ft. wide and long. I like this book because you never know whats going to happen next. Another thing is that the book is like a web then it all meets together at the end. I definity recommend this book to anybody, any age.

He's a good kid but his luck makes him a bad kid.One day out of nowhere shoes come falling through the sky.He takes them and later gets arrested for stealing a famous ball player's shoes. He has a choice to go to jail or anyones worst nightmare Camp Green Lake. How was he soppose to know he picked a bad choice? When Stanley finally arrives at Camp Green Lake he finds out what a nightmare's like.Digging holes five feet wide and five feet long. After this it starts to get exciting! You probably have an idea of how popular it is from my point of view it's perfect. But also it teaches you a lesson like anything can happen when Stanley reaches terrible fates. For exaple, when he thinks nothing is going right he goes on a mountain called God's Thumb and finds onions and some water. Believe me thats important in this story. This is a book I recomend!

Summary: Wow.
Review: I thought this was a really thought-provoking book. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it could have been a little more descriptive, and at some points, the plot fell together just a little too neatly.

Otherwise, though, it's very interesting. Stanley Yelnats must go to a detention camp to serve a punishment for a crime he didn't commit. He must endure the idiosyncracies of his fellow "campers" and wardens in order that he may survive. But most importantly (in my humble opinion) he forges a friendship with "Zero," a camper who has never been or done anything worthy or useful - at least to ordinary observers.

This is a beautiful tale of human frailty, prejudice, friendship, trust and of promises broken and redeemed. Definitely worth a read, no matter what your age (I am 23).

Summary: Not as good or as bad as people say
Review: Holes is basically a modern day fairy tale. The story consists of two parts. One is basically the fairly realistic story of a boy confined to a correctional facility. The other is a seeming folktale from the ages. Sachar must be given his due for cleverly interweaving the two and bringing even the littlest story details full circle. The book is easy to read and the plot should appeal to younger adolescent readers. On the other hand, there was no great epiphany during reading. Given the situation of the protagonist, I expected a lot more introspection and learning to take place. I am somewhat biased in that I just finished reading Chris Crutcher's "Ironman" which is a powerful and significant work for male teens. Perhaps the comparison is unfair. I just think this book should have been more weighty to receive all the acclaim it has enjoyed.

Summary: It's time to fill in the Holes!
Review: I bought this book for my 11 year old cousin. His whole family read it and loved it. When he asked me if I wanted to borrow it, I took it from him eagerly. I read it through quickly in one sitting. It was just such and absorbing story. Sachar is an amazing story teller. The way he was able to weave tale among tale together so tightly was unbelievable. Reading this book reminded me of sitting with my grandfather at the breakfast table as he interwove tales of our family history with those of his days in the army.

Piecing together the different elements of the story was fun. I'm sure children would enjoy trying to figure everything out just as much as I did.

I thought the friendship between Stanley and Zero was very touching. It made me feel all warm inside knowing that Stanley was not angry when he learned the 'truth' and was in fact thankful. He was happy for his experiences at Camp Green Lake. He was happy for making his first true friend.

This book proves that it IS lucky to have a palindrome name!

Summary: AMAZING
Review: I just finished Holes and I am absolutely amazed...who ever thought that a book seemingly about boys who dig holes all day long could be such a page turner! The way Sachar ties every detail in the book together is absolute genious. I am simply in awe of this book!
