He thinks it is all of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great grandfather's fault for him getting in trouble. Stanley has been sent to a camp for trouble making boys called Camp Green Lake. There isn't a lake at Camp Green Lake, but the boys dig holes in the hot weather five feet deep by five feet wide day after day. If they didn't finish their hole during the day then they had to finish it at night. Stanley realizes there is more than just digging holes; he thinks the warden is looking for something, "But what?"

Well if you think of fun and exciting things at Camp Green Lake guess what? It is the complete opposite. This book is very interesting because a teenager named Stanley Yelnats is accused of stealing an old pair of shoes, and got penalized for 18 months at Camp Green Lake. How important are the shoes? Since Stanley was penalized for stealing, he has to dig holes 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep, can he take the heat of the sun? Can he survive the yellow-spotted lizards? Some kids are at Camp Green Lake for so long they call Mr. Pedanski "mom". If one of the kids finds something interesting they will get the day off and two showers. If you read this book you will read about interesting things. Why are the kids digging the holes? Read and you will find out.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: I gave this book four stars because it was a good book. When I was at St. Ambrose, Mrs. Clark, our English teacher was reading it to us. I think the book is pretty funny but good at the same time. It has an imaginative plotting and memorable characters. I would remember their names because they have weird names. It was funny too. Because the names were weird the characters were silly and funny. I would recommend this book to fifth graders and up with a good sense of humor. It has hard words that they can understand.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Trash Review: I cannot believe this trash is marketed to 9 to 12 year olds. To let my 81/2 year old read about lynchings and teachers shooting sheriffs in the head is a bit much for his young mind. Once again the only heroes in the story are either women or black men. All the bad, lazy, drunken, no-good characters are white males - like my son.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: I really liked this book. It was about a boy named Stanley who was given a choice to go to Camp Green Lake or jail. He chose camp, not knowing what he was getting into. When he got there, there was no lake and it certainly wasn't green. Stanley had to dig a hole every day to "build character", but there is another reason why he was digging holes. What was the reason? You'll have to read it to find out. Stanley makes friends at the camp. Stanley goes through many challenges and has to make many hard decisions. I think this was an awesome book and I recommend it to grades seven and up.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: holes Review: Holes, March 15,2001 Reviewer:keith,Chris,Justin Holes is a really interesting and exciting book to read. It makes you really want to keep reading, like you can't put down the book. This book is about a kid named Stanley Yelnats, who is picked on a lot at school because of his weight. One day he was accused of stealing Clyde Livingston's, a professional baseball player's, shoes. He had a choice to either go to jail or Camp Green Lake. Stanley chose Camp Green Lake. He has a hard time at first with making friends. When he is at camp he is in some life or death situations. He finds out who is true friends are, and he has to try to save one of them. By the end of the book he gains confidence and goes through some changes in his life. I recommend this book for 7th and 8th grade students. Also this book is a very adventurous kind of story. It was so good it won a Newbery Medal.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review Review: I really liked Holes because it was a book that always keeps you waiting, wanting to find out how the situation is going to turn out in the end. I think the part that I liked the most was when Stanley and Zero are practically pushing up daisies when they find Onion Sam's secret onion patch. When this happens you realize how everything in the story that you have already read is falling into place. When you are reading you think to yourself, "Hey that sounds familiar" and then you remember that Onion Sam had a secret onion field that no one knew where it was. Then you're thinking about the story and you're wondering how something that was around 110 years ago that helped people then is able to help people now. This is why I liked Holes so much because it really makes you think and the story is so good that you would probably have a couple different answers when you're thinking about what's going to happen next.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Holes Review: Holes is a very adventurous novel. This novel deals with several juvenile delinquents. The main idea of this novel is that a boy named Stanley is accused of stealing a pair of shoes that belonged to Clyde Livingston, a very famous baseball player. Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake to dig holes as a punishment. This would, supposedly, teach him a lesson. After a few months he was proven innocent just like he said. In this period of time, Stanley lost a lot of weight. He also made a friend named Hector (Zero). Zero was being teased so much that he ran away. Will Stanley go after him? To find out the rest read "Holes" by Louis Sachar.
